The thing would have never been used in combat if it was made, it would have been like those massive french tanks, just used to raise moral and pride. It's wildly impractical, if the war lasted long enough for them to get it out of a factory, they would have had to deal with the Allies new wave of jet fighters, YP-80's and such.

IIRC the design for the Leman Russ MBT was based on the british MK III/V tanks, but with a turrent added.
I guess this kinda counts as a tank, considering how it's tracked and probably has thicker armour than a Pzkpfw 2.

I was thinking here, if any of these tanks get hit by another tank in the upper moving part where the barrel is, how truly fucked beyond repair do these tanks get?

It'll knock out commander's optics and damage the machine gun. If it actually penetrates, it'll kill the commander.

If you're talking about the turret ring, it'll break the turret ring and the gunner won't be able to move the turret anymore. If the shell actually penetrates past the turret ring it would probably kill a few crewman. If you're talking about the copula, if it hits it it will knock out optics for the commander, if it penns it will kill him.
Not to mention that taking a hit from another tank will probably result in in a lot of noise and discomfort inside the tank regardless of penetration. Also taking out the optics would result to the gunner and/or commander having a very bad day.

Well, the PT-91 is a modified T-72M but not T-90.
