I just shot a concert last night for the first time. I came in thinking I'm going to get shots like dvorak. :v: Honestly harder than I thought. A lot less control (really no control at all) of what's going on. I learned a lot and came out with some usable shots for my school newspaper. Anyways I just couldn't get certain settings right. Sometimes the singers faces would be way too overexposed or too underexposed. Plus, I'm super short so it'd be hard to get some shots because of taller people than me. I'll try to upload a couple of shots later on.
hey guys I've been on and off with photography for while and i've only used a kit lens. I want to branch out and try something new, but have no idea what kind of lens I should use any suggestions?
probs a nice fast prime lines, in the range of 50ish to 35ish mm, the 50mm 1.8 is comically good for its price but you might want to try out a bunch of other focal lengths, the 50 being great for portraits and people-o-graphy being a short-telephoto lens

that's what i meant with the portraits and people-o-graphy, 80mm (50*1.6) being a dank length for it with the other being the 1.8 aperture
yup, 50mm on the crop is great for headshots
i shot a whole engagement with a 50mm for everything but group shots with more than 2-3 people
I don't think I've ever used TTL and don't know anyone who does It's like auto on the camera its always off in some way or another
i dunno, depends on what and how you're shooting if you're shooting people in a changing environment (like some sort of event where you're moving around the place) then sticking the camera to manual and the flash metering to TTL works out alright most of the time and also saves you time (or at least the canon ttl flash metering is decent enough for this) [editline]16th March 2014[/editline]
I just might cop another OM-10 for 20 euro including: bag, Zuiko 50mm f/1.8 v.2, Zuiko 135mm f/3.5, manual adapter and a few filters. Mainly buying this for the 135mm because my current has a slightly busted apperture ring and doesn't lock onto the mount, plus I've been looking for a manual adapter for months ever since my OM-20 died.
if you're going for an OM body, get a single digit one if you can find em cheap, an OM-1 or 2 feels quite a lot nicer to use than the 10, plus the single digits are known to be more reliable than the double digits

I wish there was a cheap 23mm f/1.4 or something, for crops. It would be like a 35mm f/1.8 (or something like that) on a FF. [editline]16th March 2014[/editline] Fuji make one but unlike their other lenses it's HELLA EPENSIVE and like £800 from not the grey market. [editline]16th March 2014[/editline] Literally keeps me awake at night.
As for the reliability I think it's mostly a big guess. I'm rocking a 20+ year old OM-10 that's been the main family camera of a good friend of mine, lots of wear and tear but it works a charm and I've shot 20+ rolls of film with it. I've also shot a OM-20 handed down from my grandfather, no wear and tear at all it looked brand new but after 2 rolls the film winder just locked up and it doesn't work anymore.
why would the aperture be smaller

From my experience though it doesn't provide as much blur on APS-C as my 35mm f2 does on full frame, not really sure why. It's a great lens on film though. SLR magic has a fully manual 23mm f1.7 iirc

I was considering one, but if it's not silky smooth and instead jerky and rough, I wouldn't consider it.
what are you shooting with? Canon? Nikon? Sony??
i use a nikon d50
Super smooth, less resistance than older manual focus lenses though. It works perfectly fine, just not dampened a ton
i use a nikon d50
So a Nikon: get the 35mm 1.8g dx It's Nikon's plastic fantastic
i use a nikon d50
I have one of those, it's so great. [editline]16th March 2014[/editline]
Super smooth, less resistance than older manual focus lenses though.
I have one of those, it's so great.
kinda old, around 2005 I think I got it. Great all around camera though, no complaints
kinda old, around 2005 I think I got it. Great all around camera though, no complaints
Yeah, that's what's so great about it. The difference between it and modern cams are just conveniences.
who else here is on r/photography?
Me
so i'm most likely going to buy that nikkor 35 mm 1.8, but does anyone have any pictures used with that lens or something similar? I tried searching google but then remembered this forum's posters are excellent photographers haha

Any SD peepz?
I've got a couple of rolls of 35mm and a roll of Ilford Delta 400 120 to develop. Previously I gave them to my housemate and he developed/scanned them using his own shit. Trouble is, he graduated last year... Planning on just taking the 35mm to boots, but not sure what to do with the 120. Anyone got any recommendations for photo developing places (chains or just just somewhere in north or central London)?
