That kind of FlyLo sounding drum. I was inspired to do electronic music by him but could never emulate that sound.
I think finding the right samples is the most important thing when it comes to drums. But for Rediscover's particular track, the snare seems to be what's giving the drums their unique sound. Try finding a sample that has a similar sound, and use an envelope to cut out a lot of the decay. Just try to get that nice snappy sound using EQ and envelopes, and maybe try layering a few snares together.
I recreate sounds when I'm bored, here's one of them
i honestly didnt really do much to them, just compressed them and threw an eq on each sample
kick: http://puu.sh/6XpNb.png
snare: http://puu.sh/6XpTc.png
it depends a lot on the kind of drum samples you use too. if you find a naturally dope snare sound then its gonna sound super dope when you compress and eq that shit
I Think that's my problem, I've been using the same shitty drum machine samples for years. Know anywhere I can find quality samples?
[editline]17th February 2014[/editline]
I always wanted a quality drum sound, like Flying Lotus or Ta-Ku.
i'm wondering if anyone wouldn't mind listening to a few of my band's more recent works. most of it is instrumental with a few small exceptions, it ranges anywhere from spacey alternative rock to more of a hardcore instrumental jam
a metal-ish jam

mellow, ambient jam

I made an alteration, a bit more bass-y. listen to the end it's really short

check this place: http://www.rhythm-lab.com/
The vinyl drum libraries are some of the best free content out there

not entirely happy with this yet but I think it's a good base

Sample them yourself from old jazz or funk songs. If you don't listen to any of that, look up old hiphop albums on Wikipedia, there's often a section that shows what samples were used in the beats.
Started recording vox for my newest project, shit is heavy and angry as fk :v:

back to rock roots. dont really know what to add at this point. its just drum and 2 guitar tracks
If anybody makes a melody in 8/4 ill make something ridiculous with it.

I made a bunch of stuff and put it all together and I'm very proud of it.

I was expecting optimistic and dumb ratings because it's "metal". Didn't knew it will be received so well, thank you

Some home-made sample synth ambient. Did I go in the wrong direction with the chords or should I keep it as is?

its good. maybe loop the particular chords youre talking about because it seems very progressive to the point where i can barely discern the melody
http://soundcloud.com/obi2kanobe/funk-around
something fresh. needs a bassline

trying to work on timing rather than notes

Love these, and your timing is great. what do you use for those drums?
I did another song in my sort of style that im trying to get into but also I restricted it to only giving myself 2 hours to complete the entire song from scratch without any ideas in my head. I'd recommend it highly, if you don't have a chance to think about it you can just get straight to it and it gives you a good idea of what you naturally sort of tend towards

I'm not as proud of this as my last track but this is probably more telling of what I write I guess

A preview of a freebie being released on February 22nd:

Yes it sounds super weird due to a quick master, but it'll sound better when it comes down to the final render haha.

this is perfect

Whipped up this funky track to finish off my 3-year old Soundcloud page. I've used up my upload time, and buying pro is out of the question for various reasons, mainly because I don't have money for it right now, because I make music as a hobby and want to keep it that way, and because I'm too cheap for that shit anyway. I'm going to make a new page when I decide to upload a new track.
I also have a Facebook page now.

aw thank you

A little orchestral piece I came up with. I couldn't think of a good way for it to end, so I kind of just wrapped it up.

This is pretty amazing man, never stop!

My first track ever, I`ve changed it a lot already but the concept is right here.
I'm deleting the thread (at least I'm trying to) I made before because I had not seen this one, that just fit my porpuses!
I'm aiming in some dark ambiental stuff just for the intro of it (that is basically what I'm showing you right now) and later it will get bass-ish...
Cheers!

The kind of progression is just like one track from a RTS game sound track that I just cant remember!
Childhood memories lol
Liked it.

This is really good.
If you don't mind sharing, what do you use your your instruments? I like making orchestral music myself but I cant find any VST instruments or samples

Your other music is fantastic too

I thought it sounded decent as it stands. It's pretty short just yet, but I liked the style and I can see it coming out pretty nicely. Not sure about the very first voice sample, something about it sounded out of place.
