Venice is amazing, have fun!
Theres lots of awesome street art, and you should definitely go to the glass blowing island, the water bus can take you there.
Its one of the best places to take pictures ever.
Welcome to my home. A cabin in the woods you could say, haha;

Cheers mate, I'll be sure to check it out! I'm gonna be shooting video whilst I'm there too which a friend is going to edit, sort of a joint videographic venture.
so i'm currently directing a movie called cops and lollipops 3. it's a sequel to these movies my friends and i made in 8th grade and i felt like making a third one for some reason. i wanted the trailer to make it look very serious but it's going to be a dumb youtube comedy
this is the trailer (don't know how to embed vimeo, youtube claimed copyright on the song)

did you shoot at 24/25fps?
at 2:01 you misspelled lollipops :x
at 2:01 you misspelled lollipops :x
Lol oh well ;(
did you shoot at 24/25fps?
60fps
60fps
for a more cinematic look shoot 24 or 25 at 1/50th or 1/48 if you can

I will for the actual thing, I just did 60 for slow motion (edited in windows movie maker because my computer sucks lol) but could only slow by 0.5x not 0.4x so it was basically 30fps. I have no ND though and it's mostly going to be shot in the day so I already foresee problems in that regard

1/50th is essential to get the right motion blur
I've spent most of today editing this video together.
It's the first time I've tried editing video in about a decade, but I promised a whole bunch of people from the bar I'd do it for them, so pulled my finger out of my ass and got to it today.
I think I could have done better if I'd spent a bit more time on it, but whatever, I'm pretty happy with the results, and it's certainly enthused me to shoot more video.
I chose that song, because the owner loves it, and he used to play it at the end of every night when we was kicking everyone out... Everyone except for the people he allowed to stick around for a lock-in ;)

Fuck I love that bar.
Yeah I know, but can't really do it so I'm probably just going to do 60p for slow mo and 60i otherwise (cam doesn't have 30p). In the time frame I can't get an ND so I'm not goin to worry about it really, at 30p the shutter speed is a little less important I've noticed. I'd rather just make it than worry about the details, it's mostly a joke movie in the first place (just a bit of fun with my friend before he moves away for university in Washington)
This is the original so the bar isn't set too high

It was longer than that.
Every young boy should have long hair, the gradual shortening of it is a process tied closely with becoming a man.
Confirmed for going on a trip to Pompeji in September.
We'll be searching wall structures with radar and seismic.
That also means I have full access to pretty much all of Pompeji.
Expect pictures.

That's sick mate. Sounds really interesting and a lot of fun.
What's it for? And can you explain a little more about what it will involve?
But watch yourself in gmf dude.
You're tame around these photography parts. Keep it that way ;)
It's a project we are doing for the Italians, I don't know which agency it is but basically big parts of Pompeji are not uncovered yet and they don't want to risk excavating before they know where stuff is.
So we are using hammer blow seismic( it's literally done by blowing a hammer to the ground) much like

to see where the ash stops and radar to see wall structures.
This was planned for May this year but due to the Italian government going full retard over the whole Berlusconi deal we didn't get any digging license(even though we don't dig, we are "looking into the earth" and that's apparently the same according to authorities) until now.
It's part of my Masters Degree in Geophysics, we have to do 14 days of field trips each semester.
Next year I'll go on a boat to the antarctic!

They're driving a porsche with a massive boom mounted on the roof. It's probably safe to say they have insurance anyway. :v:
Been hired as a club photographer and I start tomorrow night. No kit provided but the bloke said my lumix g2 will suffice on it own, pffft low light performance on that body is weeeeak so we shall see what happens

Just get a strobe for it, should be more than adequate for club stuff. Something you can bounce preferably
I like using my flash, but my friends hate me for it!
What do i do?
flash your friends

I've been shooting parties for two years now and I can say my general rule of thumb is:
Shutter: 1/4 (waggle the camera around with lights and people in the background to give it a ~loose~ vibe, people love it)
Aperture: f/4 (gives you focus leniency as they may move a little bit)
ISO: 200 (change this depending on how powerful your flash is)
Flash setting: midway, with bounce card and diffuser, cocked at 45˚ upward (gives you leniency to go back or forward fractions of stops depending on if you're shooting close up subjects (singles/couples) or far away subjects (groups), the diffuser-bouncecard-upwardangle thing makes the light from the flash softer and friendlier to skin tones).
Hope this helps in any way.

this is bookmark worthy advice no joke
also you might change your aperture depending on your sensor size, you can go a bit wider and still have a deep enough DoF for focus leniency. probs f2.8 but more realistically f3.2 can be your min in this case.
I've also been doing clubs for around 2 years now and I generally use:
Shutter: 1" to 1/30 depending on if I want any light streaks etc
Aperture: F4 simply because I can't go any lower with a 24-105
ISO: 1000, to get a lot more background light into the image than just the light from the flash
Flash: 45-60 degrees, bounce card up, diffuser over the top, I shoot at 1/16 power pretty much all the time
It's pretty foolproof as the only setting that ever really needs changing is the shutter depending on the club lighting. Also use a 35 and 50 1.4 to get low light shots of the venue etc.
Some club photographers use off camera flash but it's really not that much different and not worth the effort imo
Pretty much exactly what The Salmon said but thought I'd chip in.
also don't have too many free drinks or you will inevitably test the vodka-sealing quality of your camera
