Can I get some advice on if I'm using proper camera settings? I know these shots aren't exactly art
Thanks guys, just got into photography by picking up the family camera (finepix s1500)

just tell me how the light looks, can I fix most of this stuff after the shots been taken? How do I get it right first? Camera limitations? I feel like I'm seeing a lot more grain on my own pictures than other peoples.
This is a great start. Embrace the limitations of your camera, develop creative ways of making better looking pictures. However, don't get caught up in photo 'quality' that is gear dependent, focus on making strong, interesting pictures ~ you can't polish a turd ~

let's have a meetup shall we
exposure looks alright overall, grain is a camera limitation
Thank you. Okay I was worried the grain was from me improperly using ISO. I try and keep it under 400.

Thank you aswell! I will keep that in mind I just took a photography class at my local community college so I'm worried a little my camera won't hold up seeing all those other guys walking in with DSLRs with removable lenses. You make me feel better then. I'll be back to post some strong interesting pictures.
Facepunch is da bes.

I feel like this subforum is one of the most tight knit if not the most tight knit group I've seen on the internet
we got each others backs boi
[editline]21st January 2014[/editline]
feel like i'm light years ahead of some people from the awareness this subforum has given me and the ability to handle crit it has banged into me over the years
I made a friend on Sunday at an exhibition, purely because of my camera. I saw a guy infront had an XE-2 slung around his shoulder, queuing to get in he turns around looks at me and says "is that a fuji? woah I had the X100!" we had a cool chat about that and he gave me some tips, recommending the wide angle adaptor and praising the XE-2. Turns out he is a filmmaker and is interested in studying a part time masters in photography at my uni. I know just the guy he needs to speak to so yeah, awesome!
I've had people compliment me on my camera set up (7D + 35MM F/2) and had small talks with people who are also into photography.
I've also had some other guy imply that rebels are crap (said "That's not a rebel is it?" in a pretty condescending tone.) But after I said it's a 7D he said he liked it and said "that's what the pros use!"
Didn't know how to feel about that convo. lol
i dont think theres enough people in the world that i can split the petrol with to get to london
if anyone comes san fran way tho, give me a holla

the cashier at safeway asked me if my a7 was a old film camera
i was so stoked that he made that mistake, that means that more people will think its just a old film camera and therefore much less valuable (aka thieves)

I never had a convo with someone about photography randomly on the streets, maybe people asking what I was doing but never due to gear!

I live in London so I have no problems meeting up, one maybe two would be welcome to stay as well. Just let me know in good time. People assume fujis with the OVF are old style cameras, for the exact same reason about thieves but as well as subjects staying relaxed!

Hoho. As if they care.
yeah id imagine a really clean retro looking camera probably looks just as valuable to a thief as a new looking mirrorless or SLR
just got a full time job at a gym today! going to be working 40 hours a week 11am-7pm in addition to my photo editing, so i'll be quite busy. gotta save up some money to spend while i'm in london, hoping to get an a7 before i go as well.
as a consequence though i might have to cancel my 365, i just don't see it working well with my work schedule. i'll try it out for a bit though before deciding for sure.
You could take your Nex because it's tiny and take pictures of people you meet in the gym (asking them, of course).
You could do you 365 and get some nice snapshots to put up around the gym.
buy a polaroid big shot and put it down your pants when working at the gym
whip it out in the changing rooms and get the peoples reactions

that sounds like such a sick idea for a photo series like the end of gran torino when he pulls out his lighter instead of a gun except you do it with a camera and hopefully dont get shot to death
