pretty much placeholder everything, no vocals yet :v:
reggae-rock track
thats a really nasty bass wobble but it just gets old and theres really not any rythm to it its more like background music for a game or movie or somethin i dunno. its not bad its just not really something i would expect in an album or something yknow
Sorry, I forgot to mention that it actually is background for a game. The part up until the cymbal is going to be an animation for the final boss appearing and the part with the cymbal will loop for the duration of the battle. Thanks for the crits though, I appreciate it.

trying old stuff out again

Still a big wip but we've got some draft vocals now.
EDIT: newer version
EDIT: newer newer version. Much better mix. The vocals are annoying me though, my mixer adds loads of noise to it and by de-noising it it distorts it and loses a lot of low frequency information. I think I'll buy a new mixer and we'll re-record it when we're next together, but she won't have a chest infection this time so we'll lose the awesome raspyness :v:

Ah man, I was just listening to it and thinking about how it's not as good as I remembered and I'm not at all happy with it, will probs give it up and not bother getting new gear etc etc then your comment turned it all around! Here's another song we did recently (same noise issues though) I posted here before: https://soundcloud.com/awesomesaucee/gin-juice-cover
I have a vicious circle whereby my gear isn't great which makes it hard to record stuff, but because it's hard to record stuff I lose interest in it as it's frustrating - but then I don't practice enough to improve.
I might just bit the bullet and get a new audio interface, then we'll re-record everything I imagine. Currently working on a jazz/reggae backing track for our next dre cover!
It was fun listening through the tracks on this page. This section has a lot of talented people here nowadays but the interaction just isn't there. I guess that's a common problem with any musician forum or section :(

Try leaving the bass swell at 0:11 for a change in patterns/a "drop"/something of importance. It sounds kind of anticlimatic by itself.

What do you want it to sound like? It's pretty cool already! A little reverb on the clap/snare would be nice.

Help me make my bass better, please.
The bass sound is ok, maybe try sidechaining it a bit with the kick so it doesn't just eat the kick completely. Also is that fl keys I hear? Try avoiding that because while you can make it sound nice it's just not worth the effort. I think someone posted some free piano plugins on the resource collection thread. Maybe check them out?
Any stock sounds you should probably avoid, particularly on FL as the sounds are so distinctive. Even avoiding synth presets is a good idea
Pretty much done with this one

working on funk single not rhythms. its hard to keep from getting stale
How did you manage to get started with making music? Like, what do you use now and what did you use to learn? I'd really like to make some music because I've been listening to you guys' stuff and it's really inspiring.

Personally, I started playing the guitar when I was like 9 but kinda left it dormant. Then FL studio came along and I started learning how to make trance music and I bounced between that and the guitar until now.

If you're starting from ground zero, my advice would be to learn an instrument. Get to the point where you can play a few songs, and after some practice and you'll start noticing an "automatic" feeling to it. You'll slowly get muscle memory to the notes, and be able to play notes you're thinking about without looking or stopping. I'd say knowing an instrument is important regardless of whether or not you're making purely electronic music or not. Some people can arrange notes on a piano roll with just a mouse and it will sound fine, but it really takes some experience first hand to understand how chords and melodies play out.
When it comes to the program used to compose, there's tons of them. It's mostly about the person using the program, rather than the program itself. From what I can tell the most popular DAWs are Ableton, Fruity Loops, Reason, Cubase, and Logic. Personally I started with FL Studio. I jumped completely blind into FL about 3 years ago with absolutely no idea what I was doing. At first I just kinda stumbled my way around exploring how everything works; making tunes with preset synths and beats with stock samples. But I learned after a while that it's pretty hard to learn every inch of it without looking up tutorial videos or how to's, so I strongly recommend some good old youtube lernin. Twisting knobs and figuring out what they do is one way to learn, but it's sure as hell slow. Something as simple as a search for "fl studio (or any other DAW) basics" is enough to send you on your way honestly.
Overall: listen to a lot of music, study everything you can about it. Recreating songs you like is a good way to wrap your head around certain elements of music. And don't be afraid to fail, it's a learning process!

I guess if you're totally new to music (as in don't know theory or anything) you can just check out some Digital Audio Workstations (DAW) like FL Studio, Ableton Live, Reason, Reaper, sonar, cubase and many others that are there but I don't remember the names of. They all operate differently and have different built-in plugins that kinda have their unique sounds, but in the end the capability of sound is pretty much the same when you actually know what you're doing :v:.
From my experience the easier and less cluttered ones to learn would be FL Studio and Ableton.
Just test them out a bit, maybe try some tutorials and stuff, but remember to keep it simple so you don't overwhelm yourself with all the stuff you have to learn!
In the end the most important thing is PATIENCE! It will take time and hard work to get your sound to a decent level. I used to get way too confident and shared some REALLY shitty tracks. The shit people said about them almost made me quit entirely.
A track of mine from 2009-2010 (this is fucking embarrassing):

Like anax pointed learning an instrument is a good way too, I just jumped into fl studio wanting to make beats like Dr. Dre lol
