It's really nerve racking posting images in the creative photography thread because i feel really amateur compared to a lot of the people here like desuh, bopie, zeemlapje and trogdon especially since i'm really new to the whole editing thing
We all started somewhere, it's not like my first posts here were that amazing [editline]12th March 2014[/editline]
two people on flickr just went through and fave'd every photo i have of someone smoking http://www.flickr.com/photos/47310898@N04
I (my mate) fell victim as well

Just think, if you just started lifting weights at a gym you're not going to be able to lift the same as the huge meat head across the room yet and the only way to get on his level is to lift and stick with it. ~analogical inspiration
Thanks for all the encouraging words, guys. I'll do my best!

i just lost 2500 photos dating back to 2012 :( [editline]12th March 2014[/editline] i feel like crying
i just lost 2500 photos dating back to 2012 :( [editline]12th March 2014[/editline] i feel like crying
My photographs are backed up to two different drives on my PC. I also have two external drives that I rotate every week, with one locked up at uni just in case my house burns down. Sometimes I feel like I'm being too paranoid but then I read shit like this and get chills.
i keep my photos on an external hdd but i don't really care if i lose them much because i have original size copies on flickr. i don't really go back and edit old photos so w/e
i barely keep my photos, once they're edited/uploaded, they're gone if something happens to them. i don't really worry about losing photos.
For those of you in the UK, just came across this on iPlayer: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b03xsjb9/photographing-africa I haven't seen it yet, but will defo be watching it over the next few days.
I'm watching this now and finding it almost unbearable. But learning a lot, about how I want to be, but also how I do not want to be. [editline]13th March 2014[/editline] (but he's using a Pentax 67) [editline]13th March 2014[/editline] (however, I'm still watching and finding myself grinning with joy like a maniac)
I biked to my parents house from uni today because I wanted to see my dogs, 40 mile trip there and then a train journey home. Weather was stellar too, great day. Also, Im about to watch that pick - I sent the link to a uni mate and he thoroughly enjoyed it so I'm excited!

6x7 will get you a lot more film area (42cm vs 27cm area), but 645 is a lot cheaper to shoot because equipment is cheaper and you get more shots per roll. i did a write up a bit if you want to check it out, might have some helpful info http://austintrothphoto.tumblr.com/post/77826143662/making-sense-of-medium-format
this guy was not happy about the cam pointed at him driving-snapping is geat when u can grab a cam out of the cup-holder and just point it at whatever
I like snapping while being a passenger, I need a zoom lens though I just can't frame correctly otherwise [editline]13th March 2014[/editline] That guy looks like he wants to kill you
I wish I could turn invisible with my camera. So I could even take pictures of peoples faces with flash without them noticing. I often see interesting people or interesting situations and am just too scared to take a picture because I am too afraid of their reaction. It's really frustrating especially when I get inspired after looking at great street photographs.
shoot IR film with IR flash :P
That horrible feeling when you're biking somewhere and cycle from 2-3 excellent photo opportunities..

I feel like I'm cheating when I use presets in VSCO. Is it? I've been done most of my edits on my own but sometimes I use VSCO and just choose a filter I like.
Is it?
it's a tool, just like anything else is using a certain film for the colours you know it will give you cheating too? [editline]14th March 2014[/editline] with digital or film, you're creating your own interpretation of the medium's interpretation of the original scene, what matters is whether or not you got the look you wanted to get
it's a tool, just like anything else is using a certain film for the colours you know it will give you cheating too?
Good point. But I feel like I should know first how to get pictures to look like the filters on my own.
if you recreate the look of the filters, you're basically just wasting time you could have spent on editing other photos, or doing something else entirely i normally play around with vsco presets, find one that approximates what i want to get, then change it around; it's way quicker than starting from zero
