And now, something I made these past two days in the rainy weather. Not entirely sure what I can call this track genre-wise.
I think the kick would sound a lot nicer if you cut the high end out of its reverb.
There we go. PS: I tough I was in editing mode.
I like the awkward timing a lot in this. If you do plan on changing it, as suggested above, I hope you still keep it just a little bit messy.
And I tried to tweak the drop in this. Any better?
I think it would really be better off without the vocals. It doesn't really add anything to the song when you can hardly understand them.
I think the kick would sound a lot nicer if you cut the high end out of its reverb.
Hm, there might be something to that. I'll keep this in mind the next time I make stuff.
Seriously I can't stop listening to this, I love it
Thanks dude, really appreciate it. This thread is a great motivator.
I started working on what I was hoping to be sort of a house EDM-style track, it morphed into something completely different along the way since I both don't exactly know how to automate things in FL (or rather said, I'm too lazy :v) and because I could not find good synth sounds... So here's something happy and weird, it is a complete mess mixwise and I would love to hear opinions from others since I've been sitting with this almost the whole day and I've grown too accustomed to the way it sounds.
And I tried to tweak the drop in this. Any better?
That synth that starts this is really harsh, you should look into cutting some high-end on it, I tried to listen to it at a high volume and I just couldn't, which is a shame because I dig what you've got going here. Maybe drop a sidechain on the bass so the kick can peak through? [editline]17th July 2014[/editline]
Anyway here's this song that I've just completed, first one I've released without samples (minus the drums) I've made some of the instruments very slightly overdriven, I think it makes them sound more powerful but I'm not sure if it detracts from the song as a whole.
The highpitched accordionish sound could probably have some of that overdrive cut back, it cuts way too much into the ear when it really strays of. I like the mix of cleaner instruments with overdriven stuff, it sounds pretty cool! I would keep the overdrive on most instruments, although dial back on some (such as that accordionish instrument that sort of just sweeps by every now and then). The outro is really sick, I love it! [editline]17th July 2014[/editline]
There we go. PS: I tough I was in editing mode.
Others have mentioned it and I'll do the same, you should tweak the rhythm and quantizise it, it sounds very messy when things jump into eachother and the rhythm is everywhere. It definietly has potential in my opinion, both as it is now (in length and compositon-wise) and could also work as something with a singer on top of it if you dialed back the tempo 10-15 bpm, or even more.
I made an EDM track in one night, i feel like it came out great albeit it rough around the edges in some parts. Give it a listen, hopefully it gets the feet bouncing haha.
the bassy drones kind of remind me of Boris' Dronevil 2, love those scratchy noices at the end pretty chill, though a bit too solitary, clean and empty for my tastes. sounds like background music from a VR mission in a game it's been a while but here's a song, made it for the upcoming facepunch collaboration album, noisey doom metal esque stuff
I like the riffs and the drums work well with it but man it is a little too loud or there is too much noise in there. You can see in the wave some parts looks like a straight line, I would try and bring the levels down a bit. But I like where its going :)

Dude this is so sick haha, love these sorts of things, my only problem is your timing, sounds like you were having some latency issues when playing? I'm not sure but whatever it still sounds pretty tight, just stick it to a better quality piano vst (e.g; one of kontakt's or something) and it'll sound awesome :v: Here's a track I've spent more or less the entire past 3 weeks on. This is killing me as I can't write anything beyond the final part of the wip, so if anyone could give me overall advice on what/where to go next that'd be greatly appreciated https://soundcloud.com/morganhicks/one-less-day/s-44N2j

I also think you could use a little less overdrive on the accordion, and around 1:00, it sounds like it hit 0 on the V.U. I'd review the mix on that specific part, but besides it sounds good. I've took a personal challenge to compose music on different styles, and here is one of them. Something like just the drums and some other synth looping and looping. Try new synths also, experimenting with new sounds always brings new ideas. It's really good so far, please post it when finished.

