What exactly is Project Scorpio? Is it just the new Xbox? I don't get it.
I encourage watchers to stick through the whole video, I'm left quite impressed. Forza at native 4k/60 is certainly not something I expected. HEVC encoding on the GPU is also quite nice.
What exactly is Project Scorpio? Is it just the new Xbox? :snip: ninja'd
If Rich says it's hardcore, you pay attention.
damn can't wait to play persona 5 on this thing
Jaguar cores again.... The GPU seems nice though.
To sum it up in one image. [t]http://i.imgur.com/JVElifZ.png[/t]
So how much would a PC with similar specs cost? Just to get an idea of the price of the final console. (Though who knows if Microsoft is gonna take a loss on each console like the PS3)
Jaguar cores again.... The GPU seems nice though.
RIP the 60 fps dream.
RIP the 60 fps dream.
Forza was running 4k 60fps

It's not just a hardware upgrade you need to consider. DirectX 12 was also tweaked and optimized specifically for it to use less CPU and GPU cycles, so the games run better than they really should on that hardware.
Forza was running 4k 60fps
Also mentioned drops to 50, 60 doesn't mean much if it isn't stable.
Forza was running 4k 60fps
Forza already ran at 60fps on Xbox One. One of the primary bottlenecks this gen has been CPU, you'll most likely get 4k30fps in other games.
Also mentioned drops to 50, 60 doesn't mean much if it isn't stable.
Just shows people pay no attention. The game used 60% of the GPU and it varied between 50-70%. He was not talking about the framerate dropping to 50, but GPU utilization, which means Scorpio has power to spare and can handle the game with ease.

No matter how much optimization they do I highly doubt they'll manage to get 4K@60FPS in more demanding titles out of it My guess is that the Scorpio will cost 500-600USD

Since it isn't an upgrade to Ryzen or Vega I am honestly expecting a price around 400$.

Add to that the fact that the regular Xbone is sold at a loss, I'm not so sure Microsoft are willing to do that with the Scorpio as it's their premium option

It's going to be a resolution and graphics bump for most games, not framerate.
Really want to see what the final case for it will look like, can't wait till E3. Been keeping an eye on this since it was announced last year and see if I can replace my Xbox One with Scorpio

Especially with having a separate processor for dispatching commands to the GPU it takes a lot of unnecessary load off the CPU. Color me interested.
Gotta say, I'm really impressed with what they've done to optimise the hardware. Especially when they showed how well they managed to get Forza running on it. Still, I'll wait and see for more games to be ported. Also, I can't imagine this having a cheap price.
Definitely impressive, especially with the GPU portion of the SoC essentially being just short of an RX 480. I doubt this will stop devs from just upscaling lower resolutions, or utilizing TAA/checker-boarding though. Why put in the extra effort to optimize and make true 4K games when you can just take 1800p, add some TAA, and get something that looks close enough but with much better performance? Best part is, most consumers won't be able to tell the difference. Only people who take the time to analyze it (like Digital Foundry) will notice it. At the very least, the console should have no issue with making 30 FPS capped games run at a stable 60 FPS (vs the PS4 Pro struggling there), assuming devs are willing to make patches for Scorpio.

The RX 480 does 5.8 TFLOPS, this one does 6. Sure, you can overclock the RX 480, but I'd rather put these as basically being equal.
Great, now all it needs are some games.
