What I'm personally worried about is that the photography school is not going to teach you much new. The only thing they can really teach you is how to sell yourself and your products.
So think about it if there really is much gain in starting a photography course or if it might be better to start a course that's also part of visual arts but something you have not started learning yet.
Also also, ask the people who are interviewing you to show them their portfolio. If they refuse or make up excuses then IMO you shouldn't take them that seriously.

Don't forget some of the (IMO) best photographers did not go to photography school.
ps I took a graphic design course even though I really aspired to do a photography course, but so far I don't have any regrets with my choice.
If you go to the right art school half of the importance of being there is not what you learn from teachers, but what you learn from being in such a creative and diverse environment of other photographers. I could compare this to my high school environment (top local private school), in which all the students regularly assisted and inspired academic excellence in each other, resulting in better learning for everyone.
In addition to this having a completed photography degree on your CV (as with any degree) shows that can apply yourself to something arduous and long term and that you are serious about this career.

Got the stuff out of the way but still inside. Decided it needed to come out completely. Bent the shutter out of whack when I finally got the bit out.
Literally kill me.
went to school to study photography, was shit and a waste of time
went to uni to study film, didn't like it, switched to photography, course was 1 lecture a week for £9000 a year (lol u avin a giggle m8)
quit uni and now im a full time photographer
[editline]11th November 2014[/editline]
earning enough to move out of my parents house and support myself solely on what I make from photography
it can be done
Im currently studying photography at AS level in college. Its teaching me a lot about photography, and gives me a little inspiration everytime we do research on various other photographers. It helps, the only thing I do not enjoy however is the majority of the people in my class dont even take a interest into the subject, they find it more of a doss about lesson then anything.
I've had this bit of advice from a favourite photographer bookmarked for about 2 years now, finally feel like I'm living up to this final line:

im at a2 at the moment, however photography wasn't an option here (northern ireland)
ive ended up doing computing, moving image arts and art & design. i wish i hadn't done two arts but i don't think i would have passed anything else
moving image arts is piss easy, but it teaches you almost nothing about filmmaking. however the courses i was offered were actually pretty good

im bummed out about how little i did in a whole year, and how fast it went by
Overall I think I had a good year photographically. Didn't push too many boundaries but I got some cool shots
i just meant in general
i gotta pump up my summers
I've done a ton of things over the past year when I think about it.
hopefully my 50mm will come tomorrow in the posttttt
i love my job
obviously not pui

i went to that interview yesterday and the two teachers just sat there looking bored as fuck and they both kept yawning.
assholes really
so they did not give any critique or comments on your work?
so they did not give any critique or comments on your work?
nope, they spend 15 seconds flicking through my carefully selected photos and asked a few questions that they had written down.
they just wanted to get it over so that they could go home
yeah you shouldn't bother with those type of 'teachers'
what about following a workshop? maybe there's an advance workshop photography nearby your location? I find that workshops offer more help on an individual level plus you get to meet other photographers and discuss your and their work.

it came today, loving the bokeh and it makes my portraits look great, just gotta get used to that focus ring. feels really really weird
yeah MK II focus ring is botch, if you want manual focus lens get a vintage 50mm *cough* zuiko *coug*. adapter rings are like 5 quid online
shooting boy better know tomorrow with a friend, anyone got any advice for hiphop/grime photography in a studio? more the lighting than poses and angles etc...
want the lighting to look sick haha :)

Don't manual focus with it, not worth it
Might try and do a photo a day. Not sure it's worth it since it would have to be with my phone since my camera is back home.
What are your guys' opinions on using phones? Not for like stellar images, just for like quick little snapshots for a daily thing. Worth it? I already record at least 5 seconds of video every day that I remember to.
Also really want to get my SLR back from my high school and try shooting some film.

made this today in lightroom as part of something i want to write about for uni, I just wondered if any of you guys had any comments on the photo's what you like/dislike and if you like the layout of the document. i know the photo's will probably load fairly slowly i didn't optimise it at all.

Like all the photos. Not a big fan of the book thing, but I like the layout of the photos in it. I think you could maybe take the full image on the first page and make it a half page image with another photo.
Don't manual focus with it, not worth it
Yeah it seems like all the shots I have taken with it in manual seem a little off, thanks for the advice though.

Just do it man.
'The best camera is the one you have with you'
Go for it. Maybe most of them will be shit. But some of them won't, and they make it worth it in the end. Go watch some of Protog challenges on digitalrev for some inspiration I guess.
If you haven't seen Interstellar yet, go see it. I went in knowing next to nothing about the movie and was absolutely blown away. Incredibly daring and ambitious, huge scale and gives the right nods to its parents.
Sitting in Schiphol airport waiting to travel back home.

Worst wifi on earth as far as I've been

Seeing it tonight.
Sadly not the 70 or 35mm print, just regular digital 4k.
