It's bothering the shit out of me because I can't remember the name of the documentary. Does anyone remember seeing a trailer for a documentary that said (I think) was shot solely on film?
Well, what is it about?
Samsara maybe?
Aw yeah, my mum just won a Samsung Galaxy S3
Nice one, be careful though, my old S3 got dropped from pocket height onto a wooden floor and smashed so hard there were splinters of glass that came off the phone.

Enjoy the building site.
It'll probs be gone by the time you get there in Sept, and it'll be a nice refurb of the campus.
You just missed out on getting put in an A+ campus though, the Craighouse one.

What's the student union like? As in, does it do anything?
And ooft, that looks quality. I think I'll be spending a lot of time in the screen academy facilities though.
PMed ya.
Just managed to bag myself 3 Pentax's on eBay for about £46, $70 in wild western money. An ME, a K1000 and a Spotmatic. Stoked for these to arrive
iPhone 4S fell in the toilet god dammit, I wasn't even using it, I put it on a towel and it slid off and plop into the shitter

That happened to me, but it was an iPod and it was my brother's. He still thinks he lost it. It's been 3 years.
This final stretch of school is unfortunately slow. I really want it to be summer :(
can't wait for exams to be done so i can summer all over the place
Mine's going waaayy too fast! Got a fortnight to finish all my coursework and I'm absolutely shitting myself. Good thing I've only got one exam to revise for! Got three new SLR bodies on the way, buying a new skateboard next payday and planning a trip to Venice with my girlfriend; summer is gonna be trill.
Thinking of going back to the Outlet Center tomorrow. I'm pretty happy with most of the few shots I took there last time.
Depends what time I wake up, since I have to walk, and cross a busy road where there's lots of idiot drivers. :v:
Fixed and cleaned another brownie from my "big ole box of broken cameras" I got a few weeks back.

Had a guest talker today at uni, his name was Chris Floyd
http://www.chrisfloyd.com/
He had a pretty sick history of how he started photography and who he got to shoot for his first real job as it (oasis)
He's taken photos of Paul McCartney, Dr.Dre, David Bowie
was pretty sick, was such a nice guy as well.
I've been working on a manifesto for my photography coursework, just kind a sum up of my views on photography.
The field of photography is littered with hollow artists who believe that possessing the knowledge on how to make a camera take a photograph is knowledge enough to accredit themselves with being an artist or photographer. A technical understanding of how even the most complex of camera systems work does not justify a self-belief that you have any creative vision at all; after all, I could know how to put a brush in paint and then brush to paper but that doesn’t instantaneously award me with being a great painter. I believe this distorted view many bestow upon themselves originates from the fact that creating an image with a modern camera that reflects exactly what is physically in front of the person is one of the easiest things anyone can do. To capture a moment that not only reflects the physicalities of the view before the person but also captivates the entire scenario to create an image that evokes emotion and engages the mind is something that cannot be taught, only understood.
It is called vision.
Having the mental capacity to understand the concepts of why a photograph is good and then use this understanding to better yourself creatively. Vision is what enables artists to conceive an idea and execute it in a thoughtful manner. Vision is what makes any piece of art justifiable when scrutinised. If vision, concept or introspective analysis are not present throughout the entire duration of the creative process then the credibility of artists and their what they have created is questionable. Regardless of the method or instruments used, there has to be a why.
Thoughts?
im pretty sure most photographers, professional or not, can create a good photo without "concept or introspective analysis throughout the entire duration of the creative process"
what you've managed to do with that manifesto is prove right all the people who think all photogs are pretentious long word and obtuse phrase fetishists
you've tried to be too clever, the brush to paint analogy is good and bits of the first paragraph are pretty good too but overall?
They probably could yes, but they would apply the ideas behind good composition and decide whether or not a photograph was good or not before finalising their shot; concept and introspective analysis.
But other than that, cheers for the input :)
i get what you're trying to do, but you've made the whole process seem incredibly slow and long whereas in real life its waaay more fluid and fast

It seems a bit pretentious
Thanks for the feedback guys, this is just a first draft so I just went all out on it and extended my vocabulary to its fullest. If it needs to be reworded and rephrased then I shall do just that:)
It's called an artist's statement. Do some research on what established 'artists' have written in the past.
The only people that call it pretentious are the ones that aren't fluent in 'art-speak' - 95% of the time such statements are honest and genuine. It's just a different world.
For prospective art students it's sort of a 'college essay' and is usually required. Being able to articulate yourself 'pretentiously' can genuinely help you reach a higher audience - even if it seems like a load of shit.
[editline]26th April 2013[/editline]
As for you specifically, talk less about what other people are doing, and more about what it is you're into.
You can read mine if you'd like. It's a bit embarrassing and very old, but apparently it made the cut with ~flying colors~ in the 'fine art world'.
I've been looking into the origins of Futurism, Dada and Bauhaus; they offer great reading and pose interesting ideas. When writing it I always thought that if I want to portray myself as an artistic mind through creative writing then the text should reflect that - also I just enjoy writing creatively about art and my opinions on it.
i'm guessing this is because i'm not exactly great at editing colours right but i can't seem to get any portra scans to look the way i want them to (or as good as other people manage to make them look)
gaahhhh

post a scan and see what people can do.

I could never bring myself to write something like this, I feel hugely cringy and uncomfortable even thinking about it.
Why can't people just do what they do and not write bullshit like this explaining what they do
[editline]27th April 2013[/editline]
(not saying your thing is bullshit, I mean in general)
