Play a fucking bass, it is easier to learn off of then buy an electric.
Acoustic.
I started off with an acoustic, but that's only because that's what I wanted to start off with.
It's really your choice.
Neither Electric nor Acoustic are easy, nor are they easier than each other.
Whatever you prefer man
What are you, a fag?
Play electric guitar goddammit
Yes, because only fags play acoustic.
Have you guys heard of Eric Clapton? He's a fag.
Same with Al Di Meola.
And thousands of other great guitarists.

Johnny Cash is such a fag too .
I would get an acoustic first.

Because he was obviously 100 % serious.
:/
I don't really care about playing acoustic though, I just want to learn to play the electric guitar.
Start with electric then. You could always put higher gauge strings on an electric to give your fingers some more resistance (which is supposedly one things that makes acoustic guitar harder). But the truth is one isn't harder than the other. I personally just find acoustics more uncomfortable to play.
I'm sorry but Reaver is wrong, in my opinion.
Starting on acoustic is easier because the strings are spaced farther apart and the frets are larger. He might find acoustic harder because he learned on electric first (stretching out doesn't necessarily feel good), but accuracy is a lot easier with acoustics.

Just like I am.
But honestly I don't know if he was... I mean look at his avatar.
If he was joking then so was I.
If he wasn't then neither was I.
Win/win

No.. just.. no.

I should break yours over your head for that...
I started with acoustic guitar, practiced chords and finger strength, I was really surprised when I swapped to the electric, it was so easy to move my hand around the neck, it's just sweet.
You should probably learn to how type on a keyboard before you play a guitar.
or you know just pick a better instrument.
steel is dumb
Having an opinion about how a guitar player should advance makes me dumb now?
I have a bass, electric and acoustic guitars.
And after a while I realized that if I had started with the acoustic playing the rest of the instruments would have been a hell lot easier.
So if trying to help OP upon experience people actually had with the types of the guitars is what counts as dumb, fine, have it your way, I'm dumb then.
Ok, I bought an electric guitar :woop:
It's a sun sound or something. Had to start with something cheap.
Thanks guys.

why a guitar?
Hope you OP enjoy playing your guitar, grats.
why a guitar?
Next step is to play! How much music do you know? (Like how to read notation?)
bassist reporting in.
get an electric. ive played acoustic before buying an electric and other than the acoustic being wider, its easier to do bends and harmonics on the electric. other than that i cant tell the difference.
Cool. hope you have fun OP. Practise everyday and play some non generic music. to much of it now days.

I'd start with chords and such first, btw. Infact:

Well, I played the recorder when I was younger, so I know how to read sheets of music to a certain extent. I've looked at some tabs and what you're supposed to do kind of makes sense but I don't think I will be playing a "song" anytime soon haha.
But this week I will learn from a teacher, who has taught my cousin well.

Thats not helping.
Also I bet you like Justin Beiber.

How am I writing this if I don't know how to type, dumbass.

He's being a prick because you spelled "Acoustic" wrong in the title.
Congrats on getting your guitar man :)
I hope you enjoy playing.
Starting off on a electric guitar is much easier than acoustic... I teach people often so I would know, they always ask to play the electric due to the acoustic strings hurting.
The reason acoustics are harder to play is because they string them with higher gauge strings, which are tighter than electric strings when tuned to standard tuning (A440).
Also, due to the strings being a lighter guage on electrics, you can lower the action, meaning the strings are closer to the neck, making it easier to fret.
Hope that helps :)
Acoustic is harder, i started on a 40yr old yammy with fucking shite action but it made playing new guitars so easy
What are you, a fag?

Acoustic gets you chicks,
I just had my first class, we did that basic "1,2,3,4 on the frets" thing. My arm hurts like fuck, and my fingers can't stretch far enough. This gets better with practice, right?
Are there any beginner tips you guys can give me?
