Critique for critique is the rule of the thread. If you want someone to listen and critique your work you need to critique others. One for every song. Keep this in mind for the future :)
im too lazy ill just delete my post lol
That's a five star post right there.
The bass and drums in that sound fine, but the horns sound pretty fake. I'm not sure why that is, but it's especially prevalent in the fast-paced notes. The bass and drums sound really cool with each other. It sounds like a jazzy cartoon theme.
Yeah I'm trying to look for a jazz brass patch to fix this issue haha.
what's a good synth to use to get that kinda downtempo loungey sound? 3x OSC doesn't have that specific unnamed factor that I'm looking for there was a guy here called luke camelo a while back and he made literally the dopest shit I ever heard, that kinda thing
I've took a personal challenge to compose music on different styles, and here is one of them. I tried to do something french-ish, though it's not 3/4 as the usual.
Damn, you should do soundtracks or something if you're that versatile.
I just finished this one up. I finally feel like my production is getting to a spot where I'm happy with what I'm producing and I'm just starting to fight the "get your music in people's ears" battle, so if you guys dig it any reposts/shares/whatever support would be unfathomably appreciated! Thanks!
Really damn cool. Not big into this genre but I fucking love the unpredictability of it and the crazy variations in the rhythm. [editline]21st July 2014[/editline] Here's a chill little progression I wrote, probably gonna make a song from it (edit: added more): https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1462509/hftf.mp3
Posted comments on the track on soundcloud :) Tried to give you a lot since my private track posts always get missed haha. I just finished this one up. Thanks!
Holy shit, that reese is fucking massive. Props, man, what I'd give to produce something like that! As for criticism, my only comment would be on the snare/clap, I think it could do with cutting through the mix a little more when the heavy bass is playing. I added some bass and synths to that thing I was working on:

I really wish I was any good at electronic stuff, I just love bleepy bloopy things. What software do you use for these? I use Reason for quickly pulling things together but I find some of the sounds inspiration killing :v: I was reminded of my old BBC Micro computer and it's "Bleeps and farts" for music so I wrote this little thing, it starts off with the "real" instruments then at around 0:40 it turns into a syncopated chiptune interpretation.
The boops in it are literally just very short, high notes through a single square wave oscillator, with some delay and reverb (maybe a phaser, but that didn't change the sound much).
As for me, I had a brief moment of 'fuck the edm scene' so i started writing some chillout to calm myself down
This is really nice dude. Please continue it and post it here!
About the 8 bit part, what was really great about 8bit part is that the composers used A LOT of counterpoint knowledge to give the music movement and still don't bother the listener with the crappy sound of the synth. Although you may not want to change the harmony, try experimenting with more movement on each voice. [editline]21st July 2014[/editline]
Here's a thing I'm working on: Through the magic of computers, I can appear to know how to play guitar.
As I see it, you were going for something very simple harmonically. That being the truth, the melody can't go outside the chord field. It sounds like an indie song, try getting a vocalist here on Facepunch and get him to sing the melody.

Super smooth, the sounds and bass are just perfect, really resonates. Continue!

Diggin the slide on that one sound, not sure how to explain it.
Here's something I have been working on lately.
Really liked how the bass adds to the song, not just accompanies it. I think you could add more elements to its climax rather than just the hi-hat-thing. But it sounds good already! Here's something I made, inicially, trying to do a fughe, but in the middle I kinda lost myself and just let the music flow.
Here's something I have been working on lately.
That's pretty sick dude, love the brass (i think), it really pulls it all together. Something about the ping in the beginning doesn't stack very well and kind of hurts your ears especially as it progresses to the brass part. That's the only complaint I have, other than that good job. :) Here's an EDM track I made a few days ago. I need to work on a few little things but im pleased with how its went so far. It's nice though. It'd be nicer with a better VST but something tells me you're more worried about the composition which is fine
That's pretty sick dude, love the brass (i think), it really pulls it all together.

Nice! The lyrics are literally just random words i put together disgustingly.

I think the drums could do with cutting through the mix a little more, mostly the kick. Just mixed the jazzy backing track a bit better, added some more piano and terrible guitar :v::

Not actual instruments? My only problem with this is that the snare in the second half's velocity sounds a bit repetitive for my taste, there doesn't seem to be much change in the dynamics of the snare rolls/flams/whatever, but apart from that this track is jazzy as fuck, got the image of a band playing it on a black n white tv in the 40s :v: Here's my thing, some kinda melodic-rather-than-growl-based glitch hop I'm planning to finish https://soundcloud.com/morganhicks/2wenty-350/s-LaW8v

Oh man, that song is awesome. I love the organ-y synth at the start, although the piercing melody synth that comes in is a little too piercing I think. The production is lovely, the sub bass sits beautifully and the drums are good! Here's another little thing I've been working on, some dnb:
I decided to make some sort of followup to the track Down In New Orleans, hoping to get a similar groove, but this time I'm working more on chord progressions, and making it a bit more simplified. There are some things which I know needs to be added, one is a strong lead melody, another one is some automations to make the transitions seem more natural. I'm a bit unsure about the middle part right now, currently it is a(nother) rhythm pause where I play the bongo drums as a steady rhythm and some freestyling on my djembe, I'm debating with myself whether I should have a solo instrument there as well or of I should just remove it completely, or shorten it. I would love to hear peoples opinion on what could be added, I really feel there's lacking something more in the rhythm section as well, some synth or pad or piano. What do you guys think?
Here's something I have been working on lately.
Goddamn are those some sweet chords you're laying down, I feel like the buildup with the intro sets a wholly different tone than what the main part delievers however. It sounds like something faster should come around, you know? I'm looking forward to see what you'll do to progress the track, since the main part is slick as hell. Good work! Maybe even layer a piano on top of it to get some snap to the attack? I love the intro until 0:14, after that I sadly lose interest. It sounds nice! I think even recording another one and hardpan them both left/right and give one a harder more trebleish sound could be really cool. I'm really digging the small guitar parts as well, and I have to say you laid the acoustic guitar really nicely in the mix. :) The weakest part of the track is probably the singer, not a fan at all of her voice :/ The track however is really solid, well done on your part. :)

Then it was just normal settings, a bit of reverb from the amp and some EQ. The acoustic just came together quite naturally too, I barely changed anything She's a good singer irl but as I said I spliced that from a demo we did which isn't even in the same tempo as the recording I did
