I've been wondering for quite a while now, how is it that when we talk to ourselves in our heads that we perceive it as sound even though we aren't using our voice in anyway? If there is no sound for our ears to perceive and then convert it from acoustic energy into electrical energy, how can we hear ourselves think without using our voice?
We think in concepts. Ever notice how you sometimes have to find words for what you just thought?
You don't really "hear" what you think any more than you "see" what you imagine.
It's called a "phonological loop". It means what you hear in your head now are memories of sounds -recordings, if you will. You brain places them together. I.e, when you're reading out a word you've never said before, like "Hekelottovadrugs", you're placing the pieces together: Heke-lott-ova-drugs. Hence, syllables! :eng101:
I studied it in psychology. Just like how we see images in our head, without them being there -that's the "visuo-spatial sketechpad".
Brain, or the human brain, is a fascinating little thing.

i gotta say this is pretty fucking cool
Wow.....mindfuck, never thought twice about this concept at all.
What an amazing piece of organic matter the brain is.
shit and if we are to reach level 6 of our sub conscious we can communicate with one another through our brain waves. for example like when me and a good friend of mine chill and we have conversations i'll be thinking of something and my head and he will mention it right off the bat and same when he thinks and i say. i believe it's because that our sub conscious's have linked together so we share a lot of the same thoughts when before hand it never had happened, it started happening after doing a lot of meditation

also psychedelic's also help reach that level excluding salvia as that closes certain things

Think about how a squishy and slimy stress-ball feels if you are to hold it in your left hand. Now squeeze and un-squeeze the ball several times. Are you moving your hands?
Have you ever held a squishy, slimy stress-ball before? Maybe you have, but probably not. You can imagine it still though, right?
Now hold both your hands out flat, palms up. They are both empty. With your right hand, pretend to put something heavy in your left hand (like, say, a paperweight). It's quite heavy, but you can keep your hand up without a problem. Look at both your hands palm up. The left hand feels different, doesn't it? Now your left hand is getting a little tired, so put the paperweight in the other hand and repeat. Cool, eh? Now throw that shit across the room!

Oh fuck, I hate holding imaginary objects because I can never just snap out of it to continue whatever I'm doing with my hands. Just to type this I had to put the weight down on the sofa so my hands were free..
My friends seem to know this happens, and when I'm high they sometimes put me in a "box". With their hands they make a box and "put" it over my head. When someone first put the box on me they all started miming rather than talking so it seemed like the box is sound-proof. It would have worked if someone hadn't already told me about it beforehand. They still put the box on me though, and it terrifies me because until someone takes it off again, I feel segregated. I can't take the box off myself, I can try, but it never feels like it's gone. I have to get someone else to take it off.
