So a film I've been working on for 2 months was screened publicly to an audience of 100+ yesterday in the Glasgow Film Theatre. First time anything I've done has been shown on a big screen, it was amazing. Here it is, hope you enjoy it.
Had that band shoot on Saturday, it went ok. Kind of concerned I did the photos too generic, I was looking for something more professional looking to put under a "Client Work" tab on my Cargo.

Oh yeah ALSO found out last week about which of my photos I submitted to my school's art journal got in and I got this one in. I was kind of annoyed because I got four photos in last year and I felt this year's work was way stronger. I asked the english teacher who directs the art journal (the artworks are voted on by a committee) why my works weren't received as well this year and he said "Yeeaah, the brief this year was more leaning away from photos with people's faces in them, we don't think they are very artistic".

Was going to be Handheld camera operator at the local church today, I get in the production room and am greeted by this.

There's our video switcher, dead. Basically we cant switch between any of the cameras anymore and we had to do the entire day without any cameras. Hopefully there's a replacement soon
I wanna learn to use that stuff. Looks pretty nice for a church

That's pretty cool! One thing I didn't really like about your film was the performance of your actors. It's not necessarily, for a lack of better words, the the standard acting that's bothering me, it's the details that put me off. It's hard for me to explain as I am not experienced with the art of acting, but the expressions and the little stuff are the things that make me feel like I'm watching another one of those "Hey, this camera can film, let's grab a few friends and shoot something!"
Also, I think some of the camerashots don't really work with the emotions you are trying to convey in that particular shot or scene. Besides that, I find the image itself not very pleasant which is part lighting of the scene, part "typical compressed DSLR-footage".
Aside from these notes though, I do think you know how to tell a story and how to maintain a certain editing/story flow. If someone would give you an ARRI or RED, plus some decent lights and actors, you'd be able to pull of some very great short movies that would be interesting to watch story wise but also image and acting wise.

i'm not sure about your acting criticism, considering these people have been working on how to act for the past 4 years. however, they are mainly theatre actors and i can guess their performances might not be totally natural.
what particular scenes? yeah, the lighting is a fucking bitch, especially with the tight shot of val at the breakfast scene. we don't have access to any lights until next year, when I go to university. on both lighting and camera, you gotta make do with what you have.
that last wee bit is great, thank you.
appreciate it!

That was pretty awesome, the pacing and the way the story was told was perfect, as double d said.
The only things that bugged me were the acting did seem a bit off, the characters didn't really seem to have their own personality, its like they were given the script and performed it word for word without any of their own emotions, if that makes any sense.
Also, the change in the volume of static noise between cuts was quite noticeable in some parts which was a bit distracting.
Otherwise it was really good, camerawork was nice and fit the scenes well, grading was perfect

i only discovered how to denoise in audacity 2 hours before the render had to be put in, and even then i couldn't figure out chains so i patched doing a denoise. it wasn't as bad as it was before, i tried to pull it down.
thanks though, appreciate it!
I was gonna go get that film developed... But I accidentally stepped on my mom's laptop so now I have to pay to get it repaired. I now have -$30 to my name.
Oops. Now I have to wait longer to see how crap they turn out.

Does the church have a business of recording stuff there and selling it?
No not really, there are recordings of special guests you can buy though. All that's pretty much used for the live church service
that is insane
That's where your collection bin money goes

Week Ending – June 23
Weekly YTD
Budget $575,000 $14,375,000
Actual $604,270 $16,182,373
$29,270 $1,807,373
$575,000 a week budget for a community church, that is insane.
They must give one hell of a Sunday morning service.
Does anyone know where I could get a technical drawing of the pentax k-mount (camera side, not lens). Even better would be a dwg or even an obj file. Looking to start a project and I need to create something that allows pentax lenses to be attached.

Alot of the money goes to giving food to food pantries, running a complete food pantry/clothes/car repair service (in house) for the lower class, money for major disasters, and the operations of multiple churches. But yeah it's quite a lot

Close, I just wish it had the exact measurements. I guess I could measure the diameter of the mount and figure it out from there.
Thanks though, this will help.
Going to be taking pictures of my sisters wedding on the 28th.
A bit nervous

Just remember to bring your camera
I've found doing wedding photography is difficult without a camera
As long as you bring your phone with instagram you got it covered.
Take a few shots then fill up on cake and wine.
So, I just got this message on Flickr yesterday:
"Subject: we love your photography
Date: 25th June, 2013
Hey Ed
I'm a graphic designer at Public. we're designing graphics for a sales conference for a natural nutrition company.
Part of our branding and messaging involves building a narrative around a healthy and happy lifestyle. We're hoping to create a very authentic and human story with the photography we use, capturing moments of life in progress, something much more real and true than what we can find from stock sources.
After raiding our own family albums, we turned to Flickr, to see what we could find in our community! That's when we came across the following photos in your photo stream:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinquast/7954588494/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinquast/6840010404/
We're hoping that you would be willing to license these images for the conference. We have a $200 budget per image.
If you're willing, please e-mail us or call us, and we can give you more details of the client, event, and usage. We'll be making our final photo edit by next week so we'll check in with you over the next couple of days. Please let us know if you prefer us NOT to contact you again but we really hope that we can connect.
Thank you!

I don't know what to make of it. It doesn't look like a spam/scam message, but I haven't had the chance to look at their website since it runs on flash, and I only have access to my ipad at the moment.
Any thoughts guys??
I'd be very happy with 200 bucks an image...
But what would licensing them out mean?
