listened to some bits and pieces
pretty chill stuff, mostly sounds very nicely produced, but christ some of those cymbal sounds are awful
they sound like default hihats you'd get with a music making program
especially in tracks 1, 2 and 5 they sound like they're just straight up midi cymbals and it really breaks the otherwise great atmosphere
other than that it's great from what i listened to, fantastic album cover too
Thank you so much for the feedback! About the cymbals, most of them are just simple open hihats but I never thought they would sound so aggresive. Most of them were just used to create a feeling of rhythm (probably influenced by deep house). And I have alse been struggling a lot with mastering...
Nevertheless thank you for listening!

You should probably take a step back and take a breather if someone being sincere and actually giving feedback after being told of the rules makes you this mad mate :v:

The piano is really, really harsh, it cuts the ears when you crank the volume, dial back on the high mids (I assume around 3-5khz), there are other ways to get a similar effect of what you're after without making those frequencies like giving it a slight dose of distortion (and having a low mix-in on the distorted signal).
I really like bass on this one and the drums are really well mixed, are the drums made by you?
And the bass, it sounds it is a combination of a bass being played with pick and then some synth layered on top of it, how did you do that one? It is pretty damn sweet!
Now on to my track!
I'd love to work with someone on making a funky track, I've got a bass line laid down and some preliminary drums (which I might have to find better samples for), check it out if you want to make something funky or if you have any good ideas on what could be added.
It would be really sweet if someone could point me in the direction to find a good organ vst, maybe something that has really synthesized strings too?

I personally think the basskick is a little too overpowering, maybe just a little bit less decay on the sample might even it out. As far as a good VST for organs and strings and all that, Edirol Orchestral has some pretty decent sounding patches. I could never really get myself to like the synthesized instrument sounds, but if you know your way around synths you can design some that sound just as good if not better. (Another option would be to sample an instrument and add loop regions, but that doesn't sound the best if you try to move the notes around too much.)

Acid vibes with some more breaks. Also I'm loving Harmor.

the mix on this is sounding a little weak. i'd think about bringing out some of the mid frequencies on the acid loop, and making a few changes to the drums. most notably compressing them, pushing some high frequencies up and making them feel snappier and more coherent. at the moment the muddiness of the mix is making it difficult to actually focus on anything in specific and hold it throughout the entire track.
the modulation on the acid sounds nice (though it doesn't really sound like a 303), what vst are you using to emulate it? nice job overall. just needs some work to the mix.

Digging the acid itself, but the mix feels a little weak like Bobie said. It's mostly missing a nice sub. I think simply adding a sine bass to go along with the acid would phatten the whole thing up.

I haven't really posted anything myself in a while I think. Just finished up this industrial hardcore track I started a few months ago. I have this stupid 'workflow' where I work on a bunch of tracks at the same time over the course of several months, and then slowly (try to) finish them all. I'm calling this one done because else I'll just tweak it endlessly:

That's very much true, got another kick sample now (and a snare sample, both of which I've used before that I think sound pretty good and works better with the overall feel of the song), nice vst, thanks! I also found another pretty cool VST that simulates strings good enough, http://www.dskmusic.com/dsk-overture/

It seems good except that the sounds feel kind of twangy, the kicks hit hard but it feels a little off. Sorry for the horrible criticism i just can't place my finger on it exactly. It has something going for it but the intro in particular needs a little more flushing out IMO.
Made a new track that i think is basically done albeit a few tweaks here and there. It's EDM mixed with dubsteppy kind of stuff, wait for that drop! :P

I'm not familiar with too many musical terms to describe music, really, but I do like this. Your drop is more satisfying then most dubstep songs (although I understand that it's not really a dubstep song, just 'dubsteppy'). The beat is good. The things you're doing with the synths(..???) are fantastic, really.
Only complaint I'd have is the weird flanger stuff going on at the end and in the middle doesn't sound as good as the rest of the song, I guess? That's personal preference of course, but it seems a little weak in comparison to the rest of the song.
Also, hi. I've been using FL studio for about 2 weeks now, barring the times I messed with it months ago before dropping it (as you can see if you view my soundcloud profile). Knowing that, I'm super inexperienced in making music in general, but I'm actually somewhat satisfied with this song/beat/tune/??? I created recently, and I was wondering what people's thoughts were? I'm also not really sure what genre this would belong in. It's very chill, I guess? Definitely a calm sorta beat/tune or something of that caliber.

Aside from that, I've also sort-of attempted to make mixes of things , among other things. I'm hoping to actually keep making music and improving, which is actually a rather sudden decision considering I didn't have any interest in doing this 2 and a half weeks ago. But yeah, enough about that, thoughts on anything?

The kick definitively needs some more "punch", as the synths you use make the kick almost dissapear, which is a thing you need to see if you are making dubstep-ish music (as dubstep is a so heavily kick-driven genre). Though I don't personally like this type of music, the part which goes from 1:53 to 2:20 is pretty sick. Maybe a few cymbals could make the whole percussion part a little more interesting.

