can you meter using a dslr for say, a super 8 camera?
should work just fine, just try to use somewhat similar lenses (e.g. a prime on the dslr if the other camera is using a prime) since different lenses have different amounts of glass in them, and more glass = less transmittance (f/4 on a prime vs f/4 on a zoom will require slightly different exposure times)

to be fair when i say slight difference, it's about a third of a stop or so at most, so you might as well meter with the dslr, then just use those settings also, i found it to be easier to set the dslr metering to centre-weighted average and look at the meter settings in the viewfinder, rather than use the histogram, but that's just me

That sounds fun I'd like to do that Though I'm sure whatever first person things I would do would end up like peep show

finally got round to installing f.lux sure hasn't solved me staying up all night, but at least my eyes don't feel dead!
i have it running now i don't think it's working for me i just feel very orange and when photos pop up they look awful
it is very orange isn't it but for some reason the feeling of orange warmth actually made me smile when it first came on
finally got round to installing f.lux sure hasn't solved me staying up all night, but at least my eyes don't feel dead!
surely this can't be good for color balancing
You can turn it off but still then idk it just feels like orange or something Life is orange
like yeh cya l8r wite balens
And it just goes over your existing WB so it's like extra fucked
you can alter the night time temperature. i keep mine at 4800k and after a while i hardly even care. but im not exactly spending a lot of time in lightroom/whatever so i can understand why it wouldn't really be worth it.
I usually keep my WB on auto in camera and edit it later on my computer.
f.lux is good for me i have it set to 4600K and to come in nice and slowly so i notice it, but it doesn't bug me
surely this can't be good for color balancing
oh yeah it's awful for that, but when it's 4 in the morning i should be in bed and not editing photos :v:
Haha, this is going to sound really lame, but does anyone know some good Google+ accounts to follow for photography tips and creative photography for inspiration? I already follow Trey Ratcliff who's stuff I really dig, but anyone know of anything?
moved into a new flat recently; it's fairly high up in the building, and my window faces another roof and it's also right in the city centre, so there's a fuckton of seagulls right outside my window all the time i sleep with the window open with my head right next to the window, and they always have a big screaming match in the middle of the night one time i woke up at about 4 or 5 in the morning, but i was only half awake, so for about 5 minutes i was lying there absolutely terrified and confused because i thought there were giant flying dinosaurs outside swarming around the building and screaming and wanting to eat me
I want a RED camera just because http://vimeo.com/71666317

Those surfing shots look like they were filmed with film because of the dynamic range. At like 1000 ISO the grain looks like film grain, incredible.
6K resolution translates to over 19 MP, packing the same detail you expect from your DSLR into a cinema camera. When you can capture up to 100 frames per second at full resolution, you get 100 chances per second to capture the perfect picture. Every still is raw and Adobe Photoshop compatible, which means your workflow doesn’t need to change—even if technology does. The RED DRAGON sensor blurs the line between motion and still cameras, giving you the best of both worlds.
100FPS 19MP RAWs. wow
I think it'll mean a considerable jump in the quality of digitally recorded movies. Always though a lot of digital movies weren't very good looking.
