Marijuana legalization going to be on Calif. ballot in November 2010

I'm not sure if weed being legalized would be good or bad. Don't get me wrong, I love it. But the sorta niche crowd that populate smoking corners would turn into a clusterfuck of newbies and the feeling of being part of a group of people would be smashed. Still, it's better than criminilising those who use drugs most certainly.
Dan, I think if you compare it with drinking (I know, it's much worse, but it's just to prove a point), it's great when there's a few of you who are all close and can just drink together right? Think of it like that, but with weed instead, simples
Also, It's just clicked in my head how many people actually drink alcohol. Like, hardly anybody you ask will say they don't drink, and this is a drug with worse effects? Damn prohibition :frown:
Only a matter of time before the same happens in Washington
Woah, I live in Washington. Fuck yeah.
If California passes it before Canada gets it, I'm going to be very disappointed in my country.
It was pretty funny, here in Maine, we just legalized medical-MJ, and that passed extremely easily, and nobody tried to overturn it, but the gay-rights vote is still being argued, as it was overturned. Hopefully we re-overturn it, because gay people are cool.
RAINBOW POWER!
Yeah, I was so pissed when the medical bud got passed and not gay rights. Honestly if I had to choose one or the other I'd go with gay rights, but both are good.
Maine kinda sucks anyway, moving out as soon as I can.
didnt u guys have vending machines for joints at one point? :v:

Still do but you need a club card and it goes on your record forever. It's also more expensive. If this passes, we could just grow it without hassle.
Does anyone know what happens if this passes? Like, will tobacco companies like Marlboro start selling joints? If you grow it, are you allowed to sell it, or do you need a license? What are the specifics of this prop?
after this bill passes (i'm pretty sure it will) i'm sure the rest of the country will follow suit.
i was actually thinking about what would happen if it was legalized, and that's what worries me.
first, we'll have all these retards on the street smoking and doing dumb shit.
then, the tobacco companies will switch over to weed and start fucking around with chemicals and shit, possibly reducing the quality too. it'll be difficult to find top quality bud if it becomes commercialized and it's sold at corner stores and shit
this is something i could see happening very easily. hopefully, it ends up like alcohol where there's an age limit and you just buy it at dispensaries and coffee shops or wherever. but not the same open bottle laws and all that shit, if you can't smoke outside it would suck.
also, if it is legalized, is it going to get cheaper because more people can grow, or more expensive because of taxes?
just a few things on my mind.

1: Chances are that they won't start to put in chemicals since marijuana is considerably easier to grow then say tobacco. If they start fucking with it, and people start to get hurt from it then people will simply begin to home-grow.
Companies won't reduce the quality if they begin to mass produce, but more likely make it even better. That's because they will always be trying to one up each other. Not to mention you could always just buy pure marijuana, just like you can purchase pure tobacco.
2: It will become cheaper, since the only reason the prices are so "high" is because they take into account that it needs to be smuggled into areas and it's on the black market. Marijuana isn't that costly to grow, and the yield is way more than it costs to produce so you could be looking at prices of $5 a gram. Of course, If companies start producing insane quality, ultra THC/whatever weed then the price will probably reach the $20's per gram, but eventually it will lower again.

Do they have cops to watch them, because i would imagine them to be fucking theif magnets.
In this day in age we have the shares of people who understand marijuana and those who don't. The ones that don't understand are a bunch of 60 year old people that think marijuana is a hardcore drug, and old people are dying every day and less and less of them exist. We'll be fiiine.
To be honest I don't actually think it'll pass. I think there are more people that think its a "gateway drug" than people that actually know the truth. Plus it might actually get bad rep. Like you guys said, more noobs will try it and do stupid, shit like breaking windows and stuff so more people might go against it strictly because of that.
cus when all drugs are legal the world will explode and all kittens will die oh noooo! fuck you cali our country has to be first
It might pass. we love weed around here.
canada better hurry up
I don't know a single person from my generation who hasn't lit one up. What's gonna happen if they pass this law - old grannies and grandpas will get hooked, lol.
I am in with it with the smoking of the pots. yo. Eating in-and-out while high here in CA will kick ass
Eating in-n-out while high here in CA does kick ass.
they should package games with 2 grams or something, that way when you get bored of it, you can light up a few times and play them for a couple more days/weeks.

So true.
Eating in-n-out while high here in CA does kick ass.
I love In-n-Out so much...I used to live in California. I wish they would bring it to the east coast.
They are going to rape the fuck out of it with taxes.

Kinda like they did with cigarettes and alcohol.
I bet it'll still be cheaper than the street price is.
Yeah I hear ONE cigarette is going for $1.50 on the streets. Pffff
I wish I could buy a pack of blunts for 5.
Tobacco is in huge abundance with tonnnnsss of farms. Cannabis cultivating will probably be much smaller and won't take off because or Conservatards and Restrictions.
A pack of Cigarettes are around $5 right? ( I wouldn't know, don't buy or smoke them)
A pack of Cannabis "Cigs" might be significantly more
It costs more to maintain, and produce tobacco. You need more land and more equipment.
Growing marijuana will be simple, cheap, and effective. You can grow it inside or outside, you can grow it multiple ways. It will be cheaper than cigarettes after things mellow down and settle down.
So? No shit a pack of "Cannabis cigarettes" will be more, because you wouldn't have to smoke them as frequently as cigarettes.
Anyways people will most likely be buying the nug not prerolled stuff.
Here is what I think about drug prohibition (just the health aspect, none of the political background behind cannabis prohibition):
Some drugs are neither bad for you, or dangerous (shrooms)...
Some drugs are bad for you, but not dangerous (cannabis). For example, your lungs suffer from smoking it.
Some drugs are not bad for you, but dangerous (DXM, MDMA). One single use will have minimal repercussions on your body, but there is still the chance something will go wrong, especially if you dose incorrectly or you have adverse reactions to the drug.
Some drugs are bad for you and dangerous (cocaine, heroin). These drugs are straight up bad news.
In conclusion, only drugs that are dangerous should be banned. If it is banned solely because it's bad for you, then fast food might as well be banned.
You're saying DXM isn't dangerous over time but weed is? You're also implying that cannabis should be banned?
