I'm looking to get away from Nikon and go Sony. The reason being... I've had the same lenses for the Nikon for god knows how long and I have better Minolta lenses.
Current nikon dslr + lenses: D70, Tamron 70-300 shit-tier lens, 50mm f1.8 (camera has odd amounts of noise, even when shooting .NEF)
Want Sony: A700, Minolta lenses (I have) 28-85 Kit, 28mm f2.8, loads of extras and everything I'd ever need for it.
If anyone wants to trade, I'd be really down, or know anyone who doesn't want their sony A700.
canons have better video features generally but what kind of video are we talking about? like short movies and that kind of stuff or just taking videos of sports games?
@green bandit
That's like the first things I did. But colors look like they are spray painted on.
dwt110Mostly videos of sports. Exactly like this:

I'd check the website dyxum, make a few posts there and go to the want to buy section and make a post there about one, they will have good prices.

yeah a nikon or canon will both be basically the same for just taking normal videos of things

Yup, Canon and Nikon are at each other's teeth in competition so they basically offer exactly the same things but with a different logo on the camera.

I'd give the slight edge though to Nikon for stills bodies, but the slight edge for canon as a video device. However cameras from both brands should be able to work well in both areas.
This whole time I thought my camera (7D) was messed up b/c it would stop shooting consecutively after around 8 shots.
Figured out that my automatic noise reduc. thingy was on high, which causes the buffering to start earlier.
Woops. lol
wow
showing off that your buffer actually has room for 8 shots
:'(

Thanks man, looks like I'll go for the d7000. Any recommendations on a good zoom lense? My budget is $300. something that goes farther than 200mm
I think you will be more satisfied if you buy new glass instead of a new body.
But buying both at the same time would be nice.
Edit: Because if you are going to go for a D7000 (Which is around $600-$700 I think?) + having a budget of $300 for new glass
you would be able to get yourself a nice telephoto that you'll probably be sticking with for awhile.
Although I'm not sure if there are good telephotos from Nikon around $1000. But I think if you're willing to spend 200 - 300 more you'll be able to get a Sigma 70-200 F/2.8.
But I've never shot with a sigma so I'm unsure of the quality. But i'm sure you'll get cleaner shots of paintballers compared to a 55-250.

I've thought about buying new glass. But I shoot a lot of action photography, my d3100 is pretty slow to focus, and because of that, I have to throw away a lot of pics that could have been great if they were in focus.

D7000 and a Tamron 70-300 VC. You should be able to find one used for under that, I paid $260 for mine, but otherwise they are $450 with a $100 mail in rebate and thats with a 5 year warranty which is nice.
[editline]13th January 2014[/editline]
here is to give you an idea of about how fast the tamron runs through the focus range on a D5200, so it should be the same on a D7000

Thanks guys I appreciate it <3

Okay, that's true.
My old D90 still had more dynamic range than Canon bodies on the same line coming out 5 years later.
I miss my D90.
I wish I didn't need to sell it to afford a new camera. Probably would have put it on my shelf as a reminder.
do you guys thinks its worth it to insure my camera gear even if im not a "pro" by any means? and if yes, what are some good companies to do that through. we are talking like $1500+ of equipment
I would say so, see if you can insure on your parents homeowner's plan. I have $2500 worth of stuff and it's about $50 a year

The 7DMK2's specs are released?

Parents' homeowners all tha way. I made a PDF documenting everything that would be a pain to lose and had my dad forward it to his guy. Pictures, values, and serial numbers.
my father refuses to put anything i own on house insurance because he wants to keep his no claims discount :(
whats the point in having insurance if you never use it
whats the point in having insurance if you never use it
sadly in some countries you are required by law to have insurance even if you don't want to.
this piece of advice from a photographer i love has been ringing in my ears lately
And if you aren’t bummed out on what you did last year, you aren’t pushing yourself or growing enough.
as in, if you like what you did a year ago then you're not trying hard enough?
am i understanding it right?
I took it as 'don't get comfortable.'
I kind of took that quote in a different way. Instead I thought of
"I'm bummed out of what I didn't do last year."
What is this method called?

little world
this kid I sit next to in science heard me talking about cameras and photography and he says he has a "really nice pro camera with a 1000mm pro lens"
aka a t3/1100d(?) with a 500mm f/8 bower which is a 1000mm f/16 with the teleconverter
is vsco cool?
it looks kinda cool and kinda like cheating
