Working on a metal cover of some songs from La Mulana. Only has one but the end is a sample of the next track that it will move into.

I forgot I had a bunch of old cheesy reggae/dub/jungle samples and tried to do a little dubstep/trap tune.

This is my WIP track. It's got a nice mau5-ish vibe I think. What do you think?
(Note that it's a WIP track. It will be reworked on, sounds may change/get scrapped, more and proper cymbals and sound progression will be added and and it will be mastered properly)
made some drum & bass with a cheesy intro and a dancy drop

I can never do Hip Hop beats the way I want them. I have a vision, but I just can't think up of the chords properly, I already written the lyrics but I seem to properly mold it out unto Reason 5.

you've got a few dissonant notes in there.

at around 41/42 seconds... the twinkly melody you have going doesn't sound like it's even in the same key as the strings/bass synth stuff in the back.

Strange,I'm checked it multiple times and it's on key the whole time. Can anyone reconfirm this please?
Its not that its not on key the whole time - is that the notes from the counterpoint melodies are questionably combined

Sounds like you just have two different instruments playing notes that are a half step apart a few times there which is making it sound off? It definitely helps with the whole eerie feeling when you do that but I think it does sound a little too dissonant around that 41 second spot.

The part is supposed to sound a bit computer/machine like, supposed to be a portal 2 style track with the drones and synthesized bits.

I have a rough idea of mastering/mixing but I feel like there's so much I'm missing. All I've gathered from various youtube videos is organizing the frequencies with EQs and volume sliders so that it isn't as cluttered.
So I'm challenging myself to write something completely different from what I normally write. I just started this tonight, but I really think its coming along quite nicely. I want this to give off a 60's spy movie vibe.

I don't particularly need critique (although it'd be awesome) - I'm just dumping my latest work-in-progresses somewhere. They're all peculiar.

Everything in the intro is NES. The bass that carries through is NES. The second verse's different instruments are Sega Genesis-based.

The intro bass is a Sega Genesis bass, the intro lead is Massive, and everything else in the intro is NES. (sans the drums) I'm too into Chiptune.

Mostly chiptune, again. This time, it's Famicom for the intro lead and NES for the bass.

I was watching playthroughs of HL2 while making this. I need to make the lead at :17 stand out more, and make the last section (before the repetition) have more of a distinct change in the song.

Those drums are emulated Commodore 64 drums ran through a guitar amp.

The bass sounds like it's doing off notes, but it might just because it doesn't have enough character. It might also be because the second note in it's repetition is a note too low. Please investigate, as this is a nice little beat you have going.
You might want to look into adding a vinyl sound to your strings. :3

Just keep going at it. Keep learning new techniques. Try some of your own magic.
I'm no mixing genius but I'm way better than I was a while ago. You'll eventually learn by ear what sounds natural and what sounds whack. It's also not a bad idea to invest in some good flat-frequency headphones/monitors.

Those minor chords are a bit too dissonant imo. It sounds like the second chord has way too many notes going at once.
Minor keys are great for getting the listener interested in what comes next as their ear searches for resolution, but if you create too much dissonance you'll completely through the listener off in a bad way. That's what's happening right now - you can totally do it right and everything's all there - just simplify the second chord a bit more.

Thos chiptune tracks are crazy, I love them. Just wanted to say that the NES and Famicon are the same thing tho.
Reworked an older song for an album.
