I'm not seeing that at all. How long has it been since you last watched the trilogy? Every time I go back and watch all the CGI looks dated, though less so in RotK. [editline]19th September 2012[/editline] It is certainly all a lot more vivid and colorful in the Hobbit, and I think that lends a less realistic feel, but I don't think it makes the CGI itself worse.
Actually watched the whole trilogy for the 14th time 3 weeks ago. Bluray extended edition is amazing.
I wonder if this is something they forgot to fix :v:
If Baggins loses, we eats it whole. ...sounds good.
If Baggins loses, we eats it whole. ...sounds good.
'We likes them raw. And wwrrriggling'
What is "it", exactly?
It's gollum talking. Baggins is the "It" in his sentence.
He'd eat Bilbo whole? Jesus Christ.
Probably not whole, he'd have to divvy him up first.
I remember playing a game about this. It was actually pretty cool. Anyways, I love the story. I was never sure why Gandalf chose Bilbo, though, instead of someone else.
The only way to some up my reaction when I looked at this trailer. My sister works at a cinema and she might be able to get me the poster they put up on the walls inside when they take it down. If I get it I will frame it and put it on my wall.
Plus I'm not sure if it really gels well with the existing LOTR movies, stuff like that little "funny" clip after the title at the end just doesn't feel right IMO.
I dunno, remember all that cheesy humor in LOTR from merry and pippin, and especially gimli? It sometimes felt out of place at first, but having watched them so many times they seem totally natural to me now somehow, hopefully that kinda shit will be the same way in this. Also as people have said, there's gonna be loads of extra content about things that were going on in Middle Earth at the time of the Hobbit that weren't included in the actual book
I fucking love The Hobbit and LOTR (books and films) ... but I have serious reservations for these films. The main gripe is turning it into a trilogy, let's not beat around the bush here.. but The Hobbit storyline is extremely thin compared to that of LOTR. They pretty much tacked on a third film last minute to make more money, which is disappointing. Dont get me wrong, I'll be thrilled to return to Middle Earth, and I think it looks stunning... but I'm worried about lack of substance. Plus I'm not sure if it really gels well with the existing LOTR movies, stuff like that little "funny" clip after the title at the end just doesn't feel right IMO. I cant imagine myself crying like a fucking baby like I did at some parts of LOTR, or getting goosebumps. This one feels like much more of a big blockbuster, and not in a good way.
You are aware that they're incorporating other stories from The Silmarillion in the new movie, right?
Haven't seen the other LOTR movies so my expectations aren't as high as other people's, but this looks like its going to trump TDKR as my favorite movie of the year. Although, this trailer really made me change my perseption of some of the locations in The Hobbit [sp] like the troll mines, I thought they would be close and claustrophobic when I read the book, but they are more spacious [/sp].

They're just amazing.
You really should watch them. They're just amazing.
I would rather read the book's first, but I might watch the movies anyway considering it took me a week to finish the Fellowship of the Ring.
God damn it I want to see Smaug.
I'm getting the feeling that none of us are going to see Smaug until opening night, 2013.
I'm getting the feeling that none of us are going to see Smaug until opening night, 2013.
Considering the movie is going to be cut into parts, its possible Smaug is not in the first movie at all. Which would disappoint me greatly.
Considering the movie is going to be cut into parts, its possible Smaug is not in the first movie at all. Which would disappoint me greatly.
What, really? You want them in laketown by the end of film 1? Do you even KNOW how much of the plot that is?
Smaug will only be glimpsed in film 1 (according to Jackson), so I only expect shadows and so on. Full reveal will probably be in film 2.
I swear some of that CGI looks worse than Lord of the Rings. Strange.
Still 3 months left. I think the movie hasn't even gone into post-production yet.
If he can do 1300 pages in 3 films, he can do 320 in 2 (plus a little extra to fill the gap between films) 2 films is pushing it, 3 is completely unnecessary.
He will show us in the second movie how Gandalf, Galadriel, Elrond and Saruman fight against the necromancer that was only briefly mentioned in the book. He will also put in what happened to the Erabor dwarves. And I think he will also show us the fall of Dol Guldor. All of these happenings weren't in the book, but they all fit, because they play in the same timeframe. He has a reason to make 3 movies, it's not just because of the money.
I really hope Christopher lee doesn't die before they finish filming.
I really hope Christopher lee doesn't die before they finish filming.
He already filmed his scenes, although he had to do them by himself in London as he's too frail to fly to New Zealand. They'll digitally insert him in with Gandalf and the other characters.
That's really sad. Christopher Lee is a man I have tremendous respect for. I think it would be tragic if one of the films was dedicated to his memory. :(
I have an autographed shirt from Peter Jackson and Viggo Mortensen
I seriously cannot wait for this film. Seeing Gandalf again reminds me of back when Ian McKellen came to my school when I was still there, he patted me on the shoulder. Best moment.

I think I'm going to splurge a lot of money on this movie to see it at an IMAX theater if its released in that format. (It fucking better be)
I really hope Christopher lee doesn't die before they finish filming.
holy shit I had no idea he's 90
90 years of pure distilled intimidation in human form.
