[editline]27th November 2014[/editline] Here's an old track I decided to revisit, added some vocals where I sing some harmonies (hoping to get a friend of mine to sing it, she has more vocal experience and a voice I think fits the track better). It doesn't have much of a structure right now, I'm thinking of maybe rearranging it to follow some sort of verse-chorus structure, what do you guys think? Any help is very much appreciated! :)
Thanks for the feedback! The bit about the melody in my first track could work out quite well, I'll definitely be messing with some filters! I pretty much exclusively use vengeance samples for my kicks, but I never stop mixing and matching until I have a perfect sound. A lot of the time I will add one kick and cut out the high end and low-mids, then boost the low, and then on a second kick I'll just cut the low to low-mids which gives it that clicky sound. But cutting out a lot of low-mids in my kicks it lends room for a lot of the instrumental and snare to punch through. It also works really well with certain hi-hat samples. Same deal with snares, usually vengeance. I also have an array of shit I pull from free sample packs, but again, I use those less than half as much as the vengeance stuff. It's just a lot of trial and error, i've spent a lot of time lately just creating snares for my own personal library. Not always the case but a lot of the time I'll also pitch my snares up a few semitones. 5 semitones usually works well. As for the track you posted, I really dig the part around 0:14 where the hi hat filters up and back down, bringing the whole track into a low sweep. It's a really nice touch. The track feels very eerie and a lot of the things you have added to it really help highlight the eeriness of it. I dig the bassline, it allows the track to be a little repetitive but not in a way that it gets tiring or boring. Are you using a sample for your snare?

Some of the percussion could perhaps be a bit louder/cut through the mix more. Added more to my rock song, got lyrics and melody just need to record the vocals now:
DAWs / sequencers / drum machines. If your main focus is guitar or live instruments then let these tools aid you and not persuade you. Throw in something new to keep the listener guessing. The drums could use some OOMPH and if you want throw in an amen somewhere. Throw some compression and eq on that shit. Maybe try making the disto guitars wider with a delay or something. I dident notice at first. Might wanna raise those levels. Here are two songs That I made for a college project / shits and giggles. They massively overpower the strings, though, bringing the strings up would be very helpful. Harmony in the string part would be nice, too, a violin on the top would cut through the mix better than make it more interesting.
here's a thing i did
This is cool, I love the kick drum. Some of the sampled elements sound like they're very heavily side chained and I find it a bit offputting. I've taken the suggestions on the rock thing into account, how's this:
much better, has a sort of Doom vibe to it (as in the game, not the metal subgenre) it's a bit repetitive right now but that won't be a problem when you add the vocals to it

Are you using a sample for your snare?
Solid tips, I've never thought about downpitching snare actually, I've so far only used snares I've sampled myself! Glad you dig the bassline, it is actually four takes of bass I've recorded and then layered :) Two takes that plays almost identical riffs, then two separate takes with one an octave up, and the other an octave down. It's very hard to mix it properly because of just how much bass information there is, heh. Not a sample, I accidently only recorded two overheads and the bass drum, so most of the snap from the snare comes from selective gating! I've got the usual drumkit and a tambourine playing right now. I'm digging what you've done now (and if it isn't remixed in any way, then I guess I just had a bad day or something vOv) The guitar got really, really nice edge to it and the lead guitar lays perfectly, audible enough to be heard, gives it a very sexy vibe to it I think! Very dirty and raw. The kick has very nice tone and it doesn't clash with the bass guitar, I'm actually a fan of how trashy the hihat is and well, the track has a very nice groove to it, almost pantera-esque! I would love to hear what sort of melody you have rolling, I think it would help a lot in finding a vocalist for the work too if you had it laid out in the track already so they can get a gist of what you're going after. This one properly produced, with a talented vocalist and some hopeful lyrics could definietly be something! The noise version? Yeah... If you removed the thing making that metallic noise, added a distorted guitar, maybe cut down on the distortion on the drums and had an angry vocalist then hell yes it would be a nice track! How do you plan on progressing with this thing? I think you could add more and more stuff as it builds up from the 0:30 mark, then end it all either with a huge ccrash, or have a very anti-climax break into a cello playing a fitting melody. I think if you have a huge bang, you could have a much smoother part following, but with the cello I think you could raise the tempo, make it go slightly faster and follow the new tempo change with more percussion. Either way I'm digging what you've got going and I'd love to hear this track progress! I really dig the intro with the wind and the panning sounds, the high-pitched 'bell' really ties it together well! The rest I'm not so sure about, there are elements here and there that are cool ideas, such as the guitar squeal that you've got going in the second noise part. I'm not sure what to make of industrial music most of the time, since it usually seems like it works a lot better with visuals, be it live acting or video, y'know? I have to say it is all mixed really well nonetheless, and I think that you could combine the two main 'stories' in the track and make something that could stand on it's own :) [editline]4th December 2014[/editline]
i've also been working a lot on mixing and mastering so if you hear anything relating to those things that you don't like then it would be super helpful if you pointed them out
There's some bass frequency that sort of overpowers it all too much in the beginning, it does a "wooom" sound (audible at 0:19, 0:23, 0:27 etc) that I think you could try and dial down a few dBs :) The track has a nice kick and snare, and very, very nice cowbell-sounding percussion! I think you've got the track mixed well, it has a lot of intricate details that are audible but doesn't take over the whole soundscape! The mix is very high mid-trebly, even in the parts where there's a bass. I'm not sure I would do that because the track feels a bit flat because of it, which is a shame because you've done a very nice job on the instrumentation! Even the glitchy breaks doesn't really make up for the lack of progress, or something to break up the monotomy. What's the plan with this track? I bet if you had a rapper on top of it spitting out some grim message of being chased, being hated and generally being an outcast it could work the way it is now. [editline]4th December 2014[/editline]

