New interface, so I decided to start a new track. Does anybody have some pointers for writing basslines?

Just finished this! Kinda funky house electro I guess?
When was the last time the ratio of "people submitting music" to "people doing their part and providing constructive criticism to others" was any where near healthy? It's in the title but...man.

It's morbidly funny how it continues even as we discuss. Frankly I'd be for making it a rule that you need to give one good feedback post to get earn a response to your work, so you'd have to respond to the song above your post to get CC. And like, if you did a poor/lazy job the next person to post work could choose to give feedback to an older post that did give good CC instead of yours. That way you'd also be free to give CC to whoever whenever, and the only real rule is that to post your own work you'd have to give good CC once per go, and those who don't give a shit could still post their work anyway, just that they'd be largely ignored as usual. So, if that doesn't sound good be glad I'm not in charge of anything ehue.
We tried that. It didn't work ever. It wasn't bannable and we had no way of enforcing to be bannable so yeah. Also it's hard for some people - different genres are different, obviously. I don't make much EDM or house. I'm going to be shitall help to anyone who does. same for someone who makes a lot of EDM but not much metal. It sucks but like the only way to make the thread better is to lead by example

-sorry, still adjusting to being a sober individual
what
I'll edit the fuck out of it and simplify, adhd gets the better of me at times in my arguments and becomes circular logic and evidently I fail at making anything simple
haven't posted in a while here's a bass drop I came up with
I'd say that it sounds a little too soft. It's like, toeing the threshold of where I'd imagine it being a boss-fight song in Luigi's Mansion. Try to add something with more kick/punch/bite maybe?
instrumental of a ska-punk/reggae-rock track, i don't really know how to mix/master too well but here's the rough WIP in the meantime :v:
I'd like a bit more bass in the mix. Also I personally can't stand when songs start with audio from movies/TV/etc. The guitar part is cool, but kinda uncomfortably sloppy at times. Like, not easygoing sloppy, just awkward sloppy with the tempo sometimes.

I'm not really sure...what this is. It sounds like you're practicing scales. Or is it like...supposed to go over the YouTube video? That would probably make it less weird but you're kinda just playing quarter notes. I'd love an explanation of what I'm seein' here. Also I made another thing. I don't know why ProTools always 'bounces' files so quietly when I master volume almost to the point of peaking, anyone else use it that might have an idea?
Just finished this! Kinda funky house electro I guess?
I really liked the track, but I think you should either rework the part between 30s and 46s - you kinda lose energy (in a, in my opinion, not so gratifying way) after the drums on 30s. The build-up ends up being staggered, and feeling a bit long. I took the liberty of "reworking" (that sounds like I did a lot, I didn't) the first bit just slightly: http://1drv.ms/1iq1Nd9 I'm not all that rhythmic (and I don't have a drum set or midi-keyboard), but I feel that simply adding a bit here and there on the first section (for example my shitty sounding mouth percussion), and making it slightly longer might make it more effectual. I simply added a rudimentary crescendo, as well as a bit from just before 46s, and I really think it made the climax a lot more climaxy. I like the bit between 30s and 46s, though, but I really think you start too loud and go for a bit too long without a steady change in volume. It should be said that I don't really listen to this genre, and I don't know what goals you might have had when you made this - so take what you want from my critique.
Also I made another thing.
Are you sure you're peaking the volumes when mixing? I used to have that problem with things sounding quiet when I exported them, most of the time that can be solved with a quick mastering where you throw on a compressor on the master bus, eq so that you really get that clarity and then bounce it. I'm digging the groove you've got going mate, I believe you could work on that eq on guitars, kill all frequencies below 100 hz on the rhythm guitar, maybe even as bold as 140. On the lead, drop everything below 200 hz, work those higher frequencies near 6khz, rhythm I think could work around 2,5-3khz. Bass I think just needs a compressor, it should solve itself with the whole muddiness when guitars are separated from the bass. Bring those drums forward in the mix, throw some reverb on it to give it a more 'live' feel and if you can, work on the dynamics, fiddle with each hit so that nothing is the exact same volume, it will make them come alive a bit more that way. I did some drum&bass (I think?) with some dubstep influences, quite honestly I'm not sure what genre it is because I never really follow the guidelines to genres, those two genres I think are the closest ones though so you know what to expect. finally back into making music what do you guys think of this? Really really like.
gonna dump a bunch of stuff I've been messing around with lately. (bunch of tracks)
Your pad sounds are fucking sick, especially in Particle Bonds & Basalt Lament. The one that comes in at the end of Basalt Lament sounds like something Burial would use. Are there any vst instruments or anything you use that you'd recommend for that? I'm not really sure why, but I often have a difficult time with pads.
finally back into making music
I've never been a real fan of the 'heavily sampled melody' kind of music, but frankly it's highly unoffensive. Very chill, good vibes, etc. I think it could certainly build more if you chose to do so, but the only real critique I can offer is that the samples sometimes start off-beat and it's just a tad jarring.

I use Zebra2 for most of my stuff-- but I use Sytrus & Massive too. The framework I use for pads generally starts with really slow attack, full sustain, and high release enveloper. Followed by sprinkled imperfections like comb filters & random stuttering LFO controlled parameters. The best way to figure out pads or any other synths from my experience is studying the preset pads in various VSTs and applying it. The Basalt Lament pad in specific was Zebra2 w/4 saw wave oscillators all slightly detuned from one-another, and a differing strength of vibrato on each one. Topped off with a simple lowpass filter enveloped by an even slower attack than the root enveloper.
Hey, I have a little Drum n Bass track I recently finished. It has a little bit of trancy elements to it. Finished another remix comp thing, this time of a kilter track (kilter is awesome btw) __________________________________________________
"Two Steps Back" is just about finished, let me know if you notice any problems & shit with it. I think some of the hats sound out of place a bit but the crashes seem to fit fine, idk, I like it.
