Working on a starbound themed EP Hows this?
Tada. The NES synth you hear in the beginning and throughout will be replaced with my voice. I'm gonna take a shot at singing.

some techno stuff. https://soundcloud.com/thaard/thaard-blipetiblip
lmao i dont even notice shit like that honestly i had no idea, my speakers are butt trash
Shit, you should really get decent headphones. I used to use shitty $60 headphones that I thought sounded alright, and I didn't think it would really make a difference. But now that they died and I got new, good ones, all of the tracks I made before sounded awful. There was so many mistakes & shit that I never could have noticed on my old ones. Not that the high hats in your track being panned like that is even a big deal though, I just mean there could always be something wrong that you wouldn't notice at all on the same speakers.
had to break away from my other track for a while because I was getting stuck in a creative block in work flow messing around with something new [editline]8th May 2014[/editline]
Tada. The bit where it lands on a major chord instead of a minor is cool. this thing though [vid]http://good-mechs.info/sfx/question.ogg[/vid] I did it in one take while mucking around and the recording is shitty but I am wonering if I should take the tune and run with it. I am just worried that I might be ripping something off y'know.
Bit worried bout the second one cos i sampled a really fuckin well known track lol
you weren't lying when you said it was a really well known track haha but you made really nice use of that sample. nice and heavy snare too, too bad this can't really turn into a full track

Holla!
I'm calling upon you guys to give me a lil task or challenge or something
Ambient music with no drums.

Holla!
if you're desperately in need of inspiration, you can get a pack of playing cards (old ones work fine) and write the chromatic notes on them. Then... 1: You can put them in any way you like, or shuffle them. (It's called a twelve-tone series, Vihart did an extensive video on this on youtube). 2: Choose your scale and see what possible melodies you get. Remember you can choose between note lengths and octaves, and remember you can jump to any note you want. One thing to keep in mind is that once a note has been used, it will not appear again, so sometimes you may want to repeat a passed note to bridge a gap. For better 'inspiration', go look at pictures (landscapes are the best imo). Imagine if it was a scene in a movie, what would the music be? Anyway, just my two cents.
This is where I go for the occasional dose of inspiration. Just beware the music that autoplays once the page loads. I've blocked the player with AdBlock and all is well.
I did it in one take while mucking around and the recording is shitty but I am wonering if I should take the tune and run with it. I am just worried that I might be ripping something off y'know.
I've had this feeling before. The thing about ripping people off is that people kinda do it all the time... Just make sure you aren't doing it on purpose. There's been more than one time where I've thought of a good melody, only to realize that I've pretty much plagiarized and came up with a near-exact copy. I do feel like it gets better as time goes on. Remember that 'ripping off' pretty much also includes using the exact same instruments. If you thought about it as a different sound, then that's pretty much a different thing altogether, and can digress musically on a completely different tangent. If there's one thing that's bad for musical creativity, it's fear. Let go of it and let your mind and soul speak out to the world, without any limitations or restrictions or fear. Another thing you can do is just leave the entire thing for a while and come back to it with a fresh lens. That can help a lot too.

Just wondering if anyone here has experience with chip trackers/chiptune trackers I recently contacted an indie game dev, asking if I could compose for a project of his. He replied saying that they could use three ambient tracks and one for a boss fight. I've gotten used to the note input for MilkyTracker, but I looking for anyone with more experience to guide me through some waveforms (especially bass drum/snare drum/percussion in general) and effects. Also need some advice for chiptune ambient... I'm not too sure how to approach that
Just wondering if anyone here has experience with chip trackers/chiptune trackers
I'm all about emulation. Just pick out some retro VSTi's and your favorite music program and just use that. I can send you a list of all the VSTi's I use. They don't have very many parameters so you don't really can't get lost working with them. [editline]9th May 2014[/editline]
I've had this feeling before. Just make sure you aren't doing it on purpose.
http://www.cracked.com/blog/the-5-best-pieces-writing-advice-i-didnt-get-in-school_p2/ Look at #2. You have twelve notes you can work with. You can't be expected to be original every single time you work on a piece. [editline]9th May 2014[/editline]
I need inspiration
When I need inspiration or run out of ideas, I stop working on music - sometimes for weeks at a time! It usually lets me rest that specific creative portion of my brain while I work on other things.
I get my ideas from just listening to chord progressions. Autochord.com is good
Sometimes if I need inspiration, I just go walk or ride my bike downtown at like 3:00 am. It's kind of eerie, with no cars or people in sight. The street lights look nice from the hills and rooftops. Then I just kind of think about sounds; how things I see would sound, or how aggressive a song about it would be when my fucking brand new bike breaks down and I have to walk it home to fix it, because I didn't realize it was a shitty, Chinese-made bike when I paid $230 for it, when it was on sale for half price.
had to break away from my other track for a while because I was getting stuck in a creative block in work flow messing around with something new
I like it, could've been in some 90s video game ;p But the bass and other synths are pushing the drums away too much for me, sounds heavily compressed at around 0:18, maybe try some slight sidechaining on the synths to make room for the drums.
Just some screwing about with starbound stuff.
Lovely. Just can't commercially release it cos this song has probably got fuckin lawyers still on it today lmao

How'd you do that!? lol
My latest work, wanted to get some house'ish summer feelings ^^
Your drums feel a little dry, but apart from that it sounds very soothing on the ears and is very catchy! To fix the drum issue try using pre shifted claps of some sort, or adding some reverb to your snares/claps (in moderation, don't over-use reverb or it'll mud your tracks up) Anyways, here's a new sound on my kinda bullshit/boredom page 70s TV show sounding french dubstep shit, I honestly can't think of any other way to describe it

I wanna make something brutal and harsh but I cant think of anything. Something simular to this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x57ZPMyS4w0 Like seriously this should not be this hard. Anybody have any ideas? Or samples?
Better? :)
Tons better, see what I mean? The slightest shit can make the world of difference Also sampled 50 cent and turned it into a justice/uppermost style french track
