I'm actually more keen on the Hollywood series. Not to mention it's produced by Nick Phoenix and Thomas Bergersen who are literally my writing inspiration. I'm shooting to get the Composers Collection over the summer. Gold specifically, and then upgrade to diamond once I gather some more cash. Renoise is best for drums. Period.

It depends on how you work. I've used FL for years, but after buying live instruments and recording equipment I had to switch, as FL is not terribly well suited for recording and mixing live instruments. FL is great for electronic styles of music, IMO. I tried out Pro Tools, which is great for recording. However, the price is a bit too steep. Studio One is really great as well, which is what I use now. Loving it so far. It seems much more lightweight than PT, yet still has a great workflow and features.

Nuendo 6, which is the DAW Valve use's in their studio, is $1700

The beginning does feel a bit out of place due to this song being part of a much larger piece, so it should make a bit more sense later on. Still, I definitely agree that it feels a bit too exciting for the rest of the piece.
