director should listen to you man, if you think youd get better results from the house party then tell them that. if you feel weird about shooting with your cam then use uni kit 100%
Hoping that check will go in soon enough so I can finally get my first lens hnnnnnng
worried about camera in club
honestly I wouldn't worry, you're going to be completely sober and have a few people working with you and i assume you're using a shoulder rig etc with it too?
People don't spill drinks THAT much, especially not badly enough damage a camera. Most of the times I've had a drink spilt over my camera it was my own drink and it was just a few drops, easily brushed off, nothing that bad
I wouldn't worry about it
[editline]4th November 2014[/editline]
and it's happened a total of like 7 times
out of hundreds of club nights
and I was drunk for most of them
-kk-
someone on here said it far more eloquently ages ago but essentially getting the shot you want etc should be more important than worrying about your gear
Think I could get away with shooting events with an X-E2 and 18mm f2?

Whatchu gonna get?

Looking into getting the Canon 50mm 1.8 since its a pretty cheap lens and I want a break from using the 18-55 and my 55-250mm telephoto
Think I could get away with shooting events with an X-E2 and 18mm f2?
Depends what you mean by events
usual club night stuff (flash photos of people dancing and being drunk etc) you could do with any camera with manual settings and a popup flash
for stuff without flash it really depends on the lighting at the venue tbh, there are some venues I could have a camera with a7s levels of iso performance and all the L glass in the world and it would still look bad
I'm looking more and more into trying to break into shooting club nights, corporate events, etc, because working retail is awful. It was more a question of would they take me seriously with what looks like a large point and shoot, despite it having the same sensor and a better processor than a Nikon D7000.
I think we had this convo a few pages ago and I'd like to reiterate that I've always taken my camera to clubs/shows, and usually ending up blackout drunk more times than not. Not a single drip-of-drink, nick, or scratch to a camera - ever. My dignity however, not so much..
The risk is no more than what your gear would face during normal use. I'd say something is more likely to happen on a train platform.
Freak accidents can always happen, but there is little benefit to being worried about gear. It's not a faberge egg.
I brought my a7r to one thing and someone spilt beer on it, fortunately not on the lens but it sucked to clean. All the dials were sticky
And it was cheap beer too fuck that guy
Don't go to things where there are frat guys, they are messy and dumb

I found it difficult using 50mm on a crop body

Same, although just from quickly looking on B&H, there don't appear to be any similarly or even closely priced autofocusing 35mm lenses for canon, which seems odd.
[editline]asdfas[/editline]
maybe the cute 24mm pancake?
24mm pancake isn't going to be much better than the kit 18-55mm I'm sure, and only 1 stop faster and no IS. Kit lenses are really quite good at 24mm
Kit lenses are under-appreciated.

*especially Fuji's
my kit lens is nice

justified
I dont care if it was justified, go to your room!

for the price of a new nifty fifty you could get yourself a film SLR with the kit 50mm f/1.8 (yes 50's were kit lenses back then) a few rolls and you'll have leftovers for development cost.
the 50mm on crop is good for headshots but too narrow for practical use.
uni camera will not cut into the rest of the film without looking like shit.
main thing is i'm gonna be at iso 20,000 and it will look like complete bollocks. oh well, better do a camera test this week at tribe

You can get the old 90s version of the 35mm F/2 for fairly cheap second hand but still nowhere near as cheap as the 50 1.8
35 f/2 is a cracker

Defo being my next purchase
stop talking 35mm f/2 pls i missed a great deal on a zuiko, rip my balls

And most recently a Contax 85mm f1.4 for $300
i missed out on a £15 trip 35 and instead had to buy a £21 one : (
Just discovered how useful it is using Raw instead of Jpeg. Seems a lot clearer when post processing images
