this is so tight. good job man. did you record each track soloed or on top of the other tracks? just recorded the guitar and bass for this. trying to make a sampled feel without sampling
Thanks!! I'm not 100% I get what you mean, but I think the answer is that I recorded the two main harmony parts to metronome, laid out a quick midi drum line, then started layering on bass, rhythm guitar, and kept adding the other parts over top. I've been working on re-recording the parts more cleanly, but for me it's definitely more fun to record parts with every other instrument playing. I cant listen to your piece since I'm at work, but I'll try to get to it once I'm home!
After many years of Electronic I started this piece and found myself flowing with it.Although I have not done a Trance track in over 10 years, this was the turnout. Any advice on the production end or even on the composition end would be appreciated.
lordrushx1, would you be so kind as to first leave some feedback for others when posting your own work? Thanks :)

You make an excellent point for recording them isolated, I just generally hope to catch issues while I record. It's not always so difficult as I'll generally have my instruments monitoring much louder than they'll actually be in the mix, but it's definitely true that such noisy tracks can hide a lot of flaws, and I know a lot of professionals insist that guitar parts need to sound flawless while 100% clean toned before adding distortion or effects.
I do =O) However...sometimes there are a flood of tracks coming through...can't get to all of em =O)
I don't want to escalate this, but the last time you left feedback was three weeks ago. I hope asking that you to listen to and comment on one song when posting your own isn't too much.
Thank you biscuit boy for taking up the role of feedback nazi, not even being sarcastic [editline]14th May 2014[/editline] You know i'm tempted to post older tracks that I posted here before just to get some feedback that I didn't receive when I posted them
I'm glad you approve! As long as it's what the majority wants, I plan to keep at it. Anyways, as long as you post feedback I think it's totally fine to repost some older stuff.
Ooh, the chiptune part is very cool. Bass nice, mm that funky jam. Quality jam content. During the breakdown I'm not sure the staccato chords are my favorite, could use a little more lead in or something to smooth the transitions out even if you still want to keep it snappy. Speaking of the opposite of that! I added another repeat of that song from before and I've upped it to 8 guitar parts :\ Not sure that paid off but it was fun to make. Took me like a billion takes for each part.
Sounds like something from Sonic
Haha, is that a good thing? ( FOOLLLOOWW MEEEEEEE SET MEE FREEEEEEEEEEEEE)

Even if the game is shit, you can bet your ass the soundtrack is fucking on point. The VST completely falls on its face starting at :24. Still, I definitely admire your effort, it's a very faithful recreation. Any particular reason it doesn't exactly end and sort-of just cuts off?
weh weh
The starting of this is so sick, especially when the bassline first starts. Howcome it's called "forgive me, flylo" though? I haven't really heard much of his shit, does some of it sound like this?

And normally the song loops and there is no set end. I still need to add a fade out but that'll be done once I get vocals. [editline]13th May 2014[/editline] Here's an actual finished one
can anyone guess the original song?
MonkeyFun, since I've been tasked with asking- could you please pick a song or two from someone else and give a comment on it when you're posting your own work? Thanks! Besides the cheesy guitar making its comeback at 0:35, it's really awesome. Feels very 'retro fighting arcade game menu' or something of that sort.
can anyone guess the original song?
Haha fucking deus ex.. I still haven't played through that game because it manages to bug itself to an unplayable state for me.. This is sounding pretty good btw, but I'm not sure if I'm a fan of the bell. It's only a minute clip but the bell starts annoying me towards the end lol. You could bring it in only after the bassline starts (0.23) or something.
just recorded the guitar and bass for this. trying to make a sampled feel without sampling
Holy shit, believe that I'm not exaggerating when I say I fucking love this. It just makes my insides feel like melting. Please give me more of this, I'm addicted. I actually feel weird posting mine now, I just dig that so much. Ugh! Rerecorded every part more cleanly, even applied a light brush of compressor. Promise I won't post again until I've added verses or made it significantly different somehow.
I'm just gonna say now that I'm really terrible at this whole song-making business, but I think I've almost got something going here. Intro's total garbage and it's repetitive even after trying to fix that, but I figure I could toss this in here and see what you guys have to say, since I could really use the advice before I try to go any further with it. Now that that's out of the way, this is just something I threw together to see what I might be able to do with VOPM with Ristar instruments + SN-EMU + a couple random drum sounds crushed to sound similar to the YM2612's DAC. Didn't really have anything particular in mind while making it, other than "level theme I guess". I sort of like what I have right now, but I'm not really sure where to go next. I'll sleep on it for now, and if anyone has any suggestions for improvements, I'd be happy to hear them. Also, the title is temporary, I just named it the first thing that came to mind. :v:
Ahah this is like straight out of an old MS-DOS game. Maybe even toejam and earl. I love it!
Everything about this is awesome but the mixing. I was wondering if you could give me the samples to see if I could mix it and see if I can do any good. If I can I'll explain to you what I did to get it to sound better. If not, I'll just explain the problems with the recordings.
biscuit-boy is the hero this thread deserves
Oh my god, I love you guys! I have to run to the shower before they start cleaning but once I'm back I'm going to listen to your guys stuff and I would seriously die to have to you teach me how to mix and master! [editline]14th May 2014[/editline]
Posting this again lol.
Very sboopy! This one's a little tough to imagine a real-world application for, but I imagine if it was done logistically it would fit well with either the build-up to a boss fight, or even the actual fight. Like, it reminds me of a slightly more upbeat Metroid Prime kind of song, where you've added almost like a touch of jazz or uh...hell I'm not really that cultured I don't fucking know hahaha. Maybe it would fit better in a modern mystery-detective-criminal-investigation sort of sequence in a show or film. The sub parts are reaaally cool, and you've done a great job of keeping everything varied and non-repetitive. 1:30 is a really nice part, but I would've personally liked to see it taken even further and given more intensity, maybe a version where it kicks off and the last 3/4s has a much more upfront beat. Just a thought or two :P Either way, the more I listen the more I like it. Very cool.
quality video for quality 1:00 AM remix
But you did the remix? The beat is actually pretty cool, and I think it's hilarious that the vocals for the verse don't even really fit into the key until the chorus. My final thoughts: Sick moves, Sick Effects, Sweet Lighting, Big Fun.
Testing some audio design stuff. It's...definitely a thing. My roommate says it's good white noise? Also, even though I like ya, the 'post one song give one song feedback rule' still applies, even to you :( sorry bb pls givv som1 feedbak also

It's very calm and doesn't have a real high point. you don't have to do it, I could just see this being in a game or something.
thx @ u bb <3
