But yeah, interesting stuff in this thread. Keeps me inspired and wanting to make new stuff. Like this new thing:

C&C always welcome.
i like this, it reminds me of the neotokyo OST. really chill and electronic but the percussion is nice and nuanced so it keeps it from sounding simple while still being a bit minimalist/subtle. the synthwork is really nice, not just the melody but the patches themselves really match the "mood" of the track for me. the distant vocal/choir sample in the beginning sets the tone for the track really well and the little glitch/reverse stabs you throw in are a great touch (when you quickly reverse the track before continuing). the ending piano is a good close too, this track is dope

this is so chillllll. im rarely "in to" dance tracks like this but this is def my style. idk what it is about them but any track with those nice bouncy synths gets me. i think it feels a bit "hollow" though, like there needs to be bits in it (preferably making them take up the majority of the track) that are just really energetic and noisy. the whole track feels like buildups and noise fade-outs without any big explosion of sound imbetween, if that makes sense
hello here is an experimental track i worked on last month but got bored and decided not to finish please let me know if it sucks ass or not

I loved it when those vocal cuts came in! I don't know how synths are supposed to sound in experimental tracks, but I didn't like the main synth, that arp mario sounding thing was pretty cool though :D

What do people think of this so far?

no doubt this is Death Grips inspired! the main synth is a bit repetitive though.
It's good to see experimental stuff here!

yeah i def noticed that too. its a recurring problem with almost all my tracks honestly, i have trouble knowing how to break up a bit of the track without completely changing the sound. in my defense the track is a rap instrumental so normally theres a rapper there to go over the beat and keep the track from literally being a drum/synth loop but does anyone have advice for avoiding repetitive verses in an instrumental?
add and take away elements in verses, kraftwerk plays the same stuff in their verses but they add like quieter extra synths or a little more percussion
add and take away elements in verses, kraftwerk plays the same stuff in their verses but they add like quieter extra synths or a little more percussion
Pretty common thing to do, yeah
Take a talking heads approach - record a bunch of repetitive phrases and drop them in and out, sorta like what a hip hop producer might do

change the key for a couple verses
that's always fun
or just change how the melody is played, e.g putting some staccato on it.
or use alternate chord voicings
work in progress metal cover of Quad Machine/Gravity Well from Quake 2
now im just gonna record each track on real instruments
Also needs more blistering guitar solos
That's a cool idea! I would take a shot at it too, but now that you're doing it, I think I'll leave it to you.
Here's my new song that I finished yesterday!

This is great dude. I think the main synth could work throughout the song if you keep the notes but change the timbre over time. Make it get noiser and more lofi as time goes on, and put it more in the background (or do the reverse and make it all crap at teh start and get cleaner as the track gets fuller) and by the end it'll sound all like noisey and shit
A little hard on the ears perhaps, there is no bass guitar in yet.

Made something wierd.

Did you double track the rhythm guitar? The guitar tone is great, but it feels a bit powerless. The bass might fix that though.

Yes I tracked rhythm twice, panned hard left & right. Going to track bass tomorrow, I guarantee you'll see a difference. I'm a strict practitioner in high-passing my guitars so the bass guitar doesn't clash what-so-ever. I'll also side-chain compress some the transient instruments next time and hopefully get everything a little crisper and louder. Beyond that, I need finish the guitar solo, get a beginning to this song, and some more stuff following.

We're so close to being done with this song. We'll probably add a lead guitar in there, but we finally have (very quiet) vocals.
silver that was psick dude

Sounds really nice. I could definitely picture this in the ending of a movie. I'm not a massive fan of the electric guitar though. I think it sounds a lot better without.

Really rough so far.

nother experimental track tell me why its shit
experimenting more with sampling and composition, effects and things like that. idk lately ive been doing a lot of little "mini songs" just to help me figure out what i like and what i can do better and stuff but this one ended up turning into af ull track so

p sweet if a bit generic, would be interested in hearing a better recorded vers with higher vox
idk i wanna review this just to pitch in to the thread but idk what to say about this lol

its pretty cool but a bit boring
i like the lead synth both for the buzzy sounding patch and the way the melody slings along, i v much like when it kinda 'peaks' on that high note, just sounds so crisp and cool in comparison to the other notes. the layering of the 2nd synth is nice but the drum breakdown at the end is a bit bland, idk the track just kinda devolves into a generic dance/electronic track for me. it sounds neat but nothing id be like "wow i gotta hear that one again" if you get what i mean

Sounds cool but you totally ruined it with the "VMO ON THE TRACK" samples every 10 seconds

Made some progress since I last posted this here.
Also I still have no idea how to compress properly. The whole song is still pretty quiet, but you can hear the compression. If I make it any louder, then Cubase starts complaining about clipping.

I had to do that to prevent others from getting on it before my friend does. Sorry lol after my friend gets on it I'll put up a version without that.
I've been busy lately, but last night before going out drinking I made a song that I think sounds a bit like motörhead, and I hope you guys will enjoy it as well:
http://soundcloud.com/skriket/prettosexuell-motorhuv-2/s-Kxc1y
A long experimental piece coming up.
It would be great if you guys could give the whole thing a listen, since it's the last song to an album I'm working on. Please leave me some criticism, suggestions, etc!

the beginning bit is rather boring imo, i think it kinda falls into the "its experimental so it can be really ambient and abstract" trap, once it comes back around 4.30 i start to really like it especially when the distorted synths start sounding in the background, the vocal sample sets things off really well too. everything past 6.45 is so nice, makes me think of a sorta downtempo animal collective? probably an awful way to describe it but idk thats what it reminds me of i guess
the track as a whole is really nice and well done but it does bore me a bit. i suppose as a closing track if you mean for it to be more of an ambient exit for your album it makes sense, but its definitely not something id find myself coming back and listening to on purpose, if only for the fact that it feels too vaguely structured. idk i'm rambling and its probably just because im in a shit mood and i dont feel like "getting into" a rather depressing track but ye its well done
