Thank you very much! I will probably add vocals soon, as well as the second part of the song.
Just finished up this electro track. I'm still working on mastering, but here it is:

Well, let me start with positives. "Steam Punk'd" definitely has some interesting synths and samples. I like your use of delay at times, it gives the song a much fuller sound.
I really do hate to point this out... but there was absolutely no/very little progression in your song. It was the same measure long chord progression throughout the entire song, which gets incredibly boring when the song is 5 minutes long. I can tell that you added some effects for some pseudo progression, but it doesn't help in the long run. Try to make your song really interesting to listen to, something that will attract the listener. Right now, it feels very static, like it could be on loop in a club.
Also, your drum samples are very low quality and generic. I recommend finding some Roland 808 samples, or something similar.
Since you said you're not done with the mastering, I won't comment on it. Overall, the song structure needs a lot of work for it to be interesting to the listener, and you really need to find some new samples for the drums.
wayyyy not done. and i'd love to be the one to remind you i'm actually not dead. just bought addictive keys and played around a bit on my wonderful midi piano i now call "Stacey." messing around with billions of samples i've acquired from friends/ field recordings i put together ONE FUCKING BEAT. i tend to use everything i have at hand. so i put the two together and ended up with this so far. a lot more needs to be recorded so i've got a loooong way to go.
Do be a huge favor, and give me some direction on where to go with this/what to add//what to edit. and post it in the soundcloud as a comment, i tend to read those during government class, and when i respond it makes me look on task, so its a win win cause i'm graded on a curve anyway.
anywho here it is

not bad
The snare is not snappy enough, compress it and bring it up a bit in the mix

P nice; like above said the snare needs some weight behind it. I thought the samples were rad, lots of small details flying around.
here's a morning doodle thing

there will be guitar and strings there to accompany the snare, that's why the snare is like that.

I sure do appreciate you taking time check out my tune. When I said I was finished this track was quite the overstatement. To be fair, I was planning on snipping it down to around 3 minutes or so, but never got around to doing it. Nonetheless, I've still got a lot to learn here and I thank you for the critic as well as your advice. I'll be sure to utilize it.
It'll be reworked and I'll repost the edit.
Quick question: I've upgraded from Cubase LE 4 > Cubase Studio 5 > Cubase 6 in the past and I'm gonna switch to a newer studio computer. Will I have to go through the hassle of installing all these programs again or does the Cubase 6 upgrade suffice?

reworked it, dumbed down the snare, recorded guitar (electric and acoustic) and sidechain sweepers are the instant "make-goodizer" when done correctly so yeuh there it is ^^
also tell me if i should keep the VOX or leave them out. i'm on the fence about it.
So I made some edits and ended up with this.

After watching a few videos on mastering, since I know little about this topic, I made my attempts and tweaked around a bit. Personally I think it sounds pretty crisp, but I'm curious on anyone's thoughts on that.
Working on the second movement specifically. I'm having trouble with a few things.
Working on less repetitive. Anyone know how to fix that problem?
I think it builds up too quick. Anyone agree?

Here's some weird half time at 174 stuff that I wrote to throw in to DnB sets:

I love this. The little clicky sounds that play like 4 in a row and either gown down or up in pitch are great. I say keep the vox in (assuming it's the gated vowely sound you have in there).
I want to do a dnb remix of this, it's so lush!

I liked the VOX and the track the only thing I don't like is that kickdrum

Sounds pretty good to me kick drum could perhaps a little more punch to it also the song it's self is kinda repetitive

My stuff is repetitive so can't help you on that.
I think the pacing of it is great if I didn't know you made it I would think it's from old 90s game
The bonus piece of shit is good too.

This kicks ass
Is that a finger snap I heard along with the snare on every second beat?
also something from me

First attempt at sampling and it's a sample of a old WIP that I never finished

Yep! I want to turn it down a little bit though I think.

Thanks. If you were wondering it's just Sibelius notation software exported audio files using the Sibelius 7 sounds. Not the best but much better than midi.

Imma give you my thoughts because you're so kind to offer yours to other people, so yeah the ambient piece? I'm digging it! The synth you've chosen is really nice, you could easily let it just roll for 1-2 minutes if you want it to be truly ambient, since I believe the percussion you've added puts too much intensity into it, I would've let it stay more in the background, and have it go on for say a minute or so with the sonic backscape you have rolling through 0:22 to 0:40ish. I think the music that's going on from 0:42 could also stick around for much longer, maybe, have the percussion stick around in the background here too. Not sure about the ending, it sticks out a bit now!
Theh other piece, I can't really come up with anything, you've made some excellent choices both formwise and soundwise, maybe let the various pieces stick around longer, kill your darlings and don't be afraid of having things sticking around for a longer period of time!
Here's something I'm currently working on, still working on lyrics though, should come sometime this weekend hopefully

Tell me what you think, I'd love to hear your thoughts about this piece!

did some more work on this track, gave it some melody, really fond of where it's going atm.
Will keep working on it in my spare time, it's been tricky to find time to fuck around in between shifts recently
A trancey kind of thing I'm working on
