woo hoo watch if you havent. no clue if region blocked so sorry non-us peeps if it is.
Holy shit, this is one the best things I've seen a while. Fucking brilliant writing. I mean [sp]Headless Man-Horse[/sp] sounds like something you'd hear on Rick and Morty [editline]16th August 2017[/editline] Everything that comes out of Launchpad's [del]mouth[/del] beak is gold.
Really the biggest things I need to get past are the kids. I don't care for their voices. And the distinct personalities they decided to give them seem like generic choices. But I know that isn't saying much as in the original Ducktales they were essentially the same character.
This series looks to be half Ducktales reboot and half animated adaptation of the Carl Barks Duck universe, and that's fucking awesome. Now that looks familiar...
I hope they go for some don rosa stuff too
This series looks to be half Ducktales reboot and half animated adaptation of the Carl Barks Duck universe, and that's fucking awesome.
jesus, if that's true then "fucking awesome" doesn't even begin to describe it, honestly
[t]http://i.imgur.com/DlykVFH.png[/t] There are a few stitching errors in that picture because I joined two frames and the perspective doesn't line up perfectly. But holy shit, Webby's board contains tons of shit to unpack. This girl is bringing the Gravity Falls to Duckburg within the first 10 minutes of the episode.
Dismal Downs when is Castle McDuck???
Castle McDuck is sited on the fictional place of Dismal Downs, in Scotland. It was featured in several Carl Barks stories exploring Scrooge's history. And, when is Castle McDuck is an odd question to ask. Connected to the Castle McDuck paper is a list of McDuck names, starting with Sir Roast McDuck. Logically enough, this is a list of ancestors in Clan McDuck:
Sir Roast McDuck (1159-1205) Captain Hugh "Seafoam" McDuck (1710-1776) Malcolm "Matey" McDuck (1530-1564?) Sir Stuft McDuck (1110-1175) Sir ??? Sir Quackly McDuck (1010-1057; from earlier Quackly MacDuich) Sir Eider McDuck (880-946; from earlier Eider MacDuich)
There is no Sir ELDER McDuck in the traditional Clan McDuck character list but there was Sir EIDER. Eider is notable for being cheap and being killed in battle because his serfs abandoned him after he refused to buy them arrows and paid them, collectively, a mere 30 coppers an hour. (30 cents an hour is a classic Scrooge gag.)
Terra Firmian Sighting!
Terra-Firmians were antagonists of the week in a Ducktales episode. They're ball-like humanoids that live in the center of the Earth and can cause earthquakes that threatened the Money Bin.
Scotty McDuck -> Alternate Timeline? ???
This is actually really clever, because it references an internal retcon. In Carl Barks' 1950s Duck Family Tree, Scrooge's father is given the name "Old 'Scotty' McDuck". However, when he later appeared in stories, he was named Fergus. Webby is gathering information from our universe, guys.
Dirty Dingus
"Dirty" Dingus McDuck was Scrooge's grandfather according to the Don Rosa Duck family tree. The Beagle Boy names are some of the 90s Ducktales names for the Boys.
Good for the Goose
"...is good for the Gander" and that's his portrait right there. Gladstone Gander is Donald's cousin, and, to hard-working and easily-fucked-over Donald's endless frustration, he's lazy to a fault but also supernaturally lucky so he just glides through life. Donald hates it. Quackmore Duck is Donald's father and the triplets' maternal grandfather. The Skypirates are probably a Talespin reference, and the first episode references the towns in Talespin, Goof Troop, and Darkwing Duck, so they can be assumed to coexist -- and we know DW is confirmed to be in this show. Plain Awful is from the Barks Donald Duck classic, "Lost in the Andes!" F.O.W.L. is a Ducktales and Darkwing Duck version of S.P.E.C.T.R.E.
10¢ = ... #11
This is clearly a reference to the Lucky Dime, but with the paper folded it's impossible to figure out what it's referencing.
Who is D.B.? } Gigi?
No idea. Within the oldschool Duck family trees, nobody has the family name B because they're all Duck, McDuck, Loon, Goose, Mallard, or some other avian-related word, but no Bs. All Beagle Boys' given names start with B except for Ma Beagle. I didn't check Talespin/Darkwing/Goof Troop's character lists, or a wider Disney search. A super huge stretch would be that it's "Duckworth the Butler" but that doesn't make sense.
Nerther World War II

22 + 1400 = 87?

The Traitor
I have no idea. The map appears to be a depiction of Duckburg from the opposite perspective of the official map Disney released that shows the Money Bin and Scrooge's home on the top of the hill. The bin is clearly visible projected out in the water, and then there's this whole other island going on past Silverbeak. Now, what's interesting is looking at the strings with implied relationships. First, there are the obvious ones connecting Scrooge to his immediate family and a close employee - his mother and father, his sister Hortense, and Mrs. Beakly. Hortense connects to her husband Quackmore who is connected to his son Donald. But more interesting is that Donald, Scrooge, and Webby (and Mrs. B) connect to the Terra Firmian newsclipping, which seems like a pretty straightforward reference to the Ducktales episode. Scrooge is also connected to the "What looms larger than McDuck's Shadow?" panel -- which is also connected to Mrs. B. and two very ambiguous photos of two figures and a classic car which connect to "Dirty" Dingus, Scrooge's grandfather. Boy, that hints at some McDuck family lore to uncover. The Sky pirates are connected to "The Last Treasure" as well as Dismal Downs. I smell more backstory coming. "Scrooge's Worst Nightmare" is ambiguous but also an obvious thing to eventually use in a plot, since what writer doesn't eventually throw his protagonist's worst nightmare at him? Possibly the most subtle thing of all is that Scrooge's name is written as
crooge McDuck
as stylized on the cover of the classic comics. the Uncle Hampuss bit was amazing, I haven't laughed that hard in a while.
[LORE INTENSIFIES]
Having read Don Rosa like it's the bible, yes. I am amazed they got so many details, but I'm gonna be that guy and to point out the elephant in the Transvaal. [sp]Flintheart Glomgold is South African[/sp] Apart from that, this was absolutely wonderful.

I cannot believe how well David Tennant is embodying Scrooge like Alan Young did.
[Sp]He is faking being Scottish, it was confirmed when they announced he will show up[/sp]
[sp]Oops, looks like I missed that. Granted I didn't follow much of the developement, but that's... actually a nice twist.[/sp]
I only saw the original DuckTales when I was really small, so I don't have much nostalgia for it. (Also enjoyed Darkwing Duck, but it was usually on too late so I always had to go to bed before it came on.) From the perspective of someone who knows nothing about duck lore, this was actually really good. I'm excited to see where this goes, and I don't often say that about animated shows.
