I came to the thread intending to make a joke about having to pay stuff yourself for a change but then I read the op and now I feel bad.

swebonny that has nothing to do with political party its a old foreign nationals ban that congress has "more important" things to do
look, people don't even care that you're a communist
they don't care about your pollitical views, so you can live, work, study, etc
You should be able to change it if you decide to stay in North America. Only if you want to though.
Only old people are really going to look down on you for your political beliefs, and unless you go around waving a Soviet flag or wear an Ushanka with a soviet pin, nobody will notice or really care. Colleges in the US lean politically to the left, so if you actually believe in a communist ideology, I'm sure you'll be able to find someone who believes in it as well.
McCarthyism hasn't been a thing in the US since long before the cold war ended, so I doubt you'll have to worry much.
I sometimes march around with an ushanka with a soviet pin whlist holding a USSR flag while singing the Soviet Union national anthem and nobody seems to care

LETHAL FORCE ENGAGED. DEATH IS A PREFERABLE ALTERNATIVE TO COMMUNISM.
But really, as long as you don't go around spouting propaganda or anything you should be fine. I imagine a lot of people would enjoy talking to you about how your government operates, selects party members, etc.
I am Chinese, and unfortunately, I was forced to join the commie party for I was one of the top students and elected to be one last year in my college. I just couldn't say no because being a party member means honor in China ,although I don't think so. If I had rejected the offer, I would have been investigated for political belief, ideology or something, which could have been dangerous to my college life. However, now I am devoted to studying abroad, especially in Canada or America. I've taken the GRE and TOEFL tests, having made huge efforts. I really don't wanna my commie identity overshadow my grad school abroad. So any of you give me some insights about this. Do I have to take risks leaving the party?? Do American and Canadian societies accept people like me?
My roommate is an exchange student from China. He is openly opposed to Chinese Communism and has said so in front of both me and his fellow Chinese exchange students. He gets along fine here. Alternatively, there are also several students here who are diehard Chinese Communist Party members who have a social life and are accepted. I don't think you have to worry about it as long as you have the academic credentials, English skills, and money to study in America and Canada.
Canada should be better lower education costs too
I don't know about the United States but in Canada, universities and employers aren't allowed to ask for or look into your past or present political affiliations, and if they happen to know them they aren't allowed to discriminate against you for them.
Besides, Canada has two official federal communist parties. They don't hold any seats but it's not like we don't have communists here.

Our university tuition rates for international students are basically the same as the ones in the United States.
I believe it's illegal for colleges/universities in the US to reject or otherwise mistreat students based on political beliefs.
I wouldn't worry about it.
but remember his education visa has to be approved by someone in the united states government. idk the government's policy on chinese communist party members, but it's quite possible that they might deny them entry to the country. i mean this a country that recently banned chinese nationals from attending a nasa conference due to "national security" issues.
but then again if the united states banned every member of the chinese communist party they would be denying some of the brightest young minds of china and i'm pretty sure the united states wants those minds here hoping they might defect and just stay.
btw op the only way you can be sure if being a communist party member is detrimental to going to the usa is actually going to an american embassy/consulate and asking.
The first thing to know is that literally no one would ever know unless you explicitly told them. I'm also sure pretty much everyone would commiserate with your position and actively try to help you if they could.

Check out Boulder, Colorado my friend.
If you're going to study and get a degree here, please stay in the country for at least another five years after while you work your profession.
Most of western Canada is hurting badly from people coming to town just for classes, graduating and then running back to their home country. Outside of the trades we are short just about everything because were fighting for the same class space and being outfunded.

Instead of importing people from the far-east, why not import them from our East? I hear Newfies and Nova Scotians are moving west because there's no jobs back home, just invite some of them to come over. If everyone moves, we can turn the whole maritimes into a nature preserve.
Don't mention it on your SOP.
PFF communists, they still make those?
na McCarthyism has been replaced with islamiphobia you'll be just fine
If you were forced into the party like you say then there's no way anyone will give a shit.
I doubt anyone would give a shit even if you believed in the political ideology, either. The Cold War ended over 20 years ago and that's about when everyone stopped giving a shit.
Stay in the party, work your way through the ranks, then promote better reform for your country once you're at the top.
A great idea and that's such a noble work to do,which could be life-risking .
I hope for the best man, nobody would discriminate against you for your current political "standings", hell people will probably want to talk about it to get an idea as to what goes on over there.

Dirty Commies!
Unless you are not a commie in your heart, it's totally fine.
