My only RWD experiences are with my sister's Nissan 240SX and my Volkswagen Type 1. My early 90's Lexus ES300 was a FWD ended up sporting 250hp before its unfortunate (Read, welcome) death. They are/were all VERY fun to drive. Truthfully, your preference on RWD vs. FWD comes down to driving style, as the each lend to separate styles.
My only AWD experience is from my 2002 Dodge Ram. So, I don't really have much to say on the handling. It's a god damn truck.

Yeah, that too. :c00l:
I own a car that stock has 200whp FWD. If you want a really fast car, get RWD period end of story.
Fwd can be quick and fun, but torque steer is the most horrible thing ever.
Them unequal length axles are a real bitch, aren't they?
holy wow, this is pretty much the first time I venture into AA, gotta say you guys make quite the auto fanatic impression
I'm staying.
My car has 200hp and is FWD. No torque steer to speak of. I'll report back once I have 250hp/300tq.
Drag racing its fine if you can hook. Trying to accellerate WOT out of the apex of a turn, there is no such thing as a FWD car without torque steer. The only car that is FWD i've seen without torque steer had after-market motor-mounts and no LSD.

When I floor it out of the apex of a turn I get a bit of spin but no torque steer. smushy vdub motor mounts and an open diff. :v:

GTIs have equal length axles. Stock. His car won't torque steer.
Ever.
Equal length shafts ftw
So thats what causes torque steer? Unequal halfshafts or w/e?

We're good folks here.

lol there's always going to be a few once in a while

I have VF Motor mounts...
http://www.vf-accessories.com/acc_vw_mk3mounts.php
And an LSD. Torque steer doesn't exist in the least bit. WOT out of a hairpin, it just pulls in the direction you are pointing thanks to the LSD.
I get a bit of torque steer out of my CRX, I've noticed, but I'm not sure if I'm running an LSD or not. I know it's an Si tranny, but IIRC the limited slip was optional, so the only thing I know to do is pick her up, hold one wheel and spin the other.
....I'll do that when I feel like it.
Although once I had my dad fab up some solid torque mounts for the car, there is essentially no torque steer anymore.
I mean, it was ever so slight before. I'm talking about a car with maybe ~120 ft-lbs of torque, and [i]maybe[/]i ~130hp.
GTIs have equal length axles. Stock. His car won't torque steer.
Ever.
Not true, even slight body roll while turning causes torque steer. He may not be producing enough torque for it to be an issue.
Edit:
Maybe I've got so much torque (302ft/lbs) that I make this out to be more horrible than it is...
VWs produce max torque by 1800rpm. Direct injection bullshit. 207lb/ft.
Now my hondas on the other hand, that might be true. But a GTI? Nope.
Great car except for them being awful if ever driven in winter weather. I have a 1990 volkswagon corrado g60 with 40000 miles and I'm fairly certain the cold air injector is not functioning well and i know i am getting low oil pressure from a clogged filter on the pump. It has only been through one winter ever and otherwise had perfect and recorded maintenance.

Really? I've driven mine through every winter that I've owned it for. About 4 winters, never had a single problem. Slap on snow tires, and with the LSD it was unstoppable.
that engine is fucking weird looking
Almost done building the new air compressor, then work can resume.
The old one exploded in a fantastic explosion. It was a pos oil free craftsman direct drive. Replacing it with a oil lubricated, belt drive 5hp pump and motor.

How is this for a little progress? Clutch in, transmission back in, head spacer and head back on. Now just doing some mock up for tube routing. :p

Saw a Corrado today and immediately thought of this thread. Any updates Roadhog?
More updates!

Not much worth updating that would be really noticeable atm.
This makes me wish I knew how to actually work on cars.
Ignore the shitty welds. I have to fix my welder... It won't feed the wire consistently. :(
