if you don't have a rate im going to assume you don't do this very often (or maybe even have never before) which in turns makes me assume you dont have a portfolio or w/e to show which makes $150 an hour quite a high price imo
unless all my above assumptions are wrong in which case excuse me
Hey folks, gonna do a wedding soon. However, I don't have a rate....would $150 an hour be logical? Or no?
Honestly I would decline unless you are assisting or shooting backup. Wedding photography is a trade all its own and unless you really think you have the necessary skills and equipment you could end up disappointing a newly married couple.

my biggest fear
[editline]9th May 2014[/editline]
i slept through my alarm and missed a job interview
then i called them to apologize and maybe reschedule they said "yeah, we're all booked in interviews, sorry"
i was super mad at myself, cursing at myself and stuff, and then they call me and say "yeah, a whole bunch of people canceled, you want to come in on monday?"
so it all worked out in the end(???)

This so much. You do NOT want this to happen.
blogpunch time etc
So ASOS have asked me to be like a style scout for them in clubs and stuff, find pretty and stylish girls and getting a shot of them then sending over to them the next day so they can do a writeup about what's hot or not or something like that
I'm super unfasionable and don't know much about it so this will be interesting
Pay is insane though - £10 per image sent, which doesn't sound like much but if I send like 10 a night that's an extra £100 a night for literally no work
that's fucking awesome man. That's a line of work I wouldn't mind getting into since I love fashion and shit like that. You should go through the #streetwear or #menswear on Tumblr. I'm a big fan of Four-Pins and their street style articles so here's some. It might be different since you're in a club but hope this helps. There's always those people you just kinda know dresses weird because they're banking on getting photographed.

I photographed my own senior prom and the photographs came out really great. I'm actually really great at shooting candid portraits and all that jazz.
maybe if you could give us some examples of your work we could help you determine if the price you're asking is fair, or if you should do it at all?
I photographed my own senior prom and the photographs came out really great. I'm actually really great at shooting candid portraits and all that jazz.
You sound a little overconfident mate. You need to be straight to the point and honest with them and tell them you're obviously not professional - you don't make a living from this. You need to tell them that they risk the possibility of having their day captured in the best light. And if you do go ahead with it, write up a contract consisting of an agreement over the specific images you will capture, this is so important. I am not saying this in a rude way, I still say the same thing to potential clients of my own and am speaking from my own personal experience. Good luck mate, I hope you do a great job.
Guys, I need help. My camera doesn't want to detect my sd card. The card works in everything else. The corner opposite of the angled one next to the contacts is slightly chipped. Very slightly, the damage is barely visible.
I can get it to sorta work, if I push it in but if I let it go the squishyness of the port will push the card out and it'll stop working. Help :c
buy a new sd card - they're cheap and maybe it's time to get a 32gb sandisk extreme?
a friend of mine borrowed my 32gb and fell off the face of the earth.
your friend or the card
friends don't let friends borrow sd cards

Shit, I wish I did that for my senior prom instead of all the drama bullshit that happened at mine.
[editline]10th May 2014[/editline]
actually I just wish I got into photography sooner.
i made a thing by accident that's mildly cool

my friend
his phone inbox is full, he wont respond to texts or facebook, i haven't seen his truck around
i would be worried about him, but his inbox message changed, and his documentary tumblr was last updated 9 days ago, so hes not dead or anything (i think)
i just want my damn card back, damn...
ah crap, some girl got hold of my camera and it fell.
[t]http://u.cubeupload.com/tratzzz/20140511123649.jpg[/t]
the bayonet ring mount thing broke apart from the camera AND the objective. And I don't know how to fix it now.
[t]http://u.cubeupload.com/tratzzz/20140511125854.jpg[/t]
What's the other thing with the ribbon cable called? Or does it come out from the objective? It is a Nikkor AF-S DX VR 18-55mm
[editline]11th May 2014[/editline]
oh, they are literally called the main contacts. Not sold for the 18-55mm on ebay tho.
bill her for a new lens. will be cheaper than repair
Well the first ASOS job was pretty much a disaster, the event I was shooting it at was really empty, nowhere near enough people to fill the quota of shots they wanted.
The girl from ASOS who was supposed to be assisting in finding people to get shots of just sat in a corner on her phone for 30 mins and then left, so I was left to wander around this club of 30 people, 12 of which were girls, 6 of which were "stylish" (they only wanted shots of girls), and 3 of them refused to have their photo taken, 1 of them quite rudely and made a big deal out of it.
I had to leave earlyish to go to another booking - had another 2 clubs to shoot that night. This was already agreed with ASOS but I'm sure if I'd stayed till later I'd have been able to get the shots they wanted.
All in all, they wanted 15-20 full length shots of stylish girls from this event, I got 3 "stylish", 6 not so stylish and 2 guys. I know none of this was really my fault but I feel like I've majorly fucked this opportunity up and they won't be hiring me again, which is a real annoyance as its such a big client. I'm not even really happy with the shots I got either, don't think they were that good at all.
I'm wondering if I should say in the email to them that the girl they sent to assist me did absolutely nothing and left really early, however I'm worried it might look like I'm trying to place the blame on somebody else
I'm wondering if I should say in the email to them that the girl they sent to assist me did absolutely nothing and left really early, however I'm worried it might look like I'm trying to place the blame on somebody else
Could maybe ask them if she was properly instructed on what to do. I think that suggests that something was wrong and doesn't blame her.
bloody hell that sucks
yeah, would be better if you could maybe try and say that perhaps there's been some sort of miscommunication about what exactly was supposed to happen (then they can figure out themselves if there was, or if she was just being incompetent)
basically as long as it looks more like you want to work with them to fix any issues rather than to place blame on anyone, just gotta word it right
Could maybe ask them if she was properly instructed on what to do. I think that suggests that something was wrong and doesn't blame her.
She was CC'ed on all the emails I was sent briefing me on the booking, she would know just as much if not more than I did about what was supposed to happen
if she understood she was hired to assist you but just sat around on her phone before leaving, it sounds like she's just in on the job for an easy fistful of dollars and needs booting asap
I would be honest and tell my contractor what happened. I'd also be honest about your results, if you're not that statisfied then say so but do elaborate why and what you were hoping to come back with. It just seems more professional than saying the party was a bust and your assistant bailed on you 30 minutes in.
Mate, if the club was empty, the club was empty. Not your fault, you're not the promoter.
[editline]11th May 2014[/editline]
Definitely need to email them about what happened, including that the assistant was of little/no use. Regardless of that though, if the club is empty what are you supposed to do?
You could dress yourself in drag, and put the cam on a tripod, then walk around and press the remote randomly and act like you're surprised.
