It's hard to say. The first Imax showings are on a Wednesday. Hardcore fans will go then but the rest will just wait for the weekend. I don't really see much of a problem but it wouldn't hurt to get the tickets now if you're doing the imax early showings at least.
New Video: The Science of Interstellar 'How director, Christopher Nolan, and physicist, Kip Thorne, combined CG effects and scientific reality to create the most accurate visualization of a black hole in film history.' Pretty interesting
Gonna see it in IMAX in Phoenix on the 4th! Suuuper excited cause this will be my first IMAX movie.
After his last movie I hope for some witty dialog.
2 weeks to go. Also, an interview with Chris and the stars. Probably spoilery: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/interstellars-christopher-nolan-stars-gather-742727

Heres the list again if anyone needs it http://www.imax.com/community/blog/advance-tickets-for-interstellar-on-sale-now/ Though it seems to be not complete. That or movie tickets.com is lying as it lists two Massachusetts theaters. http://www.movietickets.com/movie/mid/159557/n/Interstellar/SearchZip/02111/ShowDate/14/SearchRadius/40/tstate/0 Which according to this other list are digital http://lfexaminer.com/theaUSA.htm#MA
There's also the list on the official website itself http://interstellarmovie.com/ After the site loads, click ways to see interstellar in the top left. It gives you a variety of options for how to watch it, then tells you where you can find those theaters. [editline]22nd October 2014[/editline]
Heres the list again if anyone needs it http://www.imax.com/community/blog/advance-tickets-for-interstellar-on-sale-now/ Though it seems to be not complete. They'll probably switch back to digital afterwards but it's still pretty cool. You can always just call the theater and ask.
Ah I found the major reason why they're pushing this so hard. Though the pictures in that post are misleading. Being digital doesn't mean the picture will be cut off, that has to do with screens size.
oh god damnit the only theater in my area that offers 70mm film screenings is one of those theater/restaurant things that has terrible reviews. [editline]23rd October 2014[/editline] how do Sony 4K digital projectors compare to 70mm imax?
Will all showings at those theaters be 70mm? Even after like a week or so?
oh god damnit the only theater in my area that offers 70mm film screenings is one of those theater/restaurant things that has terrible reviews. [editline]23rd October 2014[/editline] how do Sony 4K digital projectors compare to 70mm imax?
pretty sure full size imax has a very unique aspect ratio. I'm not sure what the sony projector uses [editline]23rd October 2014[/editline] basically unless its the one on the left all the shots filmed with the imax camera will be cut off. trust me it sucks. I saw TDKR in imax and then in a regular theater. I was dying in the regular theater knowing how much was cut off.
No more Imax near me it seems. There was an Imax in Brisbane but it shut down a decade ago. Apparently they have a 25m screen to watch it on there, but I think it's just regular 35mm or something. There IS something called 'Vmax' at another cinema company's joint not far away, but they seriously give NO information as to what the hell 'Vmax' even is. Just says "Bigger screen, bigger seats, bigger sound" and that is IT. Ugh. Looks like a regular cinema viewing will be it for me :(
I absolutely hate nonstop IMAX teasing with all the movies, there is not a single IMAX that shows movies in Finland.
Aww ye got tickets to see this in IMAX in Toronto on November 4th.
Embargo has predictably broken a day early as certain websites just can't resist the chance to get a lot of traffic: http://letterboxd.com/thebatdude/film/interstellar/ 5/5 http://letterboxd.com/willml/film/interstellar/ 4/5 I've never heard of these websites so i wouldn't really give them much credibility, but whatever I'm posting them anyways. The rest will be dropping tomorrow but this early leak might convince others to ignore the embargo as well, who knows lol. It's been hard to sort the fake twitter reactions from the real ones, but there's surely gonna be a few 'hated it' reviews in there. The few negative twitter reactions I saw were bitching about [sp] the amount of time dedicated to showing how much the main character misses his family[/sp], which seems silly but we'll see. Nolan films are anything but perfect after all lol. There seems to be a lot of praise for the ending though, which is certainly good. We'll find out tomorrow what the consensus is from all these early screenings, but regardless you shouldn't care too much about other people's reviews, it's better to just go in with no expectations beyond simply being entertained. Though I'm certainly not gonna bother with a big ass roadtrip to the nearest IMAX if the film just gets so-so reviews lol. For the hell of it I'm going to predict a final RT percent of 85.
For the hell of it I'm going to predict a final RT percent of 85.
I'd say after release it'll be around 9.0 in IMDb notation, just like Inception, but with time the score will decrease to somewhere around 8.6, or maybe 8.4. But I have no doubts that this might be the 2001 of our era.

I predict this'll be Inception-tier, he'll never do better than Memento or The Prestige in my opinion. TDKR was a fucking mess though, I hope this is better.
But I have no doubts that this might be the 2001 of our era.
hahahahahahahahano

I think he as joking. Pretty sure that's something Nolan / a magazine preview has said or something
Well I can see the comparison in which they'd make about the two, but, 2001 is what I think a very mind warping kind of movie. Where as, I'm thinking that Interstellar will be more streamlined and dimensional toward the audience. Not to say that there won't be any symbolism in it, but I'm judging on the two different directors of each movie. Hard to decipher without actually seeing Interstellar.
I think he as joking. Pretty sure that's something Nolan / a magazine preview has said or something
it's something that started up on the internet after the dark knight came out.

Like it or not, so far his magnum opus is Inception and because he's not a shitty director (just not in the same shelf as Kubrick or Scorsese, yet) I don't think that was his last word. Have some faith, folks.
I get to see an advanced screening of this movie on Saturday. I am very, very excited. I really love space movies. I will let everyone know how it is.
It's certainly been getting a somewhat mixed response thus far. Could be Nolan's worst reviewed film yet, not that that means much since all of his films except for The Prestige got extremely good RT scores, and prestige was still fucking awesome. Expect more reviews from other major American outlets next week. In all honesty in this case mixed reviews make me eager to watch this film even more. Because Nolan always played safe, and Interstellar from the very beginning looked like something else. [editline]28th October 2014[/editline] Funny thing, Nolanfans have already begun a counter-crusade in the rating this film on IMDb - currently 9.6 with 2200 users rating it around 10. I remember the last time when The Dark Knight was actually the first in Top 250 and fanboys were downvoting Godfather and other classics just to keep it that way.
Remember that a lot of great movies get mixed reviews on release. (Including 2001: A Space Odyssey) So just go watch it and make your own opinion, it's probably going to be a good science-fiction at worst.