I like the bouncing bass you have that follows the kick, and a beautiful rock snare on top of it! And the hihat, it sounds very beautiful :) I think some sort of back-beat bass that plays on the upbeat on 1 and 2, and then hit it on the 4th beat and the upbeat could be cool. Something like this: 1xxxxx n xxxxx 2 xxxxx n xxxx 3 xxxx n xxxxxx 4 xxxxx n Kick xx Bass xxx xxxx Bass xxx Snare xxxxxxxxxx Bass xxx Bass
You could definietly add some reverb to the snare, it creates a pretty odd contrast between the reverby kick and the completely flat snare. The mix is very high mid-trebly, even in the parts where there's a bass. I'm not sure I would do that because the track feels a bit flat because of it, which is a shame because you've done a very nice job on the instrumentation! Bring that bass back and let it be a part of the family reunion!
Thank you! I really didn't think about adding some reverb to the snare, however, I will fix that EQ problem cause I have noticed the same thing with it sounding flat.
Thank you! I really didn't think about adding some reverb to the snare, however, I will fix that EQ problem cause I have noticed the same thing with it sounding flat.
Reverb and delay are two excellent tools for creating a sense of depth :) Using extreme EQ can help create a sense of depth too, for example by cutting everything above 400hz can give the sense of enclosure, whereas cutting everything below 2khz can create a sense of distance, it all depends on the sound ofcourse so my best tip would be to experiment! [editline]4th December 2014[/editline] Here's a track I'm currently working on, I'm not sure how to further progress it since it started out as an attempt to make background music for a game :v

not really feeling it, it lacks the intensity that makes harsh noise and PV what they are there's some elements that definitely work, but as a whole it falls flat the intro is good, very merzbow-esque, but the drumming section afterwards is very lacking, it's not harsh, abrasive or huge enough, so it's just a kind of drumming section that repeats for a bit the way you introduce the melody is a bit weird i think it'd work better if it emerged from a fade-out of noise, like a huge blast would happen first and as it would slowly fade out you would be able to make out the melody and then the noises you currently have on top of that melody part would start going off as an example of what i mean, here's the transition between part 1 and part 2 of World's End Girlfriend's Bohemian Purgatory the reprise of the drumming section has the same problem as the first section, it really lacks impact i can definitely see what you're going for with all of this stuff, but it really lacks the chaos and abrasive intensity that is associated with harsh noise and PV talking about the soundcloud version, ofc
Real clean & atmospheric. I like the eerie atmosphere of it a lot. That heavier, lower sounding bass that comes in on the second drop is sick too. I don't think there's anything wrong with the song overall, to be honest. The only thing I don't like is at 0:28, when you can hear just the higher end of the bass, but that's just me though. - That song I posted a sec ago is just about finished, I'm happy with how it turned out, but if there's any problems with it that I missed (such as mixing/mastering issues), let me know. Also, I'm glad I finished it when I did, because my headphones are having a fuckout right now and I'm probably gonna have to make a warranty claim and wait a damn month to get them replaced. [editline]asdf[/editline] Some shit wasn't playing in the beginning that was supposed to be, fixed that & uploaded it again.
sick [editline]4th December 2014[/editline]
I think you should turn up that lead synth, and maybe add some more hard sounds, like make drums hit harder. I just finished my first song with vocals. Written and produced by me, aswell as sang by me.
beautiful [editline]4th December 2014[/editline]
your mix is pretty messy but i'm digging this. very funky, you're heading in the right direction i think. i've made lots of music lately and i haven't been uploading much but here's a joint i made last night
needs a minnie ripperton sample for the sake of doing it [editline]4th December 2014[/editline]
Love the piano progression. Very nice dude. I agree with Hakita, sounds very doomish. And I also agree with Hakita that right now its pretty repetitive, but when you add vocals that should add a lot to it. __________________________________________ This is what I've been working on. I really like the way the instruments sound. I feel like you've got a really good base on it right now, and could add in some more sounds or leave it as is. It's very neat and well paced.
Working on some dnb
I always really like the breakbeat patterns, and they sound awesome in here. I'd complain that it doesn't change much throughout, but really it's only 22 seconds long: So I'd say it sets a pretty nice pace for the short time it has. Just work with any ideas you have on how to transition forward and roll with things that sound good!
That song I posted a sec ago is just about finished, I'm happy with how it turned out, but if there's any problems with it that I missed (such as mixing/mastering issues), let me know.
I really like the sound of this, it sounds crisp in my headphones. It feels like it plays mostly the same thing for the first third of the track. It does it well, but it'd be cool if it did something more. The slow section has an awesome atmosphere for sure though, and the lead back in was smoothly fantastic.
i've finally gotten to the point where i can make a lot of the sounds that I like hearing in some of my favorite artists' tracks. this is a very sound design-y track and i had a lot of fun trying different effects and techniques i've never thought of before i've also been working a lot on mixing and mastering so if you hear anything relating to those things that you don't like then it would be super helpful if you pointed them out
I really like the sounds in there. Rather enjoyable for sure, though felt almost awkward without other instruments.
Here is something I popped out recently. Kind of short little project.
I really like the melodies in the intro, when the arps came in I couldn't not love them. I'd try to vary the drums some throughout, since their so simple it'd be nice if they didn't hit the same way every time. Overall the whole thing has great composition, it keeps the song interesting throughout.
This is what I've been working on. Work in progress ladies and gents. Unleash the Fire -
That is so wonderfully atmospheric. I can just imagine a scene set to this must be insanely tense. _______________________ I've added some more to this piece, though after I got it set like this I lost sight of how I wished for it to sound. It'll sit there until I figure it out again. Oh well though, haha.
