Aight so I did a remix on that long track I made, here it is (I think I made the drums a bit better as well as you commented on redBadger, I also decided to pan it into the middle, and tried to gate out the snare drum a bit more by lowpass&highpassfiltering below 500 and above 3500hz, then I cut the middle parts as well to get both bottom and high end, then just a gate.

This is a pretty long track, so...
A few select moments where it changes intensity;
1:42 (Solo time, both bass and guitar)
3:12 (more laid-back, guitar solo here as well)
4:08 (time for a bass solo again)
4:36 (building up)
5:24 (back into laid-back territory, very percussive with acoustic drums)
7:16 (the lowest point of the song, very scaled back and almost dreamy)
7:41 (last guitar solo)
9:52 (kicking back into high intensity, ending)
If you just want to check out a single part if you're digging the groove. :)

bit heavier on the bass, usin some 808 samples
I'd love to see what you could do if you distorted that hihat and really made it like a crash, I think it could add a lot to it since snare and kick both got an almost overcompressed sound to it. Actually, the whole track sounds very compressed, I think if you would let it get some headroom (the whole track) it would sound a lot better and beefier.
Other than that, I dig the groove a lot!

(apologies for private link I can't really upload a WIP when it's this early in the process)
I'm not a huge fan of the attack on that intro, the sound of it when it isn't filtered however is solid, and yes it really sounds very Daft Punk and it is definietly a solid thing!
I think if you would put the bass in a backbeat, so that it first sidechains (and then the bass drops in on the backbeat) it would be really groovy!
Got to say the drop is really sweet as well, are you planning on putting some melody over this? I think some arpeggiator on the higher frequencies (something an octave or two above the main synth) could also make it sweet as peas, and some melody that stays solid and not sidechained with long outdrawn notes could make it even better.
Looking forward to see how it sounds like when you've got a solid kick there as well :)

I've been working on this the past week, on & off:

And this one a while before that, haven't finished it yet though:

Does this sound happy or sad to you? I started out going for a sad sound, but when I listen to it now it sounds like it could be either, and I don't really want that.
I def think you could go for a more reverby kick, and maybe even get it really booming and low on that first track! I love the snare, sounds very jazzy.
Something I definietly think you could do is draw out the intro, it sounds like you're making a chill ambient track and with what you've got going it could go on for a few minutes without it getting too stale.
Only thing I can really think of that puts me off is that the kick sounds as if it goes out of rhythm sometimes, the snare I like how it drags on, the kick I don't think should be like that, make it the heart that keeps on trucking instead. :)
The second track sounds like a mix between happiness and sadness, like a tears of joy when you leave a friend for some time, or knowing that everything is going to turn out right even though times are rough right now.
Come to think of it, I think the sense of thing being out of rhythm might just be because of how the synths play. I think letting them stick in the background more on that second track I think would really make it a lot better, because the groove on the melody is just sick, Nice work on both tracks!
[editline]9th June 2014[/editline]
I love this beat. My only problem is the crackle's you got going on. Sounds like it's clipping. Otherwise though nice beat. I'd love to hear some rhymes over this.
[editline]7th June 2014[/editline]
Soundcloud is being a bitch. I'll critique some more stuff later when I'm not starving to death. Here's something I just finished writing up:

Thinking about making the widening the attack on the first octave vocals a bit so it's out of line with the beat. Also thinking about adding a bit more on the end with maybe some strings choral stuff. Anyone think I should add that or do you think this short piece is good as is?
I think there might be too much reverb on the piano, strings I think could be pretty rad! A cello or something that lays down a melody, violas to put more depth on the chords and perhaps have it play on for some time at the start, let it build up longer and then let that middle be as short as intensive as it is right now.
Not a huge fan of the vocals, is it kontakt you're using?
I think some other samples (Record some claps of your own if you can!) would make it a lot bigger, it doesn't sound like you've done a lot of EQing on the percussive stuff, you should definietly try that.
I think having more effects on that main synth could be cool too, reverb and delays and stuff!
[editline]9th June 2014[/editline]
Pretty nice. Personally I didn't like the kick sample, and It felt kinda empty without a melody or something playing over the pads and bells.

