You wanna know what I can borrow from my school in terms of camera's? Fucking Nikon D60's with 18-55mm NON-VR kitlenses :suicide: I'm happy I have decent equipment myself already otherwise you are basicly fucked with assignments there.
Once I ended [Hannah Montana], I thought I might go to NYU or something and study photography. Or to Savannah – they've got a really good school in Savannah. I love photography. I have a Canon 5D. I want to co-direct something soon. When they're saying "Change this lens to this millimeter," I want to know what they're talking about.
http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/miley-cyrus-on-why-she-loves-weed-went-wild-at-the-vmas-and-much-more-20130927
That sounds about the level of students in my university honestly In my 200 level photo classes (3 different ones) they had to review what shutter speed, ISO, and aperture were and most students didn't know what aperture did by the end of the classes
Doing photography for university is a bit of a joke. Sorry
Shot my first wedding today - went ace

Because I can tell you first hand it takes a lovely photo.
good kit is always a plus but for the most part any kit is good kit if you're good concept>kit

They can make good photos, but still they should maybe get something a little more current

I would rather a university have a fleet of 5 year old cameras than 5 cameras from this year that everybody is queueing up for to borrow.
Not sure what we have here. I know our live broadcasting cameras for sports and what not, are old ones from the 80s or something. Not sure about our photography department at all.

At my uni it's not many cameras and they aren't any good, kind of a bummer
Hey, I don't know much about photography myself, But I found a new 'Olympus sz-12' for about 60 bucks. I know it's not a fancy dslr like you guys have but could I get some decent pictures out of it?
ye
I'm not saying the Nikon D60 is a bad camera. Your iPhone also isn't a bad camera. I just expected something better from this university.
pity
it's not unusual to expect more than a d60 for £9,000 a year
they'd probably expect you to have your own camera with their ones being backup
To be honest it motivates you to earn some money and buy your own camera.
I'd expect having a camera to be part of the necessary things to take the class. In the same was it's expected to have a computer, TI calc (£100+), and writing materials for other some degrees.

Like having a DSLR makes sense, but our school's rental program is ridiculous. They have 4 cameras (two D3100's and two 60D's), you can only have them for one day, and if you have it any longer it's $35 a day in fees. The whole combination is mind boggling to me.
you should start your own camera rental business and undercut them
A camera rental business sounds like a good way to make a quick buck. You just need the large amount of initial investment, as always.
at that price you could probably sub-rent cameras anyway to make the initial investment smaller
Today I learned to make sure my lens was clean before spending 5 or 6 hours taking pictures, yay [editline]29th September 2013[/editline] Not a clue why it hasn't been a problem until now
