i like your synths! they've got a lot of weight behind them, especially at 0.42. nice track! sounds really nice with the rapping, reminds me of I Am Legion. maybe it's just the neuro sound combined with rapping, i don't know. but same here as your other track, i really like your synths, they've been improved a lot. in response to your neurofunk, i will give you neurofunk in return
You know, I've never heard of neurofunk till now, but boy, you've gotten me into it! Good work on the track!
I really really dig this. It reminds me of a less abstract version of The Bug. It could be a bit longer, but for what it is it's dope. I actually did most of this song about 6 months ago when I still used synths (I've moved almost entirely to sampling now), and I don't remember why, but I just sort of dropped it. Yesterday when I came home from work I decided for whatever reason to finish it. Interesting fact: The main melody is actually what happened when I took the other main sound from the synth out of the playlist. Why? Because BioHazard is fucking strange.
Man, those fucking keys, I love that sound! You should send the patch to me if you still have it lying around! This is a deep house/future house track I've started work on! Been looking to expand my sound for a while so I've started producing this stuff along with some trap

also just finished my mixtape of beats and stuff, please check it out, you might like it http://soundcloud.com/jakecrizzle/sets/jakecrizzle

I like it though :) Went looking for some new vocal packs today and come across Samplephonic's Leo Wood Vocals Sessions. Started to muck around with it and this is the result. I would love to finish the track but I've hit writers block and need some more inspiration. I'm having big troubles getting the vocals in time as well :(

At the moment I think it's a bit empty because it's just the voice and the bassline. Near the end you have the synth that comes in, but maybe you can use it a bit earlier on? Maybe let it answer/interact with the vocals? ^ Tried to make something chiptune/acid-ish. Not very happy with it. Goddamn I miss my keyboard. It's so much easier to just jam and keep the good stuff instead of mucking about with a piano roll.
Midi drums, wanted to make some drum&bass but didn't want to use pre-made sample so I tried to do one myself. :)
Which drum soft did you use then? Or what tutorials, because I really like that sound. I used Superior Drummer, but even after weeks of work it still seems robotic to me, when yours are a lot more natural sounding.
Did you even read the title of the thread?
Oops, sorry. I thought this was like it was one year ago.
My microphone finally shipped in and I went pretty crazy recording every sound I could. Plan on cleaning this one up and expanding some more.
This is dope, I'd like to sample it if you don't mind

Actually sounds quite neat of an idea. I was only using NY Compression and a reverb on outside tracks

Spent the day working on this dance beat, instead of studying: I'm hoping I can turn it into a full song, but I'm pretty terrible with structuring songs to flow nicely. It sounds like a video game song and then suddenly turns more serious. Also 0:51 sounds a little flat for a few seconds, perhaps add something in there to give it a bit more depth.
Delay on drums? Actually sounds quite neat of an idea. I was only using NY Compression and a reverb on outside tracks
I mostly use it on overhead to get really big cymbals, snare works sometimes to get some cool ghostnotes going but that's the extent I use delay on drums. Distortion on kick & snare is really awesome, it can help create some big nice thump on the kick and give the snare a nice smack if you're after that sort of sound.
I'm pretty terrible at structuring flows too, but what I've found helpful is to study the artists that you like and see how they have done it. Then try to incorporate it to your music in a way that feels like it's your own. Wanted to try and do something with vocals, so I cooked this up. Now I'm facing a question... Vocals, how do you mix them?
Please read the thread rules, thanks.

sounds good, but your snare needs more oomph to it, it needs to sound sharper to really get that hype going i did 2 new recording tests recently, uploaded them only today because i dunno since this'll be the first time i'm doing music with actual instruments i want to get the recording stuff right before i start with making the actual music first is a lo-fi acoustic recording test, which is how i'm going to make the intro for the album the buzzing is too loud, gotta fix that, though second is another dronetest, i'm really happy with how this is side of the album is turning out i just have to figure out how to make my drones last longer now
Delay on drums? Actually sounds quite neat of an idea. I was only using NY Compression and a reverb on outside tracks
ping pong delay on hihats can be awesome.

Great work on the percussion, the panning works perfectly and the beat strongly drives the song. i know my vocals are very rough and not great sounding but I really wanted to do something w/ vocals and I couldn't find anyone to sing for me so... yeah here, please give me criticism. I wrote this a while ago, but I really want to continue it. here's another

damn, that's some really dense atmosphere you have going on there, no clue where it'd go or where it'd fit but i'm drowning in this song the vocals at the start and end are very good, very haunting and being slightly off-key gives it a great feel when there are multiple vocal tracks the solo vocals on the other hand, not a fan of and the lyrics (from what i can hear) sound a bit weird

sheesh, you're insanely good at building atmosphere, i'm getting really immersed in this track as well the production on both are fantastic and very easy on the ears with some great subtleties great stuff
the solo vocals on the other hand, not a fan of and the lyrics (from what i can hear) sound a bit weird
thank you for the criticism! the lyrics are pretty awful, I definitely agree with that. I've never done solo vocals before, so I obviously have to improve on that thanks again!

I dig the atmosphere in this a lot. The little reversy bits when the melody comes in are rad. Here's a tune I started yesterday. Not mixed down yet really. https://soundcloud.com/sonis/coffee-steam/s-Be133

https://soundcloud.com/sonis/coffee-steam/s-Be133
this song made my ears rumble really interesting progression throughout the song. I definitely wasn't left bored or uninterested. the synth at 2:06 is cool, just a bit too loud at the point especially after such a loud bit right before it. I know it goes into a bit that's loud as well, but maybe make that quieter part build up more into that? also, at 3:13 and on until the next part was quiet static in progression. it really scared the shit out of me when the chorus part came back in. maybe give the listener a bit of a warning before doing that, like a reversed cymbal or white noise buildup? cool song overall! really nice production.

Volume roughness is because of this part :P
Not mixed down yet really.
Haven't really spent much time at all on transitions either so there's no sweeps or anything yet. Pretty much been sound design/melody/general progression work so far :)
Yeah I never spend enough time on drums. Does anyone know any good tutorials to make drums sound organic? Also layering...
The biggest thing is finding hits that sound like they fit together from the get go. For really getting organic sounds it helps a ton if you can find a few samples that sound similar but not exactly the same for things like woodblocks and cymbals. You can alternate between them to add more of an organic feel than you'll ever get with basic things like velocity adjustments (although that's important too). Getting comfortable with moving hits off the grid and learning when/where to do that goes a long way too. And, if you want organic from a timbre perspective, not a sequencing perspective. Go find as many old funk breaks as you can and take the hits out of them or chop them up.
