I don't think I've ever quite agreed with you this much before. I honestly don't understand how Hereafter got a nod over Tron, that baffles me. And Scott Pilgrim didn't get a nod because it's a movie about young people, the internet, and video games. Basically three things that make the voters of the academy's mothballs get in a tizzy. Same reason that they don't acknowledge anime as worthy artwork.
Hey my aunt and uncle are on the academy, and they aren't old farts. My uncle loves technology, and my cousin even convinced him to try minecraft (though he didn't really like it). Actually I'm wrong, they're on some larger group that's part of the academy, but it's not actually the main group of 100 or so people.
I honestly hope that The Social Nework doesn't win the best film of the year award.... i don't think it has enough substance: it's more like a simple documentary, nothing exeptionally good. I hope for Inception.
I can't believe Tron: Legacy wasn't even nominated for Best Achievement in Visual Effects, they were absolutely mind blowing.
IMO tron was really eyestraining and wasn't exactly amazing visually.
TRON and Scott Pilgrim were both in the second round of voting, but lost.
Nolan not getting best director nomination, SSSSSSSSSSNNNNNNNNNNNNUUUUUUUUUUBBBBBBBBB!!!!!!!
You kidding me? Leo didn't get nominated for anything?! :suicide:
i like trent reznor but fuck sake i mean HANS ZIMMER better win for that
I'm just making a guess. The Social Network won the Oscar for best score over Inception, that was my basis for the guess. I do really prefer the Inception soundtrack.
Ha! This is an interesting point of view.
If you look at the world from a Hero Complex view — through X-ray specs — here’s how the Oscar nominations in the marquee categories of the 83rd Academy Awards look: The supporting actor category puts in competition Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) and Batman (Christian Bale) — two heroes of the upcoming Avengers film — Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), and the guy that looked like John Lennon (John Hawkes) on “Lost.” In the best actor category, it’s the Green Goblin’s son (James Franco) vs. Kevin Flynn from “Tron” (Jeff Bridges). In the best actress category it’s a Queen Amidala from the Jedi universe (Natalie Portman, who is also Jane Foster in the upcoming “Thor” and played Evey from “V for Vendetta“) up against Mrs. Coulter from “The Golden Compass” (Nicole Kidman), which doesn’t seem like much of a contest. In the best supporting actress category it’s Bellatrix Lestrange from the ”Harry Potter” films, the Red Queen from “Alice in Wonderland,” the weird lady from “Terminator Salvation” and the Corpse Bride from “The Corpse Bride.” And that’s all one person: Helena Bonham Carter. So there are four other nominees but, you know, not really. Gotham City will loom large on Oscar night. Bale might be the odds-on favorite to win the best supporting actor category for his compelling portrait of a crack-fiend boxer in “The Fighter” (a movie that was also nominated for best picture) but his Bat-film auteur, Christopher Nolan, probably had mixed feelings — Nolan didn’t hear his name called out in the best director category for “Inception“ but he was nominated for best screenplay (as he was for his breakthrough film, “Memento“) and with “Inception’s” best picture nod he’s in the running as a producer (along with Emma Thomas). “Toy Story 3,” with some help from the expanded 10-movie field, will take on “Inception” in the best picture race. There are eight other nominees but there’s not a single superhero, killer robot, alien menace or zombie in them. Oh and I forgot: The Oscars broadcast is being hosted by Spider-Man’s buddy (Franco) and Batman’s curvy new frenemy (Anne Hathaway).
This itself deserves its own reward, then there's the entire movie soundtrack, bonus. I don't see why Hans Zimmer hasn't auto won this already.
This isn't true. People are nominated by their peers, so directors are nominated by fellow directors, actors by other actors,etc... Obviously there are politics at play, but it isn't actually run by a bunch of out of touch old men.
My ass. The only people who are actually involved in the process are, you guessed it, RETIRED OLD MEN.
127 Hours will win best picture. I hope...
The Town should be on that list.
it seems like it's going to be a toss up between the king's speech and social network to win best picture i'd like social network to win, but i have a feeling the king's speech will take it [editline]30th January 2011[/editline] also nolan not getting nominated for best director and inception not getting nominated for best editing is INSANE
The Town should be on that list.
despite it's high reviews, it was thoroughly average. enjoyable and well made, but average.
Natalie Portman should win Best Actress.
is "The King's Speech" that good? Too bad I'll have to wait till some good BluRay cut is out
Natalie Portman should win Best Actress.
Personally I preferred the girl from Winter's Bone.
Kinda disappointed to see Daft Punk aren't up for either of the music awards.
Personally I preferred the girl from Winter's Bone.
it's too bad that movie was so fucking NOTHING [editline]31st January 2011[/editline]
Kinda disappointed to see Daft Punk aren't up for either of the music awards.
their soundtrack was really average though so
Someone please tell me what is so amazing about fucking SOCIAL NETWORK. Its winning all the golden globes. And it won best score. THE FUCK MAN.
Someone please tell me what is so amazing about fucking SOCIAL NETWORK. Its winning all the golden globes. And it won best score. THE FUCK MAN.
I haven't seen it, but I don't know why it is hyped that much. Is it REALLY that good? It is a movie about Facebook. Once I see it, I better be blown away :smug:
as cool as hans zimmer is, if i hear another fucking french horn blaring from his work i'll scream BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR over and over and over
Only one song has that.
their soundtrack was really average though so
The soundtrack yeah, but it's worth it just for Derezzed (which I feel could hold its own in the "original song" category).
The soundtrack yeah, but it's worth it just for Derezzed (which I feel could hold its own in the "original song" category).
I hope it could, but you see electronic music still has a stigma attached to it.
I hope it could, but you see electronic music still has a stigma attached to it.
Sadly. Objective measurement of art forms just doesn't work. The song sounds awesome and that's all I care about - not how hard it was to write/create.
Someone please tell me what is so amazing about fucking SOCIAL NETWORK. Its winning all the golden globes. And it won best score. THE FUCK MAN.
Have you seen it? It is genuinely a fantastic movie despite being about facebook.
Am I the only one disappointed that Kickass wasn't nominated for anything? I thought it was a fucking excellent movie and should have at least had 1 nomination :saddowns:
Jeff Bridges fo life
