• The Photographic Tricks That Make McDonald’s Burgers Look Good
So they just admitted you can't really buy what's being advertised and what IS advertised - some respects - doesn't really exist? How is this not false advertising?
False advertising is a blury line, this isn't, whereas them saying "THIS BURGER WILL MAKE YOU LIVE FOREVER" very clearly is. This is just a minor exaggeration. Not to mention, people don't buy burgers because they look good, they buy them because they like the taste. It's not like we're talking about them selling a piece of art here.
Did you watch the video at all? It's just a normal burger. They don't add anything to it.
Yes and a soup is just a normal soup when you just throw the ingredients(herbs, salt, vegetables and a cow) into one big pot instead of cooking it properly?
I wish they gave the burgers in the store this much attention... And that goes for all fast food places. Personally I boycott McDonalds.
Now i'm hungry.
Personally I boycott McDonalds.
Why?
I wish they gave the burgers in the store this much attention... And that goes for all fast food places. Personally I boycott McDonalds.
It's called fast food for a reason. If you want them to give your burger this much attention, don't expect to pay 5 bucks for it.
Because they're still using the same ingredients? They never made promises they'd be cosmetically the same as they are in the ads.
You are not only buying ingredients when you buy a burger.
Did you watch the video at all? It's just a normal burger. They don't add anything to it.
It's cooked to look good, not taste good.
You are not only buying ingredients when you buy a burger.
At a fast food joint yes you are.
You are not only buying ingredients when you buy a burger.
you're right, you're buying food and not a work of art it's $5 for a meal what did you expect
It's cooked to look good, not taste good.
I misunderstood you, apologies.
Advertisement is based on exaggeration and even outright lies, this is nothing new, this is something that will never change. If this wasn't true, the OxyClean commercials would have been Billy Mays going "Lol shit doesn't work bro."
Last time I checked, advertisements are suppose to make you want to buy the product. They're not going to show you how shit their product is, they're just going to highlight all the good parts about it (ITC: tasty, some ingredients, cheap price, how good it looks, so on).
I live a few blocks away from the McDonalds in this video
you're right, you're buying food and not a work of art it's $5 for a meal what did you expect
I don't expect anything more or öess from the food. But I expect the adds to be at least SOMEHOW related to what I get.
I don't expect anything more or öess from the food. But I expect the adds to be at least SOMEHOW related to what I get.
and the ads show a burger. you get a burger. I don't see what the problem is
Last time I checked, advertisements are suppose to make you want to buy the product. They're not going to show you how shit their product is, they're just going to highlight all the good parts about it (ITC: tasty, some ingredients, cheap price, how good it looks, so on).
Exactly, that's what I'm saying, they slightly exaggerate the importance of the good points, and then don't tell you the bad points. Not saying that's really a bad thing, it's just a fact of life, and common sense.
Last time I checked, advertisements are suppose to make you want to buy the product. They're not going to show you how shit their product is, they're just going to highlight all the good parts about it (ITC: tasty, some ingredients, cheap price, how good it looks, so on).
They are NOT showing their product. They are showing some artificial production that only shares the ressources with the original. Ingredients are only 50%, the other half is processing and service.
They are NOT showing their product. They are showing some artificial production that only shares the ressources with the original. Ingredients are only 50%, the other half is processing and service.
False advertisement takes into account the audience, people who are eating at a fast food restaurant clearly don't care about presentation, they just want food. Presentation is for actual restaurants, and that's why it costs more. You could call it false advertisement if an actual restaurant was saying that, but not a fast food restaurant.
They are NOT showing their product. They are showing some artificial production that only shares the ressources with the original. Ingredients are only 50%, the other half is processing and service.
So you wouldn't dress up your product for a photoshoot? This is advertising 101, dude.
They are NOT showing their product. They are showing some artificial production that only shares the ressources with the original. Ingredients are only 50%, the other half is processing and service.
They are showing the product, only the one they're showing is of higher quality than the one you buy.
They are showing the product, only the one they're showing is of higher quality than the one you buy.
Exactly, if they were showing you a burger with ingredients you flat out couldn't have, that's false advertising, not this.

holy shit, I lost it when the chef said "I don't even know what this guy does"
I think it's pretty fair, I mean they must make the sign easy to read "Oh its got this" and good looking. I admit, they don't have any other way, but they don't do the shit other people do (slab ingrediants on, nails the pizza to the table, make it look impossibly perfect). They do have smaller patties than pictured I've seen but, whatever, close enough. I also admit shamelessly I absolutely love McDonalds, but, I don't eat it often at all. There's satisfaction in eating it, but doubt and self-hate afterwards. :v:
I wish they gave the burgers in the store this much attention... And that goes for all fast food places. Personally I boycott McDonalds.
They gave attention to making it look good, not making taste good. :v: Personally I'd rather the latter, it could look like ass for all i care.
It looks close enough to me unlike any pizza I have ever bought which is always 1000 times better looking in the picture.
They are NOT showing their product. They are showing some artificial production that only shares the ressources with the original. Ingredients are only 50%, the other half is processing and service.
Did you watch the video? They use the same ingredients. What they're showing your in the ad is what you get in the burger, it's just not perfect. I seriously don't understand how you expect to get a perfect burger every time. It's fast food, it's meant to be made in five minutes tops, they're not going to sit there and perfect how your burger looks. You're just going to eat it anyway. [editline]21st June 2012[/editline]
Exactly, if they were showing you a burger with ingredients you flat out couldn't have, that's false advertising, not this.
I seriously don't get where you stand on this. Are you for or against it?
I seriously don't get where you stand on this. Are you for or against it?
For it.
There are two things though that they didn't show. First is they cut a small slice out of the burger's back so they can pull apart the burger thus making it look bigger, the second is they spray it with a (highly toxic) liquid which makes the whole thing more glossy.
Does the food stylist get to eat the burger after the photoshoot?
Considering the burger is sitting there for like 7 hours. I'd bet not. [editline]21st June 2012[/editline]
"because we're in a one dimensional world in the camera" And that is why he is a food stylist.
I did a half facepalm when I heard that. [editline]21st June 2012[/editline]
I wish they gave the burgers in the store this much attention... And that goes for all fast food places. Personally I boycott McDonalds.
If they did you'd complain the burger is lopsided. They explain that it's completely off center to show off the ingredients.
