when i listened i was constantly waiting for you to turn down the reverb and bring the drums up in the mix for full effect but it never happened :(
the drums feel drowned out and v weak, they lack impact and power. the actual programming isn't bad but it's very repetitive which gets old super quick. i like the ambiance of your synths but you need to work on your mixing (specifically on the drums, i think i hear a ride/closed hat in there but its ridiculously low it may as well not be there), give your kick more low end, compress your snare a bit so it really "cracks" and has power in it, and definitely raise the kick/hats in the mix, probably the snare a bit too. i feel like theres some reverb applied to the drum track as well so you might want to tone that down a bit.

i like the glitchy vocal chop thing, how did you do that? is it an LFO affecting the pitch that you retrigger every vocal hit or what? the percussion is really cool and well done and i like the little synth accent at 1.30~, the actual patch reminds me a bit of the synths tyler the creator uses. the low end for the track feels a bit weak tho, i think you should try and up the sub bass by a bit to get a full sense of "depth" in the track because right now it feels a bit hollow without it. nice progression, overall its a neat track.

i think you need to make the piano more velocity sensitive because right now it sounds a bit unemotive with each chord being equally powerful. the snare drum roll just sounds cheesy and stupid imo, it seems like a cliche, unnecessary drum accent people add just because a lot of other orchestral/soundtrack-esque tunes use it. the strings are surprisingly nice, did you record live or use VST? if its VST i'm really impressed. i feel like you should have had a bit of a bass section come in near the end to finalize the track and give it more depth and emotion but otherwise its a cool tune

the sidechained strings/synth is a cool melody thing but the drums sound really stupid and are poorly mixed. the actual progression of the track is a bit awkward too imo. you have the synth solo intro then throw in the drum break but the bass is so low its negligible and sounds like you're warming up for something, then you drop the drums and do another buildup instead. the vocal glitch is cool for the buildup but then when the buildup is over and the drums come back in your bass is once again so low it almost feels like the buildup is just being extended. raise the bass in the mix so its more apparent because right now its completely negligible. the hats are too high in the mix, the snare needs compression and to be raised in the mix because right now its bland and boring, the kick has no low end or sub and needs to be raised in the mix a bit, completely lacks any power. add some light reverb to your hats so they sound less robotic because they clash with the otherwise organic feel of the track. work on your progression in the track because its essentially the same 4 bars of melody over and over again with you dropping different tracks occasionally for buildups. gets a bit boring.

I appreciate the feedback a lot because I'm trying to work on my drum beats and I'm used to doing ambient stuff where I push the reverb up
so everything comes out sort of muffled and gross but I'd still rather make shit music outside of my comfort zone and learn from it then make passable stuff that I've always made
i wish someone would just give you a live kit with proper mics and force you to make a bossonova album or something because i really liked that one track you posted a while ago lol

Thanks, I looked into the piano velocity and you were right it was practically equal, thanks. On the note about the snare I agree its cliche, but I want it to be a slow march, and snare and bass drum get that job done. It gives it that kind of feeling I want, even though, again I agree its a bit cheesy. Finally there all VST, I try hard getting the instruments, at least the strings to sound as close to real as possible.
Also, since I'm multitasking here is a piece that maybe we might use in the Portal mod I'm writing music for. I haven't decided if I am just going to loop it or write another 3 mins or so and make it a fuller piece.

Dude your melodies are fucking immaculate. That bleepy arp works so well in the mix too, this is really great. Mix wise it's a little on the trebly side but I've been listening to really bass heavy music lately so it might just be me. Damn that glitch hop section is crazy too.

Nice, I've been getting into 808 sounds myself lately and this uses them really well. It has a nice, light feel to it, I love the breakdown at around 0:50. The kick is definitely too clicky, maybe give it some attack with an envelope? It really stands out annoyingly. I also don't like that saw synth that loops like 4 notes throughout most of it, gets pretty grating. Other than that I do like this, makes me think of a mellow summer night.

And it sounds a lot like Rediscover for sure. The intro is a little long, but whatever it's skippable. The violin is awesome when it comes in, wish I could say the same about the drums. I can tell that you tried to make an old school boom bap sound but they are too squashed and processed and the kick sounds too thin. They really kinda ruin it because everything else is great. Would really be amazing if you chopped up an old break like The Honeydrippers and just laid it out with some light compression instead imo.

I kinda like it, has a nice pulse running through it, would work nicely in a game or movie of some kind for a tripped out chase scene. I think you should master it a little louder though. The end was really nice, cool progression.

Dude that filter at the start is really cool. It sounds exactly like it was playing through some old boombox. I like the drop a little less. That vocal sample saying your love or something is awesome, but the synth is too bright imo. It sounds almost like white noise. Still, it's cool and I do like the track overall.

You know, I think having the kick come in at irregular times where it isn't supposed to be, out of sync with the tempo could add a really cool feel to the song since it already sidechains pretty heavily.
I like the sample you've used, and the various synths you've added ; They should come in more often, they add a lot to the beat and it is a shame they aren't used more. The break I think is really neat, it should go back to the main beat that is around 0:33 and forward right after that and go on for half a minute or so before having that last bit.
I made some sort of metal type riff and drumbeat, and then laid down some really bare vocals. Tell me what you think! :smile:
