ss b [editline]4th January 2015[/editline] oh my god the lil nuke explosion gif flickr does when u remove something from a batch on flickr
Its just as annoying when your trying to add photos to various groups, half way through it just bugs out and you have to just keep refreshing the page. its a pain in the ass
I have tons of steam games but since getting my editing setup I hate PC gaming because I'd rather be editing while I'm sitting at the computer Just can never get in the mood to play while on a computer
A few months back I posted I think in here looking for help with optimizing and automating photo editing and got Lightroom at the suggestion of a few members. I really appreciate that help and I'd like some tips on my photography and editing. Currently I volunteer with a rabbit rescue and take photos of their adoption events on the weekends. I'm working in less than ideal conditions that are out of my control (in a PetSmart store), along with dealing with both white and black furs. I'm trying to edit them without blowing out the whites or crunching the blacks. I've got it down semi-decently, but some of the rabbits are giving me extra trouble with editing. Anything I should be doing, looking out for, etc.? At the same time, I've noticed I'm having a lot of trouble using manual focus in order to get good photos. I'll be looking through the viewfinder and it seems to be at the best focus (which can be hard to get considering they're moving regularly), but when I put them through Lightroom, they're just out of focus. Any tips for getting good, manual focus? If it's needed, I'm using an old Olympus E-1 and I've only recently been using it at a level above "point and shoot".
PM or post a RAW and I will try and help build you a preset that works well. For the different fur colors, remember your camera exposure meter is still trying to reach 18% black, so for the black furs under expose slightly (-0.3EV), and whites overexpose slightly (+0.3EV). This should give them a bit more natural of a look, but maybe alter the over and under a bit with experimentation. Biggest help you could get for photographing them would be a flash. Having a flash that lets you bounce will make the lighting much better, and should cause the photos to have a bit more even lighting and be easier to edit. As far as manual focusing goes, with the E-1 I wouldn't try doing it through the viewfinder. Unless you have it very well diopter and are using a fast lens, it's going to be difficult to get it spot on. Let the camera AF system do its work, and try messing with the AF points and using them individually where you need if possible. This should give more reliable results, especially for a moving subject (use AF-C too)
i dont really have time for games anymore but since ive been on holiday ive played a bit of csgo and the cheap games i got on steam sale. i would still join a steam group though.

For now, though, I'll just say that I'm not even a hobby photographer at best and most of these terms and things to do either flew completely over my head or I just don't know what they are/how to achieve them. As for a flash, I believe either ours is broken or the link for it on the camera is broken. Either way, we don't have a functioning flash. And beyond that, with as skittish as rabbits can be, I think a flash may be a bad idea, especially in a pet store setting, as it could pretty easily spook them. Either way, thank you for the help so far, I really appreciate it!

This is slightly on-topic for this thread... but wasn't sure where else to post it. I think my new Tokina 11-16mm is decentred. Would you guys mind having a look at this image and telling me what you think? The top half seems way out of focus and everything else is pretty sharp. 16mm f4.5. Check out the full-res here http://we.tl/RQ8RuIcTRr It's completely unedited. Pretty gutted, bought it 6 weeks ago but haven't had much chance to use it. Do I have a case for a refund?
Great shot, and yeah, something isn't right. Did you get it from ebay or a regular shop? If it's ebay and it didn't mention this in the description you might have a case, but you definitely should be able to take it back to a regular shop because it's a fault that's arisen through faulty goods and not wear and tear.
Thanks! I bought it from Hdewcameras.com I've emailed them and attached the photo, but I wont hear back until tomorrow. It doesn't seem to be 100% consistent, I cant see it in every photo. Which is annoying. I've also examined the body but I can't see anything wrong with it. I did have a nifty fifty 1.8 get stuck on the body, and it may have got damaged when trying to remove it. I think I'm gonna have to do a bunch of tests to try and figure it out.
You've got to test it at infinity distance. Manually focus on the left side of the frame, stop down to F8, and then take a photo. Do the same for the right side. If you are getting wildly inconsistent results between the two then you've definitely got some decentering. I have had a few lenses with it, so if you post I should be able to tell (also I am mad pixel peeper). I'll check your photos from the last page when I get a chance.

It's hosted on puush so it'll be dead in about a month. Here's what I ended up with compared to what was shot. I just sent it through Lightroom and did an auto-exposure and auto white balance: [t]http://puu.sh/e4UMB/28b532225d.jpg[/t] As for everything else.... right now I have it on shutter priority shooting. I get crazy confused when trying to do it full manual with figuring out f-stops and shutter speed and all the numbers just get my head in a jumble. I've also noticed that setting it to aperture priority tends to give me a really slow shutter speed and means that for holding the camera, it tends to get blurry. Maybe I'm just using it wrong. Probably. I talked to my dad about the flash for our camera and he said that the hot shoe one the flash is what's broken. The connection on the camera is fine. The rest of the flash should be fine. So we either need to fix the hot shoe or get a new flash. I never did touch on the focus. For the most part I use continuous focus (I'm going to assume that's AF-C). Sometimes I'll swap to single focus because it's annoying to refocus to the same distance for every shot when they're in the same spot (resting or the like). The times I go to manual focus are for when the auto focus just can't find something to focus on. Especially considering sometimes I'm trying to shoot through the wire exercise pens. It has a lot of trouble with the darker furred rabbits as well, given the lighting.
don't bother going full manual, use P mode. if you're getting slow shutter speeds in aperture priority mode you need to use a higher ISO
good god going sober for a month is going to be hard had a staff party tonight with loads of expensive champagne everywhere being given out, then a house party after and the whole time I just was just super boring and uninteresting gonna become "that guy in the corner who was on his phone the whole night"

Just keep it light and try and be a little sociable. I'm not a drinker myself, so I can say with confidence the more drunk other people get the wilder you can get away with acting [editline]4th January 2015[/editline] Oh and biodude, it sounds like you need a lens with a wider aperture. What lens are you currently using?

Also just checked my bank for the first time in a few weeks and it's probably best I work as much as I can this month, thought I had waaaay more money than I have
Oh and biodude, it sounds like you need a lens with a wider aperture. What lens are you currently using?
The front of the lens says "Zuiko Digital 14-54mm 1:2,8-3,5". I believe it's the lens that came with the camera.
Haven't been able to check peoples photos on here since mid december due to an internet access issue and have just finished sifting through everything. Top notch work guys, seriously good stuff.

Got to shoot and develop my first roll of film today using a Canon 650, it was great fun, cant wait to finish the process tomorrow morning.

You can bounce it vertically and it would not disturb the rabbits much if at all, and would make your photos much brighter initially, and therefore easier to edit

Thank you all for your help and advice, I'll try to do what I can and get back with you all after this weekend's upcoming event.
good luck with it!
