gee id love those specs, if my POS old macbook pro can deal with 35mb raw files you should be able to deal with 600d stuff on that

if you're looking for an upgrade, i'd suggest changing out your mobo/processor/ram.
i can't find a socket 775 mobo that can handle DDR3 (that's if you want DDR3).
but at the same time, the C2Q is a great damn processor. my brother was running on one for close to six years before he ever upgraded his build. i don't see why your hardware is really restricting you in terms of photo editing, but if you're also a gamer, that's an entirely different story. i'd suggest getting the DSLR.

still need an SSD, maybe another HDD, and MAYBE 8gb more of ram. ;c

Well i am a gamer and i like to get the most fps possible but i was planning on getting 16gb of DDR3 RAM and a 3rd Generation i7+Fitting 1155 Mobo
But i can still play my games on that rig i can get upgrades at the end of the year probz
(i wouldnt of considered switching the graphics card anyways)

any reason of 1155 over 1150? trying to save some coin?
I'd buy a used 7D instead of the 600D, unless you have a particular reason for needing the flippy screen.

Yes the increase of performance between a 4th and 3rd Gen i7 isnt to big so yeah trying to save the coin. (I might get a 3770K because i like to overclock shit and since K models are better for that i chose one)

well, if you're going with a K series processor, make sure your mobo has the Z77 chipset. no point in overclocking if your mobo wont allow it.
:c

i also only have like 75 or 80 gigs free on the HDD

should I buy 8gb of ram?

honestly, why are you asking us this? it's your needs, not ours
get 8gb if you need 8gb. we can't tell if you do or not
i understand that running multiple applications will be faster but does more RAM make my photos process/videos render faster or does my shitty processor still hold my computer back?
that would be more related to your processor mate. editing a ton of photos at once would be better with more ram though
blah, id rather just use the money on something that I need more like a camera bag and hope that my laptop dies soon so I have an excuse to get a new one.
although both my sisters used their plastic macbooks for at least 5 or 6 years before they got new ones, I have had my computer for like just over 3.
[QUOTE=.Lain;43659868]that would be more related to your processor mate. editing a ton of photos at once would be better with more ram though[/QUOTE]
if it's in photoshop and such, it also depends on the graphics card, since photoshop uses GPU acceleration for stuff when it can
more ram does help if you're doing edits to a huge image with the brush tool or content aware patch tool or something (basically when photoshop has to create history steps which are copies of the whole image minus the latest change)
i have 4gb as well and i have found that when i use photoshop it ends up using the virtual memory most of the time (i.e. uses the hard drive for stuff it should be using the ram for)
[editline]25th January 2014[/editline]
lightroom is a bit of a different story though when it comes to how it does edit history, since it only stores what the changes are, rather than a copy of the image
[editline]25th January 2014[/editline]
also depending on what you use for video rendering, the renderer is probably also using the GPU for most of the computation

tl;dr from personal experience 4gb is not that much, 8 would be nice to have (for me anyway)
I was editing on my netbook with 2GB RAM and now my new PC has 16GB and there is quite a difference. Stuff loads instantly, when before it would take processing and a lot of virtual memory space. Lightroom is still slow for some adjustments (white balance mostly) but I'm sure my better processor and GFX card help quite a bit too
scratch disks are full
oh no, i think one of my hard drives has died some days ago and i didn't even notice till just now :(
Have any of you folks tried [url=http://www.jottacloud.com/]Jottacloud?[/url]
I find it to be a very good solution for backing up photography, as it offers infinite storage space for $6 a month.

I applied for this alternative program for the last 2 years of high school where the stuff you learn is more hands on and applies to the real world, and the classes are very small like 10-15 kids. For both junior and senior years you get to do an internship at the end of the year so maybe if I get into the program I will be able to do something photography/filmmaking related. The entire program size including juniors and seniors is only 55 kids, and I would say like 40-60 kids just in my grade applied, so heres to hoping I am one of the 25 or 30 that get in.

Was going for a trip with two friends to a frozen lake in the local mountains, and on the way there we met these guys on god damn bicycles hahaha
[editline]25th January 2014[/editline]
I need to get myself one of those bikes.
For some reason my photo's got 2500 views on flickr yesterday totally out of the blue, Kinda confused but happy at the same time

On the topic of specs, do you lightroom users notice a big boost in performance on new hardware? My 2010 mid mbp with base specs was similar to my i7 4770k desktop in terms of performance which I found disappointing. Its pretty usable but not instant like I would expect, handling 16mp raws on each.

How do you find these stats on the new flickr? I get directed to a page that doesn't exist!
