tried a slower orchestral (?) piece
a disagree, milkbagz? why? that isn't telling me anything :(
I was only disagreeing with it being orchestral, it just doesn't sound anywhere near orchestral to me, especially with most of the instruments being synthesized.
Anyway, I think if you replaced the synth it all starts off with it would be better, after the really distorted one comes in they sort of blend together and it gets a little messy. The only other thing I'd suggest is making the kick & snare from the drums that start at 1:51 just a little louder, I feel like they get drowned out a bit towards the end.
The transitions are nice, even with the same melody playing throughout most of it, it doesn't feel repetitive. It sounds suspenseful too.
I'm working on this track again after having made it a while ago. I remember just dropping it here without having given any feedback because I didn't know about the rule that was established, but I will repost and do my part.

I like all that reverb & delay, makes it sounds really open. The transitions are great, and the melodies are too. I didn't really dislike any part of this to be honest.

Your prog game is so strong. Pure porcupine tree at the start before launching into a pink floyd/vangelis sort of thing. How do you get that guitar tone during the intro?

this legitimately makes me feel like i'm on acid, three thumbs up
Remember to vary midi intensity on any consecutive notes, the piano gets a bit fakey at some points but generally does well. When the strings come in I'd like more harmony parts and less parroting the main line. A few note transitions are super cheese but generally it sounds convincing enough.
Echo/sub part at 1:20 is mega cool, I like that. 1:40 it would really kick ass to have some smaller subtle solo string parts teetering about in the background to add some flavor. I hate to think you're squandering a song with so much potential on "uuugh girls y" but I still like it a lot regardless.
As for me, I've been working on this for the last two days on and off. All acoustic guitar and even real glock, which is kinda cool for me I think. Not sure this one is worth eventually coming back to, melody feels too simple. IDK :\
Really calming, love the glock too, adds a cutesy touch to it all. Sounds like it could be in an apple commercial haha

dope stuff, really like the use of reverb on those vocals and on the drums.

27 kbps. I cant load any songs. <;L
Im really trying to critique all your songs everyone but having to restart the song every 4 seconds really ruins the experience.

I could really use some easy critique on this tho. Its an intro to some funky drum track I may or may not do.

the production on this is really tight, though i'm not sure the synthwork is interesting enough. it's so repetitive it becomes forgettable, and the lack of mid-range makes the synthwork sound pretty hollow. throw in some extra shit, switch the melody up at parts, change the drum programming in places and see how that goes i suppose.
anyway, this isn't really a call for feedback (though if you feel like it go ahead) but i know some of you followed my production at times; i uploaded some of my favourites on my soundcloud once more:

Thanks. That guitar at the beginning is processed through a really warm overdrive, a bandpass filter slightly cutting out the highs and lows, and on top of that I just have a very slight oscillating pitch modulation going on.

Really nice, I like the airy quality of the track. The decrease in volume at 1.35 is a little weird, and the main repeating synth line could use a bit of variation.
I need a little help. Writing a tune in 4/4, and there's one bar with two 4th notes on the first two beats, but I need to distribute 3 different notes evenly over the 3th and 4th beat, without breaks. Basically, I want it to play 1 and 2 and 3 and 4. I remember reading on this when I first learned music theory, but it has escaped me.
One fourth and two eight will do the trick. :)
One fourth and two eight will do the trick. :)
They're not equal in length, though. Of course, I can understand that and play it anyway, but I want to write properly.
I really can't see how you're going to be able to fit three notes into the last two bars AND have them both play on the 3rd and 4th while still having all three of them the same length, you could put three eights in and have two of them dotted, but that also breaks it.
The way you've written it out, (1a2a3a4) you've just described even quarter notes, or rather eighths with eighth rests between. I'm still confused about what you're asking for.
Regardless, using basic math and fractions you should easily be able to solve this for yourself, just divide the remainder of the measure, starting from the note you want, by how many notes. My guess is that you may be asking about triplet eights, which is the case if you want three notes over two beats. That or perhaps dotted (1.5 value length) eight notes. If I was at my computer I'd just test this out for you but until then the best I can do is speculate wildly.
[editline]4th June 2014[/editline]
Yeah, Skeeter, I think his 1a2a3a4 description is causing the issue, I don't think that's actually what he's after.
Oh right, triplet eights! That's what I wanted to remember. Thanks!

I made the notes I want to play in bold in that post. A bad way to explain, but you already answered the question anyway.

Love this dude, my only problem is the kick drum you picked, the sample is very weak, as in it has almost no punch to it whatsoever, and the tail feels like it's muddying up the low end too. Apart from that though it's a really cool sounding track, man, sick 80s vibes from it

The lower end's kind of messy & the hihats are panned a little far to the right, everything else sounds nice though. The delayed snares & open hats are sick.

It's not the type of music I listen to, but I really like the way the bass & lead sound together. Everything's mixed clean as hell too.

I've been working on this the past week, on & off:

And this one a while before that, haven't finished it yet though:

Does this sound happy or sad to you? I started out going for a sad sound, but when I listen to it now it sounds like it could be either, and I don't really want that.

Have you considered sending your stuff out to proper rap labels man? Your beats are just the absolute fucking best, and this level of quality should NOT be going to waste
My sister's boyfriend is almost like family to us, and he's a great musician! Here's a couple samples:

I love this beat. My only problem is the crackle's you got going on. Sounds like it's clipping. Otherwise though nice beat. I'd love to hear some rhymes over this.

Soundcloud is being a bitch. I'll critique some more stuff later when I'm not starving to death. Here's something I just finished writing up:

Thinking about making the widening the attack on the first octave vocals a bit so it's out of line with the beat. Also thinking about adding a bit more on the end with maybe some strings choral stuff. Anyone think I should add that or do you think this short piece is good as is?

Ugh how do you get over stuck ideas.
Trying to add on to my song previous but have no idea what to put ontop of it. Is it good as is? (I made it a bit louder in my final version but thats about it).
maybe move onto something else and come back?
that's what i do
it's really frustrating sometimes because you just want to finish it

Pretty nice. Personally I didn't like the kick sample, and It felt kinda empty without a melody or something playing over the pads and bells.

Finished up the mix for this one.
More IDM/acid stuff
