You need to 'cut your teeth' on cheaper gear before you jump to something like that. You need to play with different types of 'entry level' lenses before you commit to such a big purchase. I'm simply being honest and trying to help you.
Sorry I put up the wrong link http://www.pentaximaging.com/camera-lenses/smc_PENTAX_DA_10-17mm_F3.5-4.5_ED_(IF)_Fish-Eye
Perhaps you could look at some second hand K-Mount lenses? For landscapes I doubt the manual focus will be too much of a hindrance, and the money you save will be in the hundreds. In review of your IndieGoGo campaign, you are are basically saying to people: "Hey, give me money, that you took time you would otherwise spend enjoying yourself to earn, so I can enjoy myself for free" At least offer SOME incentives to your backers like personalised thank you messages, wallpaper sized photos from your trip, etc. It is ethically unjust to ask for money for nothing in return simply because you want some luxuries for your trip. [editline]26th March 2013[/editline] get a job
Damn you're right, well i've taken that into consideration, it does seem unjust but what exactly is the difference between a luxury and essential tool/lens i need to achieve something I can't with one of which I own? [editline]26th March 2013[/editline] I've applied for atleast 30, no luck yet!
what exactly is the difference between a luxury and essential tool/lens i want to achieve something I can't with one of which I own?
fixed [editline]26th March 2013[/editline] You're living, breathing, clothed, and fed, have internet, and are going on a trip to NZ. And to top it off Salmon brought up a great point, what do you intend to return back to the sponsors?
Owning a camera is considered luxury, so really can't consider 1 more lens any more luxurious than having a camera itself. Yes, not everyone get's to go on a holiday but I wan't to bring back something good and what I can use. And, well depends, I can write a thank you letter, send them images they wan't but there's really not alot when you're unemployed and finding it difficult to find a job, I haven't even heard back from supermarkets i've applied for. But i'd be happy to do a free photo-shoot for anyone local.
The way the world works is that you give to get, nothing is 'owed' to you. That's an attitude problem that will only serve to hold you back. How old are you? I think you need to be a little more realistic about things, only then will your situation actually improve.
You're going off the assumption that I wasn't going to at least thank them personally in the first place. Again what can I honestly give other than what Salmon said? I have no money, best I can do is send a print or something. There's projects on there that have $10,000 for a film, and the best thing they give away is a damn autographed script from people nobody knows. http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/nick-s-photography/x/2792477 Look again, that's all I can honestly offer, unless you have any better ideas?

There is no end goal to your fundraising. I would personally offer a collection of twenty photographs from your trip that are well produced and thought out printed on 4x6" photo paper and put them in a hand folded and stapled A5 booklet that you cover in butcher's paper and draw a nice design on (doesn't have to be flash, just the title and your name neatly printed in sharpie is a nice personal touch). Costs: ~$0.8 in prints from Big W ~$1 per booklet (cardboard, paper and butcher's paper, assuming you have none of this at home) ~$0.1-2 postage in an envelope Seeing as you are unemployed I'm sure you can find the time to put together these booklets and mail them out, you could smash it all out in a day if you pull your head out of your entitled arse.
Well i've given up on the idea of expecting anyone to help me, I took it down.

Try not to be so negative about it. You have potential. Just give yourself some time to grow. Keep on keeping on - if you really want to. ;)
While on the topic of IndieGoGo, any opinions: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/slowflowtion-capturing-natures-miracle/x/988924
Doing my cousin's senior pictures on Saturday, unsure about lighting so I'm bringing an off camera flash and my wireless adapter so I can fire it remotely from a tripod. But I'm worried about the sync speed on my a77 only being 1/250, seems way too slow for daylight shooting and getting an isolating aperture. Hopefully I won't have to use it, I don't have any ND filters, the best I have is a polarizer but it doesn't fit any of the lenses I would be using on the a77. And the flash only fires at full power so I'll put some paper over it to diffuse and lower strength. But bringing my a77 with a 50mm 1.7 (in case of needed flash), the 70-210mm f4 (good isolation), and the 16-50mm 2.8 (in case I need wider than 50mm). Then if lighting is good I will use my nex 5 with the 55mm 1.2 because it renders portraits really nicely. Haven't done portraits in a while I'm nervous ;(
Got myself a 650D recently, here's a random shot I took the day after I bought it, basically just randomly caught that moment, incidentally that guy was just crossing the street before the bus arrived, but it looks kinda like he's running for the ambulance (conveniently parked outside the chinese fast food pickup with hazard lights and the other guy having picked up the food :v:) [editline]29th March 2013[/editline] Proof:
Got to meet Joe McNally today, he is pure awesome.
http://bopie.com/
Nice website. Mind explaining what you're trying to convey with it? I'm getting a Chinese vibe. [editline]1st April 2013[/editline] Sold a lens on ebay (10-20mm), the buyer claims he had his paypal and ebay "hacked" and didn't buy them himself. According to the buyer, the address I shipped to isn't his. Sounds shady since if I was going to buy some ebay items from someone's hacked ebay to sell off again, I wouldn't buy a specialist lenses, I'd get an iPad or something that will sell quick and easy without questions. Also quite strange was how he said he didn't order these things himself just as the mail tracking says they arrived, I was in contact with the buyer a few times before shipping the item too. Sounds like this guy just wanted a lens and took it. Advice? Paypal are "investigating" it. I'll go to the police if nothing happens, but should Paypal's seller protection cover this?

[editline]2nd April 2013[/editline] If you've got the money then I think the only thing you can do is wait for paypal to do their thing and hopefully not give it back to the guy or close your account or anything.

I'm hoping they didn't just think I tried to scam the buyer.
The money is gone, Paypal balance is £0.00. I'm hoping they didn't just think I tried to scam the buyer.
aw fuck contact the police, at least just ask them if anything can be done by them, since this guy has basically stolen your lens
The money is gone, Paypal balance is £0.00. I'm hoping they didn't just think I tried to scam the buyer.
Sounds kinda shady to me. The address you sent it to, google it and see if the buyer was dumb enough to actually order it to his address. If it isn't his name check if you can find the name of the people living there and try to see if you can find them on facebook and check if they are friends with the buyer. If this is the case collect everything, make screenshots and send it to Paypal. Stalking people on the internet 101 :eng101:
The money is gone, Paypal balance is £0.00. I'm hoping they didn't just think I tried to scam the buyer.
Does the case actually show as resolved on paypal? I know sometimes paypal will hold the money from either party until it's resolved.
