[QUOTE=codenamecueball;46276625]i really want an instant camera that uses fp100c type film (or any kind of instant camera really) but that gives me control over depth of field etc but not a polaroid back since it's not filling the frame? is this a stupid request?
[editline]19th October 2014[/editline]
fuck it i'm an f-stop junkie and i just want to take shallow depth of field instant snaps. i'm bored of deep dof ones. is that bad. yes. please help my horrible condition[/QUOTE]
that one which andy warhol used

A Mamiya Press with a polaroid back will fill an entire FP100c frame.
My girlfriend has one with a 100mm f/2.8, it will certainly do the job you require.
fukken freelancing man taxes are gay.
Also my younger brother bought an x100 the other day. Mad jelly.
Low DoF is overrated by gear nuts who need an excuse for the fastest lens and looks impressive to beginners.
It has its uses but it's overused as a crutch to easily remove the subject from everything else, would be more interesting to have a decent background.
/opinion.
I know some people love the aesthetics of bokeh and that in itself is objectively artistic.
I think it can be good at a wide angle for a subtle isolation while not destroying backgrounds.
Our eyes have a shallow depth of field in dimmer lighting conditions, I think it can make a photo feel more natural.
Sometimes it's unavoidable when u have to open up in the dark.
Of course, but opening up in the dark is a technical limitation anyway. I know it has its uses, like when a busy background is unavoidable.

i knew this would come, but the main problem i have with shooting instant film is that i can't isolate my subject, even if i want to. also indoors it looks so much nicer (imo)
[editline]20th October 2014[/editline]
fun fact: the majority of my stuff is shot at f/2 not because i am a junkie (i could get my fix at f/3.5, even f/5.6) but because my camera crashes half the time because the lens is fucked and hates stopping down. i
So I'm not sure if this is necessarily the right place to post this, so please let me know if it's not. And if you know where would be the right place to post it, please let me know that, too!
I recently started doing some volunteer work with an animal rescue as a photographer for their adoption events. I'm borrowing my parents old Olympus E-1 DSLR, it's a nice enough camera that I can point and shoot with. The lighting isn't perfect and since the animals like to move around a bunch, my photos are coming in at low exposure (because I'm not even a hobby photographer, I usually set it to automatic shutter OR aperture, not both [at the recommendation of a friend]). Now, I can work decently well with Photoshop, so I can get the exposure back up to where it needs to be. The only question is is that can I automate that process (since I just hit the auto button for the exposure anyways)? I can be taking hundreds of photos in the few hours that the event goes on. I'm shooting raws, so I have to import the photos into photoshop and it has a dialogue box and all, but that doesn't work in automating a script.
Use lightroom, you can save your changes to photos as 'develop' presets and select a batch of photos to apply the same settings. It will also keep your hundreds of RAWs organized for quick and easy access.

I always felt like I never got enough bokeh on APS-C, and now I feel the same way on FF honestly lol. I guess I need to take pictures more close up or something
Fuji's got a 16mm f/1.4 coming out some time soon, if I win the lottery I'm snapping that up right away.
Would be really cool to go wide and still have a little bit of blur in the background.

So after some cursory poking around... is LightRoom its own product and program to install, or is it a web thing, or what?

Or about $10 per month renting it on Adobe Creative Cloud.

My 24mm f1.4 is one of the reasons I wanted to go full frame. My issue is that on the a850 it's hard to focus, and on the a7r it's ridiculously large
thinking about the zeiss 24mm f2, but then I lose a stop :(
just gotta suck it up and live large

if lightroom mobile was on android I'd probably pay for the subscription tbh
would be great to get home from a job, chill out and sort through the images on my tablet for editing later instead of having to be at my desk for the whole process

How's manual focusing with it? I was thinking of getting that 24mm some time, along with a speed booster.
I'd have to manual focus, but it would have more light (you gain a stop with the speed booster) and shallower DoF than the Fuji 16mm 1.4.

It's pretty easy, as at f1.4 you've got some leeway because of being so wide anyway. On the a850 I can nail it most of the time. At mid to long distances it can be tough because the scale goes from infinity to 3m, when realistically the slightest turn can make several feet of distance at that point (and it's not easily visible in the finder).
On the a7r though the distance scale becomes useless as the adapter isn't perfect in actual flange distance (something an LA-EA3 or 4 would solve) so that's annoying too. Focus peaking is great though, but ergonomics are still much better fit for the a850 which is where I prefer to use it.
Speed boosters also kill distance scales, which mostly sucks because then you have no infinity stop for night photos. I'd go with the 16mm 1.4, just because the size is the biggest turnoff about the lens for me along with lack of autofocus. Contrast detect AF would be ideal for a bright wide, where slight focus misses make a big difference. Optically though the 24mm is tremendously good, best wide angle lens I've used by a big margin

this is actually p/ relaxing to watch, thanks rob~
I think if I'd tried to do that on the first few days of being one handed it would have taken me at least double the time, my hand is dexterous as fuck now. I type with all five fingers quite fluidly now too which is cool.
you type with one hand, fast? the hell?
just been asked what I would charge to shoot a 4 day wedding in spain, all expenses covered
uhhhhhhhh
[editline]20th October 2014[/editline]
think I can bring an assistant/2nd shooter too
who's down
fucking hell nice one
seriously though how much do you even charge for something like this
out there for 4 days, shooting for a day and a half
I mean a normal 1 day wedding is like what £1000? so for a day and a half £1500, plus I'm missing other jobs by being out there for 4 days so at like £150 a night
£2000 maybe? but its also in spain so does that make it more or less
[editline]20th October 2014[/editline]
even then £2000 is relatively cheap for a wedding for 4 days in spain
maybe 3000? idk
£2500
[editline]20th October 2014[/editline]
Or ask them what their budget is

i'd be up for it but don't want to fuck it up/impose on you
I asked what their budget was and he said
"Just come back with a quote, it works best that way"
no it doesnt
In that case mate you have to decide how much you think your time is worth. Go with what you think you are worth.
