i feel like my ability to take decent photographs is actually going backwards over time
i'd suggest buying a new lens, body, or something.
after i bought this 30, everything feels refreshed. i feel like i'm working in a new space entirely.
then again, i have been working with just a 50 on crop for like the last two years.
i don't feel limited by my gear even relatively, my d3200 already has good noise performance/video and my kit acts as a good wide angle, while my 50mm is quick; i have used plenty of other gear since i bought this stuff and i don't feel the need to upgrade for another while yet., especially when i'm saving for a car :z
i think i just need to set myself a goal of some kind.
look at more photographs
broaden ur horizons
have hobbies outside of photography
^all those things
[editline]8th February 2014[/editline]
i kinda feel like my technical knowledge of photography waaaay outweighs any knowledge of it as an art form, especially other people's contributions to it
anybody up for recommending some people's stuff to look at?
all of my sd cards decided to simultaneously break
what the fuck

trying to take inspiration as much as possible, i'm never done looking at the stuff you guys and many other people post
i'm an artist as well as a photographer, but i'm hitting the same wall there too :(
anybody up for recommending some people's stuff to look at?
Read up on wikipedia articles for art movements. When something sounds good, start googling the artists that get mentioned.
thanx, will try
Think I'm hooked on photography. I'm taking 4-5 hour walks each day just photographing. Feels good mang.
Photography is one of my healthier addictions.
Much healthier than Guitar Hero
and competitive eating.

I don't know, maybe eating more is healthier than eating less.

Don't overdo or underdo it.
I'm really bad at eating, but lately I've been eating more.
I weigh like 50 kilos.
just realized i accidentally left my image size to longest side of 800 pixels when i exported my last 14 flickr uploads
should I go back and fix it then reupload? normally I do 2048 longest side
Why not upload in full resolution?
saves space on my computer because the full sizes are like 20-40mb and the 2048 ones are plenty big and like 3-5mb
also saves time processing the actual images since my computer is also a hunk of shite for processing photos
Decided to practice shooting long exposures of the night sky, with some troubling results.
(Zoomed in of course)

What's up with the red/blue dots? There's a few of them about the image.

What are these? There's quite a few.
I'm far from knowledgeable about cameras and photography, but is something wrong with my sensor?
hot pixels, they are normal
hot pixels, they are normal
Both the cross and the red/blue blobs?
Also, is there any risk to doing very long exposures (for star trails etc)? It can't "burn out" your sensor or anything, can it?

no
[editline]10th February 2014[/editline]
try shining a laser pointer at your sensor tho
nah, the only risk you should watch out with is exposing your sensor to very bright lights such as a laser. If you're shooting star trails you're using low ISO anyways.

ah so that's why it never worked, thanks
is there a filter to stop this from happening? like something to diffuse the light from hitting the sensor so hard? seems like something that would be veeeeery useful

anti moire ones?
I'm amazed I haven't killed my 6D sensor yet, I've been shooting into lasers at clubs and concerts several days a week for months now, never had anything happen. I think maybe it's only something that tends to happen in live view/video mode? As the sensor is constantly on and uncovered opposed to only 1/60+ of a second when taking photos.
You'd probably think it's because the laser hasn't hit the sensor at the exact same time it's active, but I've got tonnes of ruined shots with the laser just completely blowing out the shot, so it's definitely hitting it at the same time. So from experience I wouldn't worry about it too much if you're doing photos
googled it, seems quite useful - it looked like it got rid of a lot of aberration. Would it stop the laser from damaging the sensor?
[editline]10th February 2014[/editline]
swear the 7D focuses like 10cm closer than it should, half my photos are slightly out of focus
really not getting on with this body
I think maybe it's only something that tends to happen in live view/video mode?
Bingo! ;)
If you gonna do videography or shoot in live view then you better ask the light technician if there's any lasers and which area they cover.
long exposures make ur sensor heat up and fuck up noise performance for a few min afterwards esp if u've got the screen on
Maybe that's why long exposures of the Aurora Borealis always look so clean, because it's usually extremely cold outside.
i swear everytime I go to clean my laptop I see "oh wow I have 60gb free and a 250gb drive? I certainly dont have that much stuff I need/use/want, so I guess I will go delete the stuff I dont use"
every fucking time I end up deleting like 2 or 3gb of stuff max and thats all I can find, I see that my harddrive says I have 40gb of videos and 90gb of "other" but I can only ever find like 2 or 3gb of video, yet alone 90gb of "other". I wish I could see the top 25 largest files on my hard drive or something and that would make it easier. My photography folder is only 9gb
[editline]10th February 2014[/editline]
now I am at like 80gb free after deleting a ton of stuff from my downloads and some old old old videos but that still isnt great
i want to say I am in need of a new computer but I really am not. both my sisters went 5 or 6 years with their first macs before they broke and they had the old plastic macbooks, i have the pro 13" mid 2010 and I have only had it for just over 3 years.