For 2 and a half weeks this is pretty damn good man. You have a good grasp of what notes go together and the synth you have sounds like something DJ shadow would use (at the beginning). Maybe try and take more time on your projects and introduce more variation in the themes. I don't really know what else to say. Just keep on doing what you're doing. Time is the best trainer really.
I think the thing that led me to improve the most was realizing that my tracks would be better if I spent time actually mixing them instead of just cobbling shit together and putting really vague harsh EQ on it, spend time listening to other people and thinking
Anyway on that note here is a track I made
It started off as a 90s aphex-twin style IDM song but I can't help my roots - if you're sleepy have a listen to this and you will probably yawn yourself all the way to the bank

A really nice chilled out song dude I like it. I'm not really a fan of the ride or crash, but the other percussion fitted the song, I really liked the kinda glitchy stuff it did. Although it took a while to get into full swing, it's a relaxing song to listen to.
I won't be posting any of my music for a week or so, but It'd be a good idea for me to get into the habit of reviewing other people's stuff

Hey Gez, welcome back to the subforums! Yeah a lot has changed indeed, for the better I would say since this thread thrives on people giving their feedback and just simple thoughts on other people's music. Like your piece for example, if you can't be bothered to listen through any song here, then why would others have the time? The thing is, it doesn't matter if the music posted here is dubstep, house, rock, jazz or even noise rock, the basic principals of music still applies to all of them.
Even the noise rock!
You can always comment on the song structure of something you listen to, does it sound good? Does it sound like it makes sense? Does the contrast between the intro to the verse stick out in a good way? Maybe the constant tempo changes with new interesting bridges bother you?
All of these things you can find in the music you make or the music you like, the same things that you will hear in songs posted here.
Hell, almost all music has melodies, has instruments that create rhythms and things that create and build tension. Listen to the songs around here and you'll find new and exhilirating and sometimes completely innovative ways to make sounds mesh together to create something unique, something that maybe will make your head bob in rhythm with the track.
I can say without a shadow of a doubt that each and every track posted here in this thread, in the last week, all have something that you can listen to and learn from. Something to enjoy, something to take into your soul and adapt with.
Hell, you can just say "OH man this part is so cool/shitty/bland/inspiring/headonpants-retarded/repetive", all it takes is for you to return the favour you ask of the others ; To step into a new world, a new sound that has never been heard before, something that'll forever change the way you think, even if you don't think it'll do.
So take some time off your life and just listen, and comment on it. You won't regret it. :)
Even just telling someone you like theirvsong is enough. Thevrulecisnt really negotiable though.
A short motivation for why you like/dislike it should be added too, it doesn't have to be any longer than "I like this song because of the melodies", even "good song, nice melody" works and all it takes is just four words and one single listen to the track.
I agree with you wholeheartedly though, it's all about helping eachother out for the simple prize of a few minutes, time you can most likely spare since you're sitting on an internet forum. :)

I would say the main issue I have with this is that it doesn't change very dramatically throughout the duration. Trying to bring in some different sounds to keep your song moving forward. Another thing, I'm not sure how familiar you are with the fundamentals of music so apologies if I'm saying something you already know, but a driving beat will have snare on 2 and 4 and kick on 1 and 3 at the base level, just in case that's what you were attempting to do at any point. The overall sound isn't horrible though, I just think it sounds a bit clumsy with the beat. Try to add some complexity to the drum parts if you're comfortable with it.
http://soundcloud.com/teacarp/a-bird-in-my-hand
I dig the intro, very cool with the shimmers, but I'm not a fan of the kick, sounds a bit shallow to me. I appreciate the work you've put into sewing variation throughout the song, especially with the percussion. Sometimes I'm not really feeling the forwards-backwards lead line, but in generally it's a need effect. I just think it could use some sort of modulation, gain, reverb, or other effect to make it a bit more interesting. When the guitar comes in, I feel like it's also almost there but something's not sitting well with me there either. I might attribute it to the tone, perhaps try something just a bit cleaner and brighter in the high-mid range to give it more...'schwank'. Idk lol. The key/organ part at the end sounds maybe a bit too loud and echoey for my taste. It overwhelms the rest of the sound quite a bit for me.
Anyways, sorry I haven't been stopping by or posting more often. Busy, etc. My shitty house that I'm living in doesn't have grounded outlets, so I can't really record anything without awful feedback in any instrument. It sounds great! I'm not entirely sure how to articulate why it sounds great, but there's something special about the way your song sounds in particular. The way the guitar sounds, to the tune you're playing, it's all very pleasant on the ears. I didn't notice any feedback you mentioned, either, though it could be more noticeable to someone else.

It's very, ah...ambient. I appreciate ambient music as much as anyone else, but I don't really feel like it's a song of its own. As far as I can tell, aside from the beat that stays consistent throughout the duration of the song, it sounds more like you held a microphone out your window and just listened. The sounds you use are nice, though, I just think it would benefit from your own sounds being a bit more pronounced then the background noise.

How's this? Added drum complexity in that comes in a little bit into the song (though I'm not sure if it's good), added a better sense of progression to it...I feel like it's better.