I'm up at 4:00 in the morning and I made this in less than thirty minutes: It's all Sega Genesis synths. I'll do some critiquing when I get up in the morning.
ah snip tho
Feedbacks dude, or else...
Reminds me a lot of the song "Goodbye Horses" with the two-chord intro! There's something about the rhythm at the beginning, it feels as if the kick isn't completely on the beat, I'm not sure if it is the kick that does this or if it is the clap that does this, or even the extremely low sub (the sub sounds amazing by the way!). There's something about the sidechain and the way the melody just switches up completly in volume, I think this track would benefit a lot from having the melody being up in your face a lot more, the drums sound very nice either way, good job :) [editline]18th July 2014[/editline]
I've took a personal challenge to compose music on different styles, and here is one of them.
This is so cozy, I like the turn it does around 1 minute mark, it goes from being so happy and joyful to almost sinister and evil, as if there's a party in the village and everyone laughs and sings, but dark skies assemble over the peaceful village and things just takes a turn for the worse. And then it goes back to normal. I like it, nicely composed. :) [editline]18th July 2014[/editline]
I'm up at 4:00 in the morning and I made this in less than thirty minutes: It's all Sega Genesis synths. I think it might be because of how similar the melody feels to the track NickoDomene posted, at least the part after the minute mark on his track. (looking back they don't sound similar at all, I get a similar feel in my gut however.) I would love to hear this track with more defined drums, because the part after 1:30 is really solid stuff! Here's a revision of the track I posted earlier, a happy jumpy track I'm working on: Right now it feels like a bit of a mess, things that sound too loud and such. I would be forever grateful if someone could take a listen at the track and give me a pretty thorough list of where they think things should be in the mix, and also point out what works well with this mix. :)

The only thing I will say, and is probably personal opinion because I know it's part of the genre but, I think the hi-hats and perhaps even the arp/lead may be a touch too loud. As for the kicks I think they would benefit with a little retiming in that sense, maybe one is a little off here or there. I'll have a closer look. But yeah since its progressive the main synth comes in later in the song. Here's a link to the same song in Soundcloud, not sure why I posted the youtube link. I guess because I'm new to this thread. The main guitar? (might be a synth guitar not sure) has a nice melody to it. Overall I like the track, not much to complain about for the kind of song your going for. The drums are a bit 'flat' sounding, but I'm not sure what I would change about them.

Kind of verging in The Sims territory but not quite hitting it. Along with that fade in at the beginning i'd experiment with throwing in a lpf or a hpf in at the beginning to accompany the fade in. The only thing that comes to mind right now that's giving me the same idea is madonna's hung up at the beginning if you wanted to hear what that sounds like. It sounds like a low quality piano synth. The melody and construction of the song is decent though and I like the minimal progressive approach. Keep doing your thing and sharpening your skills. [editline]19th July 2014[/editline]
I like it, I'm not really one for drone, but it seems like it would be quite a good interlude between two aster songs, or could be used to speed things up a bit. Pretty gritty with a tense build up, the kind of thing that although I wouldn't listen to it while doing stuff, I would find pretty unnerving in a horror film or game. The choral part is pretty nice, it sets the tone for the rest of the track quite nicely I wrote a track using the homebrew software Nitrotracker on DS, meaning that I was working within it's limitations (it's still unfinished) so the track only uses 4 channels, and has no note effects other than volume control. I'm aware that my track has some flaws. I wrote it a month ago, and I've already noticed a few things, but it'd be nice of some people could maybe reaffirm them, or point out ones I haven't yet noticed so that I can improve
A bit loud however given your limitations this is a pretty cool retro piece that could easily fit into an old game. Nice piece. [editline]19th July 2014[/editline]
This was pretty cool, I can totally see it used on an old GBA game. I kind of got bored through the second half, though I kind of hate "ambient pieces" but goddamn good job on this. Very unsettling, this would scare the fuck out of me if I heard it in a game/move/walking down the street. I couldn't get this 65daysofstatic song out of my head all throughout my shift, so after work I made a cover of it. tried to make it as close to something 65 would make as I could
Could use a bit of production and mastering work. I don't feel like turning my volume up to hear the quiet stuff then turning it back down again when it gets loud. Great mixing job. Your weakest sounds had to be the strings though, sounded the most unreal of all your instruments. Great job on this despite it's few flaws. [editline]19th July 2014[/editline] Jazz Jackrabbit Main Theme Remastered. Enjoy guys
The bass and drums in that sound fine, but the horns sound pretty fake. I'm not sure why that is, but it's especially prevalent in the fast-paced notes. The bass and drums sound really cool with each other. It sounds like a jazzy cartoon theme.
