Yeah but having the flash that high above the lens in a close up environment like a club would give you really uneven flash coverage

Let me give you the short version -- Macbook Pro says that it has an update available, I ignore it for the time being, as I'm working on photos. Cut to, this morning, I open it up, start working, and it is unbelievably slow. So, I decide to restart it. While it's restarting, I visit the Fortress of Solitude. I get back, and my computer is...off. So I turn it on. The startup chime sounds and then, lo and behold, the little bar that pops up when it's updating pops up. It gets halfway and then...shuts down. I've been trying all day to get the thing to work. :(

Try holding alt when its turning on and keep holding it until a menu pops up, then boot into recovery and see if that works
sounds like a failed update. try recovery and resetting smc/pram (worth a shot)
From there either see if you can restore from a time machine backup, if not you'll probably have to reinstall osx
also make sure its plugged in the whole time

I tried repairing the disk...that didn't work, and now I'm trying the Time Machine thingy...we'll see. :/
Time machine should fix it providing you have a previous version available before the update, you can then try to update again but you may have the same problem and have to do it all over again. Google around a bit and see if you can find out what might be causing it to prevent it from happening again next time you try to update
Well, I've tried everything. The Time Machine thing won't show any backups or anything, and Disk Repair says that it can't repair the disk and that I should backup my files and format the disk. :/
