Good to see everyone commenting on people's work. Keep it up [editline]29th April 2014[/editline]
I'm hella late to say this, but I would adore to hear a completed version of this.
Cheers man. Working on it.
Are you sure you're peaking the volumes when mixing? I used to have that problem with things sounding quiet when I exported them, most of the time that can be solved with a quick mastering where you throw on a compressor on the master bus, eq so that you really get that clarity and then bounce it. I'm digging the groove you've got going mate, I believe you could work on that eq on guitars, kill all frequencies below 100 hz on the rhythm guitar, maybe even as bold as 140. On the lead, drop everything below 200 hz, work those higher frequencies near 6khz, rhythm I think could work around 2,5-3khz. Bass I think just needs a compressor, it should solve itself with the whole muddiness when guitars are separated from the bass. Bring those drums forward in the mix, throw some reverb on it to give it a more 'live' feel and if you can, work on the dynamics, fiddle with each hit so that nothing is the exact same volume, it will make them come alive a bit more that way. I did some drum&bass (I think?) with some dubstep influences, quite honestly I'm not sure what genre it is because I never really follow the guidelines to genres, those two genres I think are the closest ones though so you know what to expect.
Firstly- not sure how I missed your awesome feedback but thanks a million! I'll definitely look into running a compression pass and playing with EQ for different parts. I think I say this to a lot of stuff, but your 'drumbassstep' would make an awesome boss-fight song. I feel like the frequency range is missing out a bit towards the end where it still feels like it's building up to something for the duration- it might be the drums EQ- but either way it's still very cool. [editline]28th April 2014[/editline] Oh, nevermind. I just had my headphone amp messed up- it sounds much more full now lol. The only concern is I've realized- if those are meant to be guitar parts they sound very fakey- is it VST? I could record somethin' for ya *wink wink nudge nudge*
Finished another remix comp thing, this time of a kilter track (kilter is awesome btw)
The synths are great, and the mix is fantastic. There's a lot of clarity, you can hear everything, and it all feels right. Good job man! No suggestions, really. We've started recording vocals:
Ideas Ideas Ideas where are you when i need you? What do you guys do for Ideas?
listen to music that gets me hyped up, then improvise some shit on an instrument or start randomly laying shit down in FL til it starts sounding good [editline]29th April 2014[/editline] also copious amounts of drugs have helped in the past but that's not really something I can recommend... music is my only drug now well.. and cigarettes but fuck cigarettes
Ideas Ideas Ideas where are you when i need you? What do you guys do for Ideas?
I listen to other people's music because I am a magpie caw caw caw
I'd say that it sounds a little too soft. It's like, toeing the threshold of where I'd imagine it being a boss-fight song in Luigi's Mansion. Try to add something with more kick/punch/bite maybe? I'd like a bit more bass in the mix. Also I personally can't stand when songs start with audio from movies/TV/etc. The guitar part is cool, but kinda uncomfortably sloppy at times. Like, not easygoing sloppy, just awkward sloppy with the tempo sometimes. I'm not really sure...what this is. It sounds like you're practicing scales. Or is it like...supposed to go over the YouTube video? That would probably make it less weird but you're kinda just playing quarter notes. I'd love an explanation of what I'm seein' here. Also I made another thing. I don't know why ProTools always 'bounces' files so quietly when I master volume almost to the point of peaking, anyone else use it that might have an idea?
Thanks for C&C, although the only thing subject to change any time soon is the guitar timing. The sample at the start is a staple of the genre, I'm gonna guess that's your personal preference though, but it's staying there. I haven't had a window of time to learn how to master properly with cubase, as for the guitar, a string broke so I can't re-record until I've picked up spares. My luck is down :( [editline]29th April 2014[/editline] I'm not even 100% sure where to start learning to mix/master. I've seen tutorials and booklets before on here, but it always felt like there was some step before that that I was meant to go through because they often jump straight in to terms I'm unfamiliar with
I find whenever I listen to someone elses music i just end up thinking of their song.
I find whenever I listen to someone elses music i just end up thinking of their song.
Listen to something of the opposite genre then, that way you won't feel as if you're copying them at all
accidental plagiarism is the worst fucking thing for me sometimes, like I started playing this sick little riff and realised it was pretty much 'lowrider' by WAR, except faster and with a few different notes
accidental plagiarism is the worst fucking thing for me sometimes, like I started playing this sick little riff and realised it was pretty much 'lowrider' by WAR, except faster and with a few different notes
There are only so many melodies, try not to worry about what others are doing and just do your own thing

Yeah they are VST, you're more than welcome to add some guitar licks if you want to, the more psychadelic stuff you can come up with the better! The song goes in A the whole song. :) Youhen can download the track off soundcloud, if you want a 'clean' version without the current melodic instrument then I'd be happy to provide it also! [editline]29th April 2014[/editline]
Listen to something of the opposite genre then, that way you won't feel as if you're copying them at all
And with the added bonus that you're probably going to find some really cool stuff you'd never though of, since all different genres do things differently.

A little soft with the synth around the mid-mid-treble range, could use more growl there, but it packs a punch.
click the share button, copy the 'secret link'
I should have been more specific. How do I do that, but make it play inside the media tags? Is that possible?
