I got my first camera because of a CNET review. I saw the Nex 5 while looking for a new phone, and decided that I wanted a small camera that took good pictures. Previously my best camera was my LG dare. I went with the 16mm kit because it had less barrel distortion lol. My parents got it for my as my high school graduation present. While I was waiting for it to arrive (got delayed stateside from June to August) I found an AE-1P at goodwill that I bought because it looked cool and was half off. It had light leaks so I ran like one roll of film through it. Eventually I adapted the lenses to my Nex (was hot on that train, I wrote one of the first amazon reviews for a third party adapter), and that really drove me to be more interested in it because I was getting shallow DoF shots. Stumbled upon the photo section by chance, and I have been active here since late 2011. I had seen Edwin's photos before in big threads and his have been really inspiring for me even when I wasn't doing many myself.
Worked my ass off for money for a big trip to the US and decided that such a once-in-a-lifetime thing needs a proper cam so I made my whole family give me birthday/eastern/christmas presents for two years together and got the cam. [editline]20th March 2014[/editline] Great band I just discovered
I climbed around derelict places a lot and wanted a better camera to capture them, so I think I talked to B-Hazard and ended up with a Zenit 11 which broke so I got another one, and I ended up interested in photography in general. Oh and cameras, got so many now and I work with a camera dealer every other saturday.
late, but i got into photography when a friend of my parents, a professional photographer, gave me a polaroid 600 land camera, and i took a picture of broken pay phone in my moms friends back yard in san francisco. After that, my grandpa gave me his nikon n4004s, which I shot one roll on, and then I got a lomo fisheye, and thats when it really started. [editline]20th March 2014[/editline] i still have that picture somewhere (and i drew the sylar symbols on the bottom because i was big into heroes at the time :v:)
Got into photo by taking photos of products to sell on ebay lmao
how do you guys stay motivated to keep taking pics, I haven't been shooting much lately and it makes me sad
I really like the feeling of photographs getting developed, that keeps me motivated
how do you guys stay motivated to keep taking pics, I haven't been shooting much lately and it makes me sad
Three reasons for me, firstly I try and take my camera with me as much as I can, when appropriate, so I keep it in my bag when going to and from university, etc, this way if I'm hit with inspiration (motivation) I can just quickly get it out and shoot. Benefit of having a small camera, didn't shoot as much as when I had a DSLR. Second reason is looking at other people's photographs and getting inspired to go to a new place or try and recreate style or composition I haven't done before, basically I get motivated through photoblogs and you guys here on FP to try new things. Third being I try and participate in communities, like here on FP and being part of the team who run the (really fucking huge) university photographic society. I do talks, trips and equipment, which helps me learn a lot as I'm researching a new place to go or the topic I'll be talking about. I think the biggest benefit of this is hard to describe, you feed off each other's motivation and passion when part of a tight community.
i get motivated cos most people i know and look at my photos are easily impressed
how do you guys stay motivated to keep taking pics, I haven't been shooting much lately and it makes me sad
Bring a camera everywhere u go, be it film or digital, phone or hasselblad. No excuses.
when i do shit with friends for some reason that gets me in the mood for shooting its really hard to get motivated alone
it makes me happy when I post a photo here and people say they like it
Reading about how people got started made me think about my entire experience with photography and how it in the end just.. fizzled out, kinda. Imma try to really pick it up again and finally start posting here
it makes me happy when I post a photo here and people say they like it
this honestly. it makes me happy that a photo I took resonated with a person and made them feel something, anything really, maybe they even hate it but at least they felt an emotion. I think the worse thing anyone can say about a photo is they're indifferent or they don't feel anything about it.
i get motivated cos most people i know and look at my photos are easily impressed
tbh it's a nice feeling when people you like and care about say they enjoyed looking at your photos [editline]21st March 2014[/editline] looking at other people's stuff is great when you feel like you're stuck in the same place and unmotivated, because it reminds you of what can be achieved with a camera
i got to hold a mamiya c330 in photo class and i was so fucking stoked it even more awesome than i thought and it gets better, the prof says he will lend me one for a couple days at a time starting next week (!!!!!)
The whole week it was sunny outside but I had no time to take photos. Now I have and the weather is bad.
6D shutter is rated for 100,000 mines at gonna keep going with it and see how long it lasts, probably a good idea to get the shutter replaced preemptively but it will be interesting to see when/if it dies
the shutter rating isnt a definitive number. some cameras rated for 100,000 get to 50k and break, some get to 400k before they break
I ate raw brownie batter a few hours ago and now I feel kinda nauseous and I can't tell if it's because I am sick or because of the meds I take and my throat has been sore for the past 2 days so I'm just sitting on a towel in my bathroom next to the toilet hoping my symptoms reside Saturday night life of a high schooler
Assisted photography for a wedding today, it actually went really well on my end I thought. Was like a 9 hour job but it was a lot of fun, and my friend who I was assisting for gave me $50 which I am super psyched on because I went in thinking it was free. Experience alone was wonderful, he was very helpful with planning and execution, I'd feel confident doing one again in the future. I'll post some pics soon, I did some trog style detail shots and a few more typical wedding ones. Just need to take the time to wade through and edit

2nd hands are just as much as new ones here it's so dumb ill have a browse on digitalrev though, thanks
Is it just me or is Digital Rev in this strange place between white market and grey market? It has grey market prices but has reliable shipping and returns, customer services and even a popular youtube series. I was unsure about ordering from Honk Kong originally.
apparently I have been unknowingly using my "shorted out" d7100 battery and it has been working as fine as it did before :/ ill take it
Watched 2 docus on Netflix. 1 on Crewdson and 1 on Bill Cunningham. Really interesting.