I think some effects on this as well could make it cool as hell, distortion, delay, autopanning, maybe some breaks here and there on the drums and it could be cool!

I love IDM, and it still took me until the third time I listened this to sort of understand it - not that it's a bad thing though. I don't really like the drums (just out of personal taste, there's nothing wrong with them), but the lead and bassline are so great. The lead sounds like it's melting or something, but it's really nice at the same time. And the bassline sounds aggressive as hell. The transitions are good too, it definitely doesn't get repetitive at all.

I started this off as a hip hop track, and after adding in a break from one of my older tracks that was never finished, I selected only the starting of it, which made it keep looping, so that I could make it match the tempo correctly. I forgot to disable the rest of the plugins and shit, so it was playing only to the first snare before repeating again. It sounded fucking sick, so I just cut all the other shit out and built on top of that. Only 11 seconds long so far, but it got me all excited and shit and I feel like I gotta share it already.

Well I can't really give a full run down on such a general question but I use FL and most of it is just layering instruments in piano rolls at 200bpm. Starting with a really simplistic beat, and working it up from there filling in the spaces according to the rhythm.
Don't beat urself up so much man. The last thing you want to do is stop trying. Everyone gets musicians block and frustration, but keeping yourself down doesn't make it better. And don't hesitate to ask specifics yo, if you want to know anything I'm not keeping secrets over here.

Not a fan of the drums right at the beginning, they seem almost off time, but get better around the 0.09 mark. I like what you're doing with the drums, but I don't like the samples that much.
The middle was a bit to abstract for me, not my kind of thing, especially when compared to the beginning of the song.
I do like the discordant 30's vibe you've got going on, but as I said, I'm really not a fan of the drum samples, the the snare and the crash (I think) really stand out as though they shouldn't be there. I think maybe some more natural sounding acoustic samples would work better.
Damn, this all seems kinda harsh, but like, I hope you get what I mean:v

If you want feedback on your tracks, you have to give feedback on someone else's first, those are the rules!
But you do have to let him know those are the rules first before you go on shouting at him ;)
On the other hand, all of the regulars in this thread, you're making my life! I've started working 12 hour shifts and have almost no time to check the thread, but I haven't had to ask someone to post feedback in days, it's incredible <3
And thanks to everyone like absolalone111 who've helped enforce the rules, thank you! - I only ask that you try to be nice to them and remember they probably didn't know any better.

I feel like the lack of a melody detracts from the nature of the song. The first section has a very boisterous sound, and I like the ambient sounds that you included with it but it still needs something more cohesive in my opinion to tie it together. I'm not a big fan of the middle part. Same complaints as the first part for the last section. I like the theme that the piece has; it just needs something more to keep it together.

Woah I really like that. Its really short though, you are right. It really reminds me of like Ghost in Shell or something along those veins. Nitty gritty city action espionage kind of thing. I'd try a solo cello for a melody line; something haunting/morose, but that's just my input.
Anyway I just finished recording this thing. Its been a while since I recorded. I took a main line from an older song I was working on and decided to use it in this piece. I hope its decent.

Great groove and vibes in both of these, the second one definitely seems more sad than happy to me. That said I don't really like the kick in the first track it seems to be really punchy with a lot of high end so it sticks out quite a lot. The snares are great in both tracks, really snappy.

Kind of reminds me of some of the early 2000s dance music that was popular. The vocal chops are nice I think they could be a tiny bit quieter though. The arp is really nice and cheery and fits in really well with the chime flurry thing at ~50.

Fixed link. And it's sick, gives a really cool math-rocky vibe. Some of the drum timing is a bit off, there's too much sub bass in the kick drum, and the drum sound gets really weird and out of phase in the chorus.
