I visualize music, and visualize just about everything.
I can usually tell what a word means from just how it sounds. Also, I picture times as colors rather than times themselves. The present is always perceived as white, however.
yeah anyone can do that if they know latin root words.
Well for me, days of the week are seen by my mind as a 7-spoked wheel ... sort of
it slowly rotates in real time :buddy:
No, but I have weird case of autism. I can't write for shit on paper at all, but for some damn reason I can read an entire 600-page book in under 30 mins and understand and memorize it for a long time to come. I also have 20-15 vision, maybe that has something to do with it.

I've never done drugs ("DERP U FORGOT ASPIRIN AND TYLENOL DUMBASS!") but I am aware that drugs like LSD will have similar effects of synesthesia. The thing is that these drugs will actually produce a quite obvious rendition of synesthesia's effects. Effects from the actual condition are more sub-conscious and you won't actually SEE things in your vision from sounds. It's more like a second sub-conscious vision where you see and hear things.
Psychedelics and various other hallucinogens can cause temporary synaesthesia. I can perceive sound as colour but when I'm on hallucinogens things become more intense and I get a sense of movement and texture to accompany the colour. I know my synaesthesia is much more pronounced since I've done drugs.
I have very powerful memories. It's weird. I can almost immerse myself in times that once were. Like your condition, it's a subconscious thing. I still see everything in front of me, and I'm very much aware of my surroundings, but I can recall certain times of my life that can actually affect my mood.
It seems like it's linked to my moods, actually. When I recall an era of my life, I experience a summary of my feelings about every single smell, taste, emotion, sight, or whatever else I regularly experienced during that time.

I wish there was a "cool" rating.
Isn't there some sort of "paranoia" thing that happens to people when a disorder/disease/condition is mentioned? Like, I remember on an episode of House (Yeah it is a tv show, but a good example of things I've seen in person), they were on an airplane and someone had some disease or virus, something. And then he told everyone on the plane that it is highly contagious and they all have it. He said the symptoms and all of the sudden, they had the symptoms. He later revealed it was all in their head. I don't remember if it was specific to nervousness, or if it can be used on anything.
Everyone visualizes measurements. But not the rest of those things.
I've always thought of days, months and numbers as colours. Years too, to a degree. 2003 is yellow, 2005 is red etc. Is that this? :ohdear:
I used to have a sort of "persona" for each alphanumeric glyph and symbol when I was little. They've worn off though.
If you want temporary synesthesia try acid.
I used to visualize words as abstract images when I was little (I thought the word 'maybe' looked like a Duracell battery).
Duracell: Maybe it'll work.
Could Synesthesia give you intense, incapacitating pain from certain noises?
Because if so, then I have a really bad case of it.
I actually feel really normal right now because half of what you guys are posting, like the number form thing means complete fuck all and is incredibly confusing to me.
[editline]18th December 2010[/editline]
oh, but sometimes i do link smells to things, like the smell of gasoline to lawnmowers, because they use gasoline and such
The only thing that may resemble this that happens to me is when I know how something works such as an internal combustion engine,I tend to visualize it inside the object when i can see it.
Ex:Car comes,I visualize pistons turning,transmission shifting,gas

It's normal to wince when someone drags their nails across a chalkboard.
It's normal to wince when someone drags their nails across a chalkboard.
It's not the sound of nails on a chalkboard, it's the sound of ripping paper. I'm literally shortly paralyzed in pain from ripping paper. And I'm known by some for having an abnormally high pain tolerance. (When it comes to normal things).
Aphex Twin has this condition. It's his inspiration for most of his work I hear. Also if you do a fuckton of psychoactive drugs, there is a tiny chance you could be left with this condition. Or you could develop PTSD, or y'know, die. So yeah, weigh the risks.

Same idea. I don't like hearing pieces of paper rubbed together, it gives me the willies
This is getting ridiculous.
This is getting ridiculous.
I agree.
I always associated years with different colors, but I think that was from Bionicle or something.
Though statistics concerning synesthesia are vague and ambiguous, I'm going to assume you don't really have it unless you provide documentation saying you do.
Lots of people on the internet want to feel unique, and this is a unique condition.
Meet your burden of proof.

If you're born in 1996 as your name would imply, you likely have an active imagination and a whole truckload of hormone imbalances right now.
You don't have synesthesia.
I can translate any sound to a color and any combination of sounds into what ever the colors blend as.
Had this for awhile. Pretty sure most of the translations are in agreement with anyone else who has this condition.
Not that uncommon, a lot of guitarists refer to their tone in color form.
The integrity of the corpus colossum apparently determines to what degree your senses intermingle, so, though not noticeable, everyone has this to some degree.
Does that make you guys feel better? You're all special, just not really.

Really? I find guitarists (including myself) describe tones with words like, warm, cold (harsh could be another way), bite, brightness, muddy, but not so much colours.
I think I have the music/sound one. I always thought everyone else did.. Thank you OP!

Hahahahaha
I don't have it, no.
Draw the things that you hear. no seriously , do it. It'd be interesting to see what it looks like

That was the result of entire songs being played while I drew. Clearly, lots of detail, this was after a few weeks of music+drawing sessions.
I'll try to get a visualization of basic sounds that spark my visualizations the most done soon.
